My desktop resolution is at 1024x768x32 and I am running win2k so I don't have the second option, right clicking does not give me a compatiblity tab.

If you are trying to make a work around, that's great, but for the time being, do you think I could get an early version just so I can continue to use the program?

It might be a porblem with win2k's "user32.dll" not containing the function I use to get the user's screen resolution. Try putting my user32.dll file in the app's folder:

I tried putting the dll in the app's folder but that did nothing, same error. I even downloaded and tried the WinXP version of USER32.DLL to no success.

Did you use this function to get the users screen resolution in any of the earlier versions? If so, then it cannot be to blame.

I already used it before, but maybe win2k had some kind of update.

What does this program do for you:

The program you posted just opens and closes immediately without giving any error message.

Could you post the actual code that you use to set the display. I will test it out myself and tell you if I learn anything.

it's not supposed to do any other thing

What version of dbp do you have? I've got 6.8

I sent you a new etxyz exe...

I also have 6.8. The code compiles and runs succesfully (just added do/loop after it to check).

The only way I can replicate the error is by changing the screen settings via the editor to a value greater than that my moniter can support.

I will let you know if the new exe works as soon as I try it out.

EDIT: The new exe gives me the same display error. The only thing I can think is your have the editors display settings set above 1024x768 when you are compiling.

Is there a way to change display settings through the editor with code surge?

This error (since it is line 0 I assume) is being caused by a setting set by the editor. If you can change the display settings, they need to be 1024x768 or lower to work for me.

I appreciate you helping me through this.

Yes it was! I somehow sometime typed 1024x778 in there...

If anyone else has problems, let me know.
Oh and Super Nova, please rename the exe I sent to:
'Extended Terrain XYZ.exe' (with spaces), so it gets correctly replaced with next update.

Is it possible to use Nuclear Glory Collision with the terrain maps from this program?
Your download of examples seems to be broken.
Have you a video or example of a cave?
Thanks..

There are many videos.

Yes you should be able to do that (if you can setup any mesh with ngc)...

Concerning the demomaps:
That's true the link wasn't working. I fixed it, see first post!

I see as of update 1.6 that I can use my terrains with dark physx... how exactly do I do this? Is there an example code at all?

there are some lines to uncomment and then you'll be able to do exactly the same as in the demo video (were I drop the boxes and spheres on he terrain)

Please read first (first post):
Quote: "Credits
Sample textures by Ensemble Studios (AoM) and Microsoft Games"

Quote: "lots of textures included to play around (don't use them in commercial projects, they are copyrighted)"

(and we already had this, look at some of the older posts)

Don't you think I can use them for demonstrational purposes?
I can remove all of them if anybody wishes so.

It just puts me off when I see a person using someone else's work in a project of their own, even if they mention the source.

Ok, i won't distribute them with it anymore.
Version 2 will only contain textures which you can use.
Thanks for the advice.

@Master Xilo,

Here's an interesting question for you.

How difficult would it be to modify this to allow you to edit multiple terrain files? What I'm getting at is, I want to be able to edit the first file, and then move over to one edge and the file for the next area loads, and allows me to edit it keeping the edges between the two files even.

I'm thinking the way that you've put this all together and the way you store the data, it wouldn't be to hard to develop a terrain loading system that dynamically loads and unloads portions of a terrain file as you are moving through a level, thus giving unlimited terrains.

It might even be better to store it all in one file and only read/write the portions you're working on.

Tagging this thread for updates as I am unaware of any other means to do so.

My next game will be a 3D game and this looks like a potentially useful program.

@ XILO

a year ago I asked if you would add a direct x or dbo export for this program.

this was the reply I got........

Posted: 7th Mar 2008 02:26 toggle
@tatts
From the next update on, the program will automatically save all the objects as .dbo in a subfolder next to the MapTextures folder.
It'll do this the first time you load your terrain for faster future loading.
I'll add rem-arked code to the importer function source file to setup the terrain collision for dp too, it'll also save the generated collision meshes for faster future loading.

