I have recently begun using Dark Basic proffesional(the trial).
And me and 2 friends from my school are thinking about buying it, but want to try it out first.

On my school we have a licensed 3ds max (ver 3.1 :/ )
but how do you import a .3DS file ??

Darkbasic can load a 3ds file. Just use the "load object" command. 3ds files load much, much slower than .x or .dbo, however they should still work.

The 3DS file format has undergone a lot of changes and as such is no longer supported.
If you want to use your 3DS Max models in DBP then I would recommend downloading the Panda DirectX Exporter and using the settings found in this thread to save your objects as .x files.
You could leave them as .x files but my preference is to load them into DBP as .x files then save them as .dbo files. Then use the .dbo file for all future loads.
