just a small update, changed the IOR on the water, looks much better particularly on the falling streams, fixed the texture stretching, and upped the emissive values on the flames.

Also began detailing the eyes and mouth of the male statue it's still kind of blocky and plain so not totally happy with it, but it's coming along. I'm going to add either a fern or low palm in the middle distance just behind the fountain on the right so that the eye is drawn from sun to statuary to greenery across the scene.

The Crazy@

Yeah, I hand painted the texture for the gargoyle and the backdrop as well.

Thanks

Ortu, way cool scene, but I do have some crits on the water that sort of stick out for me. I think there should be more noise in the streams coming from the middle. For example I imaging irregular droplets falling out not as far as the main stream. Also, for the water coming out of the vase, it starts out thick, and kind of ends up really thin. I think it should be the other way around. Gravity will pull water down and spread it out. Grr it's hard to explain what I'm saying I hope you understand. Otherwise I could draw a diagram if it's confusing.

Your lighting is the bomb I love the colors.

"but i think the water is far to flat" mmm.. is very simply fix that, only add turbulence in this surface..

Thanks for the crits guys they really help push me to do things the right way and not just the easy way ha!

The water currently does have a normal map applied, which shows pretty well in the larger rendering but gets lost in this size. I'll try to rough it up a bit and I've been playing around with some concentric rippling where the streams splash down but haven't gotten results that I've been happy with yet.

As far as the streams coming down go, I know what you're saying... I'd originally intended to set up particles for misting and run fluid simulation for the water but took the quick easy way and just modeled it as I wasn't sure how much time I could put into this.

I didn't want endless tweaking of something like that to prevent me from finishing the entry this time. I'll see what I can do, but if I can't fit it in for the compo, I think I'll continue work on it afterward because I'd really like to get this scene looking top notch one way or another.

Yeah, it is a stone competition haha. You mention mist, I think that'd be awesome to see. Or like steam because the water is hot for some reason haha.

Ok, I think this is going to be done, unless anyone sees any major errors. I roughed up both the streams and the pools, added individual droplets falling with the streams, and added the small palms.

edit: hmm just noticed that some of the flames aren't emitting properly. I'll change them to match the brighter ones again and re-render the scene tomorrow.

Well, I still think that there should be some splah where the streams hit the water. But other than that the flames look awesome ad the overall scene is very good.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to have any more time to work on this before it ends so this will be my final entry.

I added some splashing (could use some refinement) and ripples, tweaked the palms and the pool surface a little.

Being the final, I rendered this one full size so rather than stretching out the board, here's the link:

Thanks, It's been a good compo with a lot of good showing from everyone. Looking forward to seeing how this all finishes up.

I liked the stone texture on Mooney's heads a lot.

Yah, unfortunately my plasma screen blew out on me this week..well, more like melted and turned black. My video card only has a hdmi output too, so I can't hook up an old crt I have laying around...so I'm fracked till I buy a new screen.

So I'll have to go with this as my final entry. I was building a scene, but never got a chance to finish the textures and render the scene.

Final Entry:

Good luck to everyone!

Josh, i managed to get an extension that converts newer connections to fit old CRT monitors, but why is it only HDMI that you have?

It's a Radeon 5800 HD card..and for some reason only has a HDMI output. I have an on-board card, but that would require me to give up my uber-leet graphics...

Well I redid it and it came out a little better. But I still am not to happy with the larger stones all over. But due to time I'll start to texture it. Heck I'll try and make it for FPSC.

All right, I grabbed all the entries, and will set up the judging thread in the mods lounge, the results should be in the newsletter, good luck to all the entrants. This is gonna be a tough one to judge.

Note: I have stated several times 640x480 is more than big enough to render your entries. If you want to showcase 'details' make separate renders of the 'details'. There is nothing wrong with posting multiple renderings. Like the 'beauty shot' and then some different angles. This would help in deciding 'best models'. Especially if you don't want to upload the model for us to examine.

Cheers!

Sorry I didn't jump into this one. I started, but I got sidetracked. Everyone's entries are great and I loved watching the progress of each one grow into its final version. Good luck to everyone!

the 640x480 size is more of a 'courtesy' than a rule. oversized pics are a pet peeve of mine. If you want to post an oversized pic, just make it a URL 'link' instead of using the [ img] [ /img] tags.

Cheers!

Hmm..640x48? How many sticky notes do you have on your monitor that only allow you to view images of that size? j/k Or maybe that's just me, I think at last count I had about 30+...should really get a dry erase board or something.

Good luck everyone, a lot of great entry's.

Wow, there is some really good working going on in here. Good job everyone!

I thought I would stop buy and drop off a link I remember reading a while ago. It's the making of the Wolf's Lair, one of Hitler's Headquarters. This guy modeled the front of it, and it's really well done.

The gif on page two might be interesting to some. The final result is picture perfect.
