I am making a character modelling tutorial that is for med poly models, generally directed at the more upcoming game industry, which will have normal mapping at the end as well as texturing. A step by step tutorial like this is taking time to do, so expect it in steps. The first step is the face, part 1 (in two Parts). It is all around, so don't fret about specific apps, as long as you know how to use yours, in most cases you will be able to follow this tut.

It is in .doc format, it can be opened in Microsoft Word or Open Office.

Before you get started, you may want to look at this guide, its a general guide for my 'All round' 3D tutorials, it contains info and tips in order to follow the tutorial (like alternatives to edge extrude)

Fantastic seppuku.. Although i dont need any char tutos anymore and dint read it to the end.. So was there the cutting rounding? Ill have full knowing now how to make character shape in lowpoly.. Just take two pics make cube (ill start alwasy in leg) then extrude faces and move vertices in images edges.. When you are finished body dont make hands or head just yet.. Use cut thing (its named in 3ds max) and cut legs every side front, left, right and back center of the leg then you see appearing more vertices pull them little out of the character so you get smoothing like leg in low poly this cutting thing saves lot of polys ill use always cut when im going to smooth (or was it rounding?) the char.. Anyways good tuto Seppuku

(what im explaining here is way how i make char shape.. whatever)

Thanks.
That does work that way yes.
But I've found the method I used in that tutorial useful, accurate and quite good, before my heads weren't too accurate to photographic reference images, but this one is, also the same principles can be applied to high poly. Which is why I've decided to acquire this technique.

For those interested in the source of that technique, there is a very good video demonstration of it at Kurv Studios, its a video with no sound where you just watch the model be made.

Under 'Alternate head modelling methods' is two videos, its both of them, the first one, stops at where I've stopped in the tutorial, the second one continues.

this is pretty cool looking, though i usually block out the character and make the body before deciding how much detail the face will have.

this is gonna help alot of ppl if the pics are a the right stages of development, i used to hate makeing heads because they are probly the hardest thing about modeling IMO.

keep at it.
