So we get FPS Creator, a bunch of tutorials which are already on the FPSC website, and your worst quality model packs (excluding model pack 3 and 1).

Sorry, but this doesnt seem like a fantastic deal when you look at it in that perspective. Yes, it is extremely cheap. But there are a lot of free things that I wouldnt bother getting.

Or you can look at it this way...

You get FPS Creator and model packs 1, 3, and 7 for $29.99.
I think I paid $100.00 for all that.

GREAT DEAL!!!

I agree about the rest of the model packs though.

It is a great offer in my opinion - even if some of the model packs aren't that great. I also paid around 100$ for this.

You're still getting the full version of FPS Creator which normally costs $50 for $30. Plus, you're getting model pack 1 and 3, both of which are very good in my opinion and normally cost $20 each.

TGC is here to make money, not give you free stuff, so it makes sense that they wouldn't throw on more of the the more popular model packs.

...at least they're consistant.

This is a good marketing ploy to draw new customers, but really does little for existing customers, who have already funded TGC well.

If the general public is going to be offered such a deep savings, TGC could at least throw a few store points our way, to make us feel like we still matter...

I think it's a good offer myself. I don't know ANY company that doesn't use the same marketing strategy, from time to time.

...as already stated, I agree, KeithC.

It's a good deal for potential new customers, and a great deal for TGC.

As is, it doesn't provide any real consideration for anyone who has already spent
~$50.00 for FPSC, and also spent countless dollars on extras, at this point, however...

You're practically giving away those model packs so are your existing customers who've already bought it for the full price going to get anything?

It's fine trying to get new customers but you've got to keep your current customers happy as well

I might be running a conspiracy theory here but since TGC is emptying its stocks of classic FPSC DVDs then maybe the mythical migration version is closer than we are told? No need for the old version when that one is released, right... Or something else might be up. I still think we are a long way from seeing the migration but hey, I really don't know

Very cool. Ive spent so much money at TGC, but it was all worth every penny I spent. (Except for blueGUI, screw that).
If you ask me, which you didnt, then Id say that TGC doesnt have to give out anything to existing customers, just because theyre putting a sale out for new customers. That would be like, if you had a pack of gum, and Joe Shmo sitting next to you asked for a piece, you could charge him 5 cents. But than as soon as everyone realizes you have gum, they freaking SWARM you, and you cant help but give the gum away. Joe Shmo will never get that nickel back.

I'll check how much money I have, and maybe buy this. I'll sell the tut DVD, start a clean install of FPSC, and dunno what I'll do with MP1, 3 and 7. I'll probably be stupid enough to buy those other MP's after a time, so it'll save me money.

Unfortunately I bought the FPS + several of the bonanza MPs within the last month.....

PS: and yes, these are not the best packs - p.e. I havent used ANYTHING from Pack 12 so far, but from several free segment packs instead

I bought FPSC around 2006, and they shipped to NZ for about 8 bucks (NZD, iti'll be less in AUS) so its really not that much, totally worth it.

I think this is an excellent deal.

I disagree. Money keeps TGC alive, supporting their products and upgrades. This is a marketing stratergy to get more new users into FPSC, so that TGC can make a bit more money when those users decide to buy more model packs or store points.

FPSC has been out for years now. This is the same situation as buying a great game or movie when it is just released, and then finding it discounted a few years down the line. You can't then walk into the entertainment store asking for some freebies because you paid a bit more to get the item earlier.

Don't be so narky that you missed some savings, you still got a good, easy to use engine for cheap, and lots of professional quality media for a bargain. Be thankful that you paid that little bit more to support TGC for all the hard work they do.

True, and I wouldn't care if it was just discounted. I would care if it was discounted by a good amount and came with 9 other games/movies.

I'm assuming they have a special contract with the artists that made the model packs. Those artists also need money to continue doing their work, and while they might not object to having their media included in a limited time software bundle, I'm sure they'd object to having their media freely distributed.

If you gave out the model packs free, surely you'd get a bunch of users who paid full price feeling hard done by, which leads you right back to square one.

...not narky about savings at all. In fact, the model packs, as it's already been pointed out, are at the more remedial end of the spectrum.

I just think that TGC is more interested in making new sales, than in showing the same respect and appreciation for those folks who've already filled their coffers.

Those of us (such as myself) who were around from the very beginning (February, 2005), and plopped down $50.00 for FPSC EA, know full well that it took a very long time (with lots of demanding by the community) to get FPSC to where it is today.

I have nothing but praise for where FPSC is today, and where we've been told it's heading. I don't question the amount of hard work that's been investing in this undertaking.

Left to their own devices, it is doubtful that TGC would have made real effort to evolve FPSC to v1.1.5 or toward the migration.

Go back through the older posts in this forum, and you'll find that support and customer service have always been a weak focus of TGC...

I agree with Seth.

@Paul112: They are practically giving the model packs away for free in this deal, so there should be no problem with them being given to existing customers as well.

I really don't see a problem here. As I said before, give me the name of a company who hasn't used this type of sales tactic before? I've already heard numerous complaints about some of the model packs listed (though many of them are quite nice). There are sales all the time around the world that give people discounts on items...without making concessions to people who have paid full price. That's just the way that business works.

I think they show real respect for the community here, by offering (very) low-cost/quality media for your game development endeavors. Many (if not all) of the model packs TGC sells, would cost you MUCH more, in many other areas of the net (Torque, for example). TGC is also making the move to allow use of this media in other engines (judging from the Store's comment about future development for other engines).

I'm really shaking my head as to what the fuss is all about here. Imagine how people who paid full-price for TrueSpace 7.5 felt, when it became free for all (we're talking about several hundred dollars there)...

Couple all this with numerous artists/scripters who give away many pieces of media....for free; often with little or no thanks from the community.

Quote: "Left to their own devices, it is doubtful that TGC would have made real effort to evolve FPSC to v1.1.5 or toward the migration."

That is pure speculation on your part Seth.

You're giving them away for free, you've discounted the FPSC app way low and unless you're telling me that you've discounted each model pack to $0.01 then you're giving them away for free.

And if you are discounting them to that then why don't your existing customers at least get a discount?

The general trend of this thread seems to be summed up by:

Quote: "I'm annoyed, they should give something to their existing customers as well."

When Coke is offered as buy one get one free at the supermarket, last weeks customers don't get the same deal.

When a car drops in price by £1000, last years customers don't get a refund or go back for free alloys

This is how products are sold. One thing you can be sure of, is that TGC always make sure they can continue to support everyone with a continuous rollout of upgrades and fixes. Take a look at where FPSC was when it first launched, and where it is now. Everyone is getting freebies all the time.

The TGC forums give you the chance to air your views and unless they are full of expletives or libelous, they remain here for people to read. But the mods would appreciate it if you could let it lie now, otherwise people will be put on moderation to make our lives easier. Threads like this take too much time to monitor, restricting individuals becomes the only option.

I'm not arguing, I'm just having a discussion and even if they have to make a purchase it's still at a discount.

If your existing customers want to buy those model packs then we have to pay full price whereas new customers get them for a really low discounted price.

Your existing customers should get that discount or at least a bit off those model packs.

Quote: "people will be put on moderation to make our lives easier."

I can 100% guarantee you that the phone and tv companies don't give away their packages for $30 when they should be $200+.

Actually; the Satellite company right now is giving a discount for 6 months, of service that's normally over $80....for $10/month. You don't think that doesn't irk me a bit? It's the way things are. And I like TGC way more than the cable company.