Will this update ever happen?

I tried to do this, but this created a huge amount of data and isn't very convenient, because you might want to change the parameters of the loading function. It also was a lot SLOWER than the IN-CODE generating of the terrain meshes.

Should have replied earlier, sry.

That's ok I really wanted them more just to drag in other modeling programs so that I could model around them. but seeing the poly count on alot these would probably make the modeler run slow anyway.

maybe you could just release a code that explains how how to save out as x or dbo for those who would like to play around with it....

anyway on another note, I've tried the dark physics testing on the terrains and I could'nt help but notice that although most hit and roll around the terrain, some actually fall right through it. is it supposed to do that?

@Master Xilo

While working on one of my terrains, I noticed a texture "bug" after exporting it and reloading it. It appears setting a texture scale to the lowest value (1) will cause the texture to become distorted upon reloading the terrain. If I change the scale to a value above 1, the texture looks fine, but I would like to use 1 (actually less than 1 if it were possible ).

Has anyone else noticed this problem?

I've hidden my rather hasty post in a code box to conceal my embarassment:

Update: I am pleased to announce that I now have everything working swimmingly, and yes it was my fault! I appologise profusely for the above rant, my faith is now restored.

I discovered that I was way behind in my version of DX9. Very easy to forget that Vista only ever checks for DX10 version when auto-updating. Anyway, if anyone else has this problem I suggest you run the DX installer from this location, to fix it.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=C1367BC3-4676-481A-BFAA-5C15D1D7199D&displaylang=en

It might be worth pointing this out in the installation instructions too. It might also be worth pointing out the other dependancies such as DBPro_windlg.dll, MSVCP71.dll and Matrix1.dll in your readme file. This thread is getting quite large and it was a pain to trawl through to find my answers.

For those of you that don't want to trawl:

Matrix utilities: (wonderful in themselves)
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=85209&b=18

Win-Dialogue plug in:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=102574&b=1

MSVCP71.dll: (this goes in C:/windows/system32/ not your plugins-user folder)
http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/M/msvcp71.dll/7.10.3077.08/download.html

Update to the update:
Tried all these steps on a 2nd vista pc and still get:
Runtime Error 105 - File does not exist at line 776

The only thing I did differently in the first PC was a complete re-install of DBPro.

Now I am confused and annoyed!

Please help Master Xilo!

@cram: pop it in your windows/system32 folder

@ Xilo: I still cant get the TerrainXYZ.exe to work on my second PC although the examples work fine when I remove the user32.dll referances at the beginning of the code. I seriously suspect this is what is to blame for the woes in the compiled editor. Perhaps you could try using a first run dialogue or even a config file to set resolution. I may be barking up the wrong tree here but user32.dll seems to cause problems whenever I have come to use it.

All of this goes to highlight how careful one has to be when distributing a commercial package made with DBPro. I don't blame you at all Xilo, but would like to help get this sorted. I am quite happy to try any mods you make to nail this problem, as now I have this program working on my 1st pc I am VERY happy with it. I would like to ensure you get no further grief for your fine work due to problems that are not of your own creation.

I'm sorry for the trouble you got.

The code for loading the maps depends on noting as far as I'm aware (I tested it once and it just worked with a pluginless install of dbp)
(but I forgot to comment out one phy update for physics testing)

The user32.dll is used to get the reolution of your screen, I don't know why that shouldn't work.

OK here's something odd.

I managed to get the editor running on my 2nd pc (god knows how) the first dialogue box appeared asking me to select language, all of the options in the dropdown menu appered to be a listing of some kind of file (looked a bit like html to me). I chose cancel and voila XYZ worked.

I closed it down and tried to restart, but got the same old
Runtime Error 105 - File does not exist at line 776

Very bizarre, why did it run that one time and then revert to it's old behaviour?

Hope thats of some help Xilo
