Hi,

Today sees the release of Squashies World!

Developed by TGC (baxslash's first commercial app) and published by Focus Multimedia. We also teamed up with Swizzels Matlow a UK company that makes a range of well known sweets. These Squashies sweets taste amazing and are new to the market, so this app is helping promote the launch of the sweets. The sweets also come with a QR code on them that point to the app!

Where can you grab the app;

iOS version

iOS Free Version

Android version

Android Free Version

We think the app is great fun and it's one of the best examples of how a game can be made in AppGameKit Tier1 and then deployed cross platform in just hours.

Mac and Windows versions are currently in submission with Apple and AppUp.

Enjoy! And if you're in the UK try the sweets!

Thanks to those who helped by making some of the levels ( including you Hodgey )

Please tell as meny people as you can to download it (today if possible) or the free version which is also due out although I can't see it yet. Also hit the rate button in the iOS version and rate it (fairly I hope) as the better these new AppGameKit apps do in the charts the more money we have to plough into AppGameKit and FE

Edit: thanks bj! The art is by Peter Jovanovic.

Played the free version, quite the fun game but didn't take to long to beat. I'll be purchasing the paid version soon .

Found a few bugs for you..I believe these bugs are due to AppGameKit itself and not the game.

Testing was done on iPad

When the app is sent to the background the timer doesn't pause. So if you hit the "home" button in the middle of a level, and come back to it a bit later you will have lost from running out of time. This might also mess things up if the app is in the background for long periods of time since "Timer( )" looses its accuracy after 2 hours... Unless you're using "ResetTimer( )".

This next one is a bit hard to replicate. Play your own music from the music app, open the game, double click the home and move all the way to the left so you can "play" the music, once the music is playing minimize the app and reopen it and you'll sometimes get a frozen black screen with nothing but the ad at the bottom.

Thanks for the comments and bugs. The timer bug is fairly minor but I will fix it, I am already using resetTimer but not checking for losing focus

Last time I checked "GetResumed( )" doesn't work on iOS. I use this as a work around.

Simply checks if it has been greater than 50 milliseconds since the "lastTime" has been updated with the current time, if so it assumes the app was sent to the background and resets the timer.

sorry, I have not 27MB free on my low cost Android device, and I can neither move other apps to SD nor download this one to SD.
In my opinion, memory requirements are excessive for small devices, maybe a lighter versions with could enhance the audience.

Thanks hockeykid

Marco, it was a tough choice but I have optimised images for low end devices so the game can run nicely. Without both sets of images it would probably not run properly and get bad reviews... I figure missing a few sales because it is over 20 Mb is probably worth it. Sorry!

Really good looking and well polished app

Two notes on the Android version:
No quit button. I have to wait for Android to close it or use task manager. So it keeps running in the background.

No use of the Android back button! This is the same keycode as Esc. You can use it to bring up a quit game dialog etc on Android.

Thanks baxslash! I think there should be a policy that if someone outside of the UK achieves uber-squashie status, they get sent a packet of squashies. I'm waiting.

1-What's shipping cost like from UK to Oz?
2-Will it get past customs?

Satisfactory answers may mean you get your wish but only because you designed some of the levels

I don't know and I'm guessing that it's not cheap.

Quote: "2-Will it get past customs?"

Assuming they don't eat them, maybe but I'm not sure.

Don't worry about it mate, I hope to make my way to the UK at some point, visit the various regions and accents, might even make my way to Derby; I'll try them then. Making those levels was a treat for me, if there's one thing more fun than playing a game, it's making it.

When in London, visit the Moon Under Water, Leicester Square, near Piccadilly. Good food, good prices, fast service, I think good beer but I do not drink alcoholics.

Wow that is amazing art work, some top notch stuff. I have to pay for that kind of art work baxslash, and you are probably working on your next app right. That looks like a lot of code too. Must of taken you hours to do that. Maybe not hours, but days. I need that artiest in my back pocket. I wonder how much this app is making so impressive makes the rest of us look like we are lazy.

I would say The Old Bell, but I was in Derby last month and saw that it had been boarded up. Granted, prolly not the best pub in Derby, but I used to like it in there.

If you guys are ever gonna meet in Derby, you're always welcome drop me a line if you wanted a few pints, I tend to visit friends up there and they usually let me crash the night.

Also, to note, tried this out on my iPod, good job - looks great, is fun and plays smooth as heck.

The more the merrier!

How's Squashies World going in the market? Are you guys receiving a lot of downloads or is the app still being modest?

Just bought this, kids are loving it, good job.

I can learn some lessons from this on how to present your game, very slick with nice and consistent UI design.

I checked on Google Play:
- free version: 1.000 - 5.000
- paid version: 10 - 50

This confirm what we know, i.e. Android is a very bad market place: people download free version and ignore paid version. Unless the free version contains in-app purchases, but I do not think so, Tier-1 does not support it.

It would be interesting to compare the sales on Apple Store...

Yes, sales have been very slow but the publishers have not pushed the app yet and are planning some sort of campaign for all the apps we are currently working on. We'll have to see if any of them do well from what they have planned before I head down to the dole office
