Page!

Well I have no idea, I've just always had it. I suppose check you're subscribed to the thread at the top-left, and IIRC there's an email that has to be entered in your profile settings, but I might be wrong.

Idk if you're being serious, but I would be wary of the unbranded drives, particularly the SSD.

I'm better ! Been playing guitar just now, btw...working on a new song...not sure if i'll finish it, because I have so much game dev (and cooking and cleaning my appartment, and going to work, and this and that...hahahaaa) to do, but so far, it's coming along pretty good . Some kinda Black Metal, I'd say.
Really looking forward to what they're working on though...sounds like they don't want it to sound like it did with Nitro.

Yep, I'm serious. The only problem would be financial (not that I can't afford it atm, but I always think twice before spending a lot of money).
The reviews are pretty good, and I can always put in my current SSD in. Was even thinking about adding my current 16GB memory sticks in the new one, making a total of 32 gigs.

Yeah nice, that should be pretty cool. It'll be a better GPU (mine's a 970) and probably a better motherboard (mine's an asrock) than mine, and if you put the extra 16gb in it'll have more memory than mine, but I've got an i7 4790k. Sure your CPU will be newer and watercooled, but mine was expensive! Plus I have a 1TB Samsung SSD which I bought on my credit card to get the $250 cashback a while ago

Yeah...never been into Marilyn Manson myself, and now that I saw them, I'm happy i've never been a fan of the band, lol. Perhaps it's because i'm not a fan of their music, but I really didn't enjoy their show. The other bands were a lot better imo.
There was also Apocalyptica, which did only Metallica covers...but, pretty good show.
Next was Max and Iggor Cavalera 'Back to the Roots'...great show! Really loved how they performed and turned the crowed into a mosh pit, ahhahaaa!
Then, the band I was really looking forward to...Megadeth...megagood show...too short for my taste, but the songs they brought were played almost like the original songs, which imo is a sign of professionalism...and great talent! Thumbs up for them \m/!
After Megadeth...time for the one and only Alice Cooper...it's not really my favourite band, but darn...great show they performed! The guillotine act (and all other acts they did) were cool to look at and well done...! Nice!
Finally...Marilyn Manson...hmm...I would have left the gig sooner, but I wasn't alone, and I wasn't the one who drove the car, lol!

Anyways...was a really great day nonetheless...had lots of fun, good company, enough to eat and drink...and great music...what more can a man ask for, eh ?

Caught me off guard there.

They've got so much great material of their own, don't see why they're so insistent on Metallica covers.

Yeah...they said something about it being because of an anniversary, I think.

Indeed, it was! Really raw and good thrash metal! Max's voice was awesome to listen to. Reminded me a bit of Robb Flynn's (Machine Head) voice at times.

I read that thinking "you should have told me you were going to Wacken" as all of them were there...and I watch all of their sets.

Out of those Marilyn Manson was the only one I hadn't seen before and he was big in my teenage years and I was not disappointed, I think he put on a good set, despite some of his weird tendencies on stage.

However, at Wacken, I was very glad to catch Tengger Cavalry. I always thought of them as some unknown obscure band I like that I probably wouldn't get to see. Then a week before Wacken I saw them on the line up. I managed to record their first two songs and they were very good.

Also, please don't mind my fingers, it's only a camera phone.

Quote: "Yeah...they said something about it being because of an anniversary, I think. "

Pretty much this. It was the anniversary of their album of Metallica covers, so they just did Metallica covers. When I saw them last time, I don't recall them playing any Metallica and mostly played their own material.

But what I liked about the set I saw, was they did the songs from the album as they would have done back when it was recorded and then slip into other Metallica songs, but done as they would have done today after they have improved over the years. Some of the solos done on the cello were just killer.

But bands I watched at Wacken this time round?
Accept, Europe, Status Quo (I am not even kidding), Mayhem, Marilyn Manson, Emperor, Megadeth, Apocalyptica, Grave Digger, Sonata Arctica, Architects, Clawfinger (not intentionally), Alice Cooper, Tengger Cavalry, Katatonia

I missed Boomtown Rats, who were also playing, not usally my thing, but I would have seen them for the sake of it, but they played on the Wednesday, which is normally just small unknown bands and we spent that night in the village...but looking at Weds' lineup, appears to no longer be true, as Ugly Kid Joe and Annihilator also played that day.

