Welcome to the August Edition of the FPSCreator Level Design Competition. This month's theme is: Science-Fiction

sponsored by Phoenix Sentry

Here are the rules:

-Game has to be a sci-fi game (well, duh!)

- Custom Media is encouraged and WILL be awarded extra points if it fits in well enough

- No stealing or pirating media. We will not accept your entry if it is discovered that you pirated media or broke a license agreement.

- Your level must be a compiled exe or an installer/FPSPack. Installers are encouraged. Maximum file size is 250 MB. NO .FPM!

- Your level must have a storyline which is easily viewed while ingame, not just a text file you include with your entry. You may display this ingame storyline anyway you wish..

- Forum rules DO apply.

- The start of this contest begins the moment you finish reading this post; the Deadline is September 1 (2007). Any entries received after 11:59PM Eastern Standard Time (23:59 for the rest of the world) on September 1st, will NOT be considered for this contest...NO EXCEPTIONS will be made.

*Some basic criteria (what the judges will look for):

-Humor (does your game have any subtle jokes or puns in it?)

- Level Design (how well your level is layed out, and flows)

- Custom Media (this includes art and sound, remember though- good use of stock media is encouraged)

- Believability. Does it look realistic? Would someone really make a big room with one or two objects in it?

- Originality in story

- Professionalism. Does it have an installer with a license/readme? Does it have a custom icon and a manual?

- GamePlay (your frame-rate is a factor)

- Completeness (does your level have a clear beginning and end)

- Menu Look (is the menu original, or standard)

This is a generic list of the requirements the judges will be given (their list will be more detailed). Each category is worth 5 points each; except the Believability, Storyline, and Professionalism categories, which are worth 10 points each. After all the results are in, each entrant's points will be added up; the highest score wins

Some items may be modified on this list, but nothing major.

You may now BEGIN.

NOTES:

EDIT- Thanks to the mod who stickied this!

Silent Thunder will discuss prizes and judges.

We are starting this now becuase Silent Thunder might not be here if we wait...

Stevie's 2 model packs and Black Terror's model pack have been added.

Disturbing13, Airslide, and Mr. Makealotofsmoke are judges, that's 5 so we don't really need anymore right now.

I hope we get more than 3 entries this time...

I hope you do too, but....

Do you think he may be making it a bit difficult for some to join in? Just a thought. If I have some time, I may give this one a go. I have a decent story in my head, anyway.

Best.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

I don't think so. I'm not having them mandatory to enter, its just recommended; and even so, icons are easy to make, and a manual only takes a few hours if you rush it.

Here's the deal.

Pretty much anybody can join.

You can use stock media for this. It's recommended that you don't, but at least you entered something. Last time, I was under the impression that people were intimidated about the whole competition thing. Don't be. It's pretty simple...

It's not really that I don't like them, but they're all the same, I wanted to be a judge because I'm not very good at level designing.

Okay, not that the game is a horrible game, but I actually would reccomend placing a usefull piece of software as automatic first place, not that a game is bad, I think software has more use to help the FPS developer. But hey, whatever, it's up to you!

P.S. Butter Fingers, I am not saying your game is horrible, I actually think you are one of the best developers on the forum!

OK, here's how these competitions work. After everyone has entered, I gather all of the levels together, then congratulate everyone. Then all of the prizes go to me.

Quote: "But hey, whatever, it's up to you! "

Uh, wrong, it isn't up to me, Butters offered that, I can't just say ill give away some of the prizes without permission to. For example, if you made a model pack, and was selling it for $15 and offered it as a prize, wouldn't you be mad if I said everyone who enters gets that for free?

Also: I'm not sure whether to only let the first 3 levels get prizes, or more......I'll decide later, depending on how many enter, and what the people who have donated prizes think.
