Hi,

Today we released the latest version of the FPS Creator Game Source Code + all required DLLs to get it compiling.

You will need DarkBASIC Professional Version 6.2 (full version, not the trial)

You will also need the 6.2 Extras archive, which you can download from the same page.

Make absolutely sure you have DirectX 9.0c FEB 2006 edition (or later) installed.

Upgrade DBPro to 6.2. Then unzip the Extras file into your DBPro folder. This will install various new DLLs including a special version of the Expansion Pack specifically for FPSC. Inside the Projects folder you will find the FPSC Game source code.

Be advised that a full compile can take several minutes (especially on older PCs).

Cheers,

Rich

It's not a new version of FPS Creator. It's just the game source code.

LOL... tough luck rich... tough luck.

Let me see, this is updated source that allows the compile with 6.2 instead of forcing a person to use 5.9. Of course DBP fixes IN 6.2 will make this an update in a technical sense.

@Antimatter games

download it at the 6.2 upgrade link, thats how you get it. it's called 6.2 EXTRAS, but unless you own DBPRO you wont be able to use it.

@Eureka Seven

probbably will never happen, unless classic gets a major command overhaul. DBC as it stands couldent do half of what it would need to do for FPSC

No.

Obviously not all. Look inside the contents of the 6.2 Extras zip file, in the Projects folder is the FPS Creator source code. Open it into Notepad to read it (the .dba file).

Yes of course you need DBPro to compile it, that's why it is DBPro *source code*. If you don't have DBPro then its of no practical use to you.

rich... I seriously feel sorry for you. Perhaps you should have put this somewhere else?

Kids, this is SOURCE CODE and it is the same SOURCE as FPSC currently is except with a few MINOR changes that allow it to compile in DBP 6.2 because DBP 5.9 had 1-length strings and DBP 6.2 has 0-Length strings amoung a few other changes. This is not an update. It is a fix to the source.

what is a source code anyway ?

A program is sensed to be a conventional mean to give orders to a computer and not being obscure, weird, and full of traps ,that is closer to magic stuff (Dave Small).

@Glog: Source Code - The written workings of a computer program. Basicly, it tells the program what to do.

@Eureka Seven & rabid rabbit: FPSC's source was written in DBP syntax and compiled with DBP. Therefore it cannot easily be converted to any other language, including C++, without major rewritting of certain parts if not all of it.

@Supah Gamer: Basicly, you can make FPSC do anything DBP can, which is alot. You could put in a particle system, dual wielding, all kinds of stuff. Be warned though that you'll need some expirence with DBP to do this, especially since the code is large and messy (no offense Lee).

I hope this clears some things up

I may be wrong buuut, in the FPSC "extra's" archive #1 "readme.txt" file says ---

Used Under Public License:
1. You CANNOT make 'game creation' or 'level editor' software with this code
2. You CANNOT make a 'game engine' for the purpose of selling it as an engine
3. You CAN make a GAME with this source code for the purpose of selling it

In the second "readme.txt" it says ---

4. Copy this FPSC-Game.exe file into your FPS Creator
installation, typically 'C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\
FPS Creator\FPSC-Game.exe'.

5. Use FPS Creator software as normal, and your own modified
engine will replace the one provided with the original tool.

By my understanding this process overwrites the original FPSC_game.exe with our modified version which again to me says that were no longer able to use FPSC to produce projects as were using a modified version of FPSC to produce projects which is violating the licence agreement.

Is this my misunderstanding of what im reading ? or did i just miss something simple here...

I have a licenced FPSC and would buy DBPro right now if i could modify the source so i could change a few things about how it works, but according to the license agreement i cant do that?.

Not at all. The only thing you cannot use the source for, as the readme explains, is to create another 'game making' application from it. If all you are doing is changing the game source to add in your own enhancements, then go for it - this is exactly the reason we released it in the first place, and it violates nothing.

I want to purchase DarkBasic Professional. The difference between the boxed version and the download is $20.00 U.S. I am not interested one way or the other in any included games.

Besides the box, what is the difference between the two as far as content is concerned.... manuals, etc.

The forum provides a means to hide our true identity. Too bad we always screw up and let it be seen.

The difference? Very little, purely just the free models and quantity of example programs included. There is no printed manual in the boxed version (hasn't been for years).

Conjured, they haven't released the new source yet.

I bought mine from CompUSA (or Circuit City or something) as the boxed version and can't say I got alot of free models anyway (Dark Basic Classic comes with a ton though, even though it is mostly untextured) Though I did get a nice, thick manual, is that just USA or what? Of course, that was two years ago, so you might have discontinued that.

EDIT: Got that wrong, it was about three years ago, and the copyright comes up to 2002.
