Use the flames from this thread to fuel your ambitions. People are entitled to an opinion but remember that an opinion is defined as:
1. A belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
2. A personal view, attitude, or appraisal.
3. A judgment or estimate of a person or thing with respect to character, merit, etc.: to forfeit someone's good opinion.
I can sense your goals and aspirations behind this project. I can tell you have spent allot of time and invested some money into making your dream a reality. You are proud of your accomplishments so far and you love your work; at the end of the day you can reflect on all you have accomplished so far and were your headed tomorrow. Every day you learn a new trick and your tasks become easier to complete, you become more efficient in your craft day by day. Don’t ever let an opinion burn you out or deter you from reaching your goal.
I believe this thread started with some constructive criticism then turned sour somewhere down the line. Basically I will try to sum up the general opinion that the community has. Traditional Packs created for FPSC follow a theme like: Horror, Sci-Fi, Urban, ect. These types of themes are what the community is comfortable with using. Game developers usually follow a theme when creating there levels and environments, remember your selling your packs to developers. Take a game like "Silent Hill" for playstation and analyze it from a developer’s perspective. This is a Horror, Thriller style game that uses some basic generic horror themed environment settings to accomplish a sinister gameplay. A little bit of Fog, Low Ambient Lighting, and Grunge Textures make an incredibly sinister environment, these were the key elements that the developers used for their level design. When the fog horns would sound, the world would transform from foggy to grungy and this element was one that made it a top seller which its still selling todate.
When you’re creating your packs, think about what environment you are trying to create first; what type of audience are you trying to reach, what type of theme are you trying to accomplish. Stay focused on your theme and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish. As a general rule of thumb, never bite the hand that feeds you; you may need to edit your comments directed towards TGC and keep your opinions private. Remember that these threads reach a world scale audience and are not exclusivly geared towards a New York, Bronx, Brooklen auidiences; keep your diologe as diverse as possible.
I wish you the best of luck with your project and encourage you to continue to pursue your ambitions. I am originally from New York and I know how ruff New Jersey streets can get, a little criticism in our streets would get you roughed up or shot up. Let me know if you need anything.
