I have been developing open portal: the doom as my next game. I have been working hard on it, and I will not release a demo soon. Instead, I will give you some code that will show how the FPS game will feel. There are no enemies or shooting with this code, just the gun movement and a matrix. I will be showing some screens of the game soon, but here is my progress:

X: Not in yet
N: Needs improvement
Y: Completely done

Okay, so that is about it for what I can think of. I will have a demo some time soon. I will post some screens too of the levels. Use this code for a feel of the game:

EDIT: I have some new things implemented into the game. The demo will be out around November 5th.

Okay, now that you see I have a lot of progress on the game, I will be posting some in the game screens shortly. I need to sort out FPS and collision problems right now though, and some of my animations are off.

I am looking for a team request now. I am going to need talented people who would be able to work in graphics, 3d modeling/animations, cutscenes, and sfx. Here is what I need:

1. Second 3d modeler/animator: I am doing most of the animations and modeling for levels and a few characters, but I am not that great with modeling. I need someone who will be able to do some boss models and animations, also animations for my unanimated models for the game.

2. SFX Engineer: I have tons of good sounds that I have picked up, but I need someone that would be able to do more sound engineering for the different SFX/Voices that I do not have.

3. Interface and Physics Programmer(s): I cannot do all the programming. Right now I am doing modeling, design, programming, web development, and production. I need a secondary programmer that can improve code that I put into games, and add in better interfaces for startup and good physics for in the game.

That is all for now.

Why didn't you put the screens up when you were posting the thread. And if you're going to say you didn't have enough time then I doubt you had the time to make you first post the best it could be, in which case any feedback you receive won't be the best it could be.

You know, all this hating is really begining to get on my man tits, even if its rooted in correctness. I wish people would stop replying to posts they dont like, or if they are going to reply do it nicely and state what was wrong. SoapyFish responded to this thread PERFECTLY. The usual suspects (my eye is directly on you megaton) then came along and basically bumped the thread to the top of the forum 5 times and generally made the usual posts that are a bigger waste of space than the badly written WIP threads we see.

I really do not care if you are tired of bad wip threads being made, you're making it worse and the majority of the "bad threads" are better than your replies. Like me old mamma said, "if you cant say something nice then prepare for a slapping."
I think thats what she said anyway. probably. in other words, please stfu you repeating haters

I posted some early on code from the game to keep people going with it. I will be posting screens once the horrible CShop lightmapping tool ever finishes lighting my huge map. It has been taking quite a while with a crash about three times. I will have them up today in a few hours.

no offense. I was at school till 2:30. the u suck part was courtesy of my neighbor in programming class, who took a short break from learning nested if-thens in vb 6.0 to build on my post.

you should have blamed lightmapping earlier. there would be no flame at all and probly very few trout. My lightmapping record is no less than 10 hours, and then I did "purge light maps", thinking it was temporary while I played w/ the map...............

@sephroth dont look at megaton. he'll get into ur soul...

good luck on your game man

Looking forward to seeing them, for people on slow connections (like me) screenies are the only way we can comment on peoples games because it takes too long downloading demo after demo after demo.

Check out geek chat if you're looking for some positivety, I've just started the perfect thread for you and your two friends (unless you have more than two man tits, I wouldn't know. If you do, could I have a picture, for scientific research type purposes ofcourse.)

Have them up. I cannot believe how slow the lightmapping is. These are not the best of screenshots, but they will do for now. I have three of work with the levels in cshop, and another showing the gun attached to the camera moving around on a matrix. I will have a video shortly out.

If the pics do not show up, go to here for them:

Now see, that's what we want... just a couple of screens, nothing more, and I'll throw the trouts in the trash.

2nd screen looks promising at any rate 1st one, texturing job is off, 3rd one, the light has too high of a radius. Also don't be afraid to give an area no lights at all... shadow is the lightmapper's key to an immersive enviroment

Good work at any rate, keep it up...

Thanks. Okay, so I will be changing the lighting on the third. The first screen was an early on level that I will be changing later on. I am glad you liked the 2nd one. I will change the light radius for the third, and I will add some more detail to the world.

Any other comments? I will have a video out soon with ingameplapy.

Those look really nice. The gun is sweet
I think the lighting in the third one looks awesome. The second screenshot need some texture fixup on the left wall where it switches textures, but other tan that is is good.

Nice screens but is there any chance you could make them a bit smaller, they're taking an age to load.

Yeah, I will make them a bit smaller. I have no objects to work with right now, and these screens are going to be improved. I will have pics with more detailed levels.

@DBAlex: Very nice level. I am looking for a better level editor for the game, so I have been looking into Math89's. Would you be interested in providing a better editor for the game or helping with level design?

I want the in the game screens to be a suprise. I will post them when I am near a demo. Right now, I am going to post some more detailed level shots once the cshop lightmapper stops, and then I will start to show some of the graphics and basic interface. I want to slowly introduce the game to the player.

Oh, I completely forgot I was using his. I was making some code for math89 when I did this, and it used his gun. Okay, so you can scale textures in cshop, but it gets messy. You have to use the UV values, and they do not always work out as planned.

Did he also have permission to post your entire demo as soley his own work on www.gamedev.net and in the process managing to alienate himself from the community there and get himself banned for his dishonesty.

Open the lightmap file in wordpad.
replace the sentence: lightmap_0 by Lightmap_1
Make a search using "#"
if in your lightmap you'll see "1.#qnand0;" (or something similar) replace this by "1.0;" & all will works fine.

That should do it.

Thank you for the positive support. As I promised, screens today. So, I think that I will have a demo within a few weeks of a few levels and a cutscene and basic controls. It should show the basics of the game. The demo after that will give improved AI with all the sounds put in, and computer hacking system. I will add new features to the game from there like vehicles, new guns + enemies, and better control. I will also have in the final version death match and MMO multiplayer online.
