July 3d Compo..

"The 'Prop' Room"

Rules:

1) Make anything that could be considered a 'Prop'
2) Use the banner image as a reference for size. If it can't fit in a room this size then it's not a 'Prop'
3) 640x480 final rendering size. (a Beauty Shot and multiple angle views are encouraged)
4) A model must be uploaded with your final entry.
5) Have Fun!

Contest ends July 24th **Extended to August 24th***

Cheers!

***Important Notice:...

Contest Deadline has been extended to August 24th. Main reason, we would like the prop room to have more stuff inside. It's kind of sparse at the moment, see for yourself..

We encourage people to make more than one object, and entering more objects will earn bonus points when it comes to judging.

Now get back to building props, there's plenty of room in here for much more props.

Cheers!

Im thinking its as many as you want but you need to be careful as you can overcrowd the area leading to it looking terrible in the composition. Im pretty sure this is a ploy to get us into fpsc state of mind, so go for what you see fit?

Built up quite a concept doodle sheet. Ill upload it after ive chosen a few to take further.

When I came up with this idea I was browsing the web and saw a movie prop room.. chalk full of props, big ones little ones. a tight squeeze through the rows, and the stuff was eclectic to say the least.

The idea is to have you all make props, not necessarily for FPSC, but it wouldn't hurt. I need you to also upload the model so I can import it into Bryce and make a compo render with all the props in the scene. Another idea I had was that in the compilation scene, I would highlight the compo winners(in the scene) to make a special render for the newsletter.

So make them props!!

Cheers!

P.S. you can make more than one, but only one can be selected as your 'final Entry'. Understand?.. good, carry on.

Edit: P.P.S. the prop needs to be able to exit the room from the window or door, if it's too big to fit through either then it's a 'set decoration' and belongs in a warehouse, not this prop room. With that in mind let's say the door is 36" wide and 6'6" tall, and the window is 48" by 64". does that sound fair? The room is 10'x10' and 8' high.

sounds good david, im not sure how i would make it fit those sizes as i dont think blender has a measuring system, if it does then could someone let me know where it is and how to use it, anyway heres my current wip, this is a flat colour render so what you're seeing is the texture mapped onto the model without any matcap/ shader shading

Helps if i mention what it is >___< Its the preadtor shuriken.

Actually turned up in one of my doodles so i ref'ed it, and now im toying with a few new takes on it.
It just seemed a good idea with the new film being realesed soon.

I'm starting to get into 3D modeling, so I might try out this compo. But I'm wondering about size, since Blender has no unit of measure, how big should we make the props? Should we also make a model of that room for reference?
Oh and I'd like to say congrats on to the winners of the last compo, and a special congrats to Lazerus. While he didn't win, I loved his model, espically the texture.

Ok, although Anim8or is not what most people use, so the scale is not going to match anything you have, if it helps, here it is.. .3ds, .obj and .x in the zip.

Cheers!

Edit: when creating 'props', the scale is not so important, the 'proportions are very important' if the proportions are right I can 'scale' it to fit into the room. you just need to give me an idea of it's size.

Is there a polygon limit? I am making a laptop and it is getting to be very high poly (modeling all the keys, disk drive, battery, etc.

Sweet! I'm going to start doodling some ideas soon. Already planning some kind of futeristic, Sci-fi prop. Might translate a modern day object into some sci fi thing with the same use.

Good luck to everybody!

here is my entry so far:

dunno if i can bother to make an entry thread.. yeahhh i will do one^^ when ive started on the textures. The base model is all done and i will make 2 variations of it so i can choose the better one afterwards. Atm the model looks like a chest or something, but it will be an ammunition box, it will make more sence when textured i hope^^ but thats why iam making 2 versons: one wooden ammo box and one metal ammo box, just to see what turns out better.

standing at 82 polies, and i will release both models to the model database when theyre done^^

heres my progress, decided to go down a totally different route, its a light with a metal skull being used as its source, i intend to bring it into FPSC and also i'm having to render it in poser7 as of all my programs it is the only one that allows me to easily apply transparency so forgive the poor render quality, thats it at max would you believe, however it hopefully will be just a small part of a much bigger prop... assembled in pieces obviously, that way each piece will fit through the door or window

Is there a poly limit for this compo?
Oh and does anyone know how to find poly count in Blender? I can find vertices and faces, but not polys.

I'm probably going to enter something, but whether or not I can get it UV mapped is the kicker...

Dear All,

Good evening to you all. How are you all? Blessed I trust. Blanton Hardy Here! I'm looking forward to this competition. I missed the previous one and I was ticked but I found out about it late and didn't have enough time to come up with a concept with a EndBoss but I decided to enter this one. So I decided to go with a simple Chinese Teacup for this one. Perfect for any office or home environment. Here is my final 640x480 render and different views including a beauty shot which is the third image. But that is my final image and model. Hoping to see some live images from all of you! Hey Mazz426, that projector..BANANAS!! CRAZY!! THAT'S NICE!

Well thank you all for your time and may God bless you powerfully and truly!!

Made some progress on my model (double espresso cofee enema off of Futurama), hope it counts as a prop . It's my first serious model so it probably needs optimising and the wireframe's kinda messy.

BTW, loving the entries so far!

@Josh Mooney: I do believe u arent that good to say that, because alot u make is very low quality, especially on fpsc forums. (Ofcourse u also make pro things, but thats not the questione)
And why do u comment like that? It was totally irrelevant. Serioulsy look out for ur manners, i know henry is a great modeler and texturer.

Wow, i really felt like slapping in ur face. But only mod can do that.

And if it was a joke, i sounded kinda of not.

Post reported.

if you were serious there, thats probably the most unnecessary post report ive ever seen.
if so then i shall report your post for: "

just as necessary.

And Josh is probably one of the best here on the 3d board, i wont comment on your 3d skills considering you are way better than me, but i can also say that you arent to speak.

now that's that, can we leave that behind now and continue with the compo?

Before i have a nervous breakdown.

Its simple, i am protecting henry and ur protecting joshy. I cant argue there, as it is a yes to no. Lets continue with the compo.

@Quick: Imagine he would talk to you like that, would u like it? And he doesnt give any way to improve anyway... I can say add normal map and such too, thats not the point.

I'm like 99.9% sure Josh was teasing.. Like, "Man, it's not even animated! Amateur!!" But if he said that we'd know he was teasing because it's a static object.

i did sort of figure that it was a joke of some sort, but i wasnt sure therefore i let that be, and thats another reason i thought red eye was harsch, and
@ red eye: i was not on anyones side, I dont know where you got that from? I just reacted on the points that you both report josh's post and complain about his art in the same post, which was uncalled for

Lol, I was kidding. If you saw Henry's 3d thread you would see the discussion that seemed to have unfolded. I already commented that the model and texture were great and argued that no matter what Henry did it always brought about a pointless debate on how media should look or be made.

I knew Henry would get it seeing as we already talked about the model.

David Gervais:
Did you mean me or Henry?

Next time I'll turn the 'amateur' into a link to the original post.

Ah and Red Eye, I'm glad you think I'm a terrible modeler. I guess it's time to hand up the jacket.