And the good thing is, most of those bands I hadn't seen before, so it makes it a good year.

Yeah, darn...them solos were excellently played! And, you can call it a good or a bad thing (depending on how you look at it), but by them playing Metallica covers, they got the crowd hyped, because most people know Metallica songs, and not everyone knows original songs by Apocalyptica.
Don't get me wrong...I would have enjoyed it if they had played their own stuff too though .

I would love to see Emperor one day, lol...oh...and Judas Priest is also on my to see list. Last time they were in Belgium, they played on a Wednesday...had to work nightshifts (as usual, lol)...so yeah...bad timing !

Here's my new Megadeth t-shirt, btw! \m/

I suppose a one-off tour for their anniversary, it's good to play the album. Like when I went to see Metallica they it was the anniversary of Master of Puppets, so they played the whole album and first time I saw Emperor it was the anniversary of In the Nightside Eclipse, so they played the whole album.

Anyway, some of Apocalyptica's own stuff is really good and honestly, I wish they did invest in vocalists more, because the vocal version of Path is so damn good and also from their earlier stuff, this is what hooked me in after the Metallica stuff.

With Emperor, my dad ended up joining me for Emperor, now he doesn't really like black metal, he was just going to 'tolerate' it. Then when I later asked him what who he enjoyed this year, he said "Emperor", I thought he was joking, turned out, he wasn't. So if that says anything, that they're worth seeing if you get the opportunity to.

Well...got my new rig Thursday !

Had to first transfer all the stuff that I still need on my external HD, and then start up the new 'monster', lol...and today I've been busy installing all (or rather a small part of it, hahhahaaa) of my programs so that I can get back to work on my game 'Crystals Of Theia' in Unreal Engine.
Most annoying parts (for me personally then), is getting the new rig up to date (like the Win 10 update that took like hmm...6 or 7 hours, I think), and then download every program again (zbrush, 3DCoat, blender, Unreal Engine, Visual Studio Express, antivirus program, etc, etc, etc...the list goes on and on, lol)!

On top of that, is retrieve all them license keys and what not, hahahaa...or remember what password I used for this and that !
I know most of my passwords, but some I don't because I hardly have to use them (using the option 'remember password' for some programs).

What I do like though, is having a fresh PC again...not cluttered with all kinds of crap, and ready to rock 'n roll !
I try to keep my PC's as tidy as possible, but after a long period, you end up with a cluttered PC somehow, hahahaaa!

Next job will be to clean up my previous rig (reformat) and get it ready for my sister's son.
Been doing that for quite some time now...I buy a new one, and my old one goes to her.

My previous PC is what they would call 'outdated' (any PC is outdated after six months, lol...), but it's still a pretty good one imo. And good enough for my sister's son, because he doesn't play all them new AAA games anyways.

Tested my new rig today, btw...played 'Rise Of The Tomb Raider' again...to see how fast my new PC is compared to the old one...was impressed...had around 12 to 17 fps playing TR on highest settings on my previous machine...and one the new one...a very solid 60 fps ! You could say that my new machine runs at least 4 times better !

Awesome man, good stuff.

Quote: "What I do like though, is having a fresh PC again...not cluttered with all kinds of crap"
This. Definitely the best feeling and, IMO, by far the best way to give a PC a tune up. I reinstall Windows 7 fresh around every 6 months, and I've never regretted it!

Yeah, I do that every x amount of time as well...a fresh re-install...and in between, I use a program to clean/maintain/speed up my machine. It keeps all the drivers up to date, cleans registry, boosts internet/HD and so on...and it's free, so....

Btw, been trying out some NVIDIA HairWorks to be used on the main female character of my game COT . Tested it on a cube model first, and result is pretty good so far! This is with some minor tweaks, and I was impressed already.

Hair reacts realistically (wind, collision, body movement, etc...). Next will be to apply this on a character mesh, and see how good it runs ingame.

Here you can see the hair strands (no planes). Added wind effect to see how the hair reacts .

I spotted a Triumph Rocket III in the carpark earlier today. Alas I did not meet the rider, but damn, never thought I'd see one. That's a pretty big engine, definitely one of the biggest engine on a bike currently on the market (possibly even the biggest). But I still have my eyes on the Bonneville, I did my theory test a couple of weeks ago, about to book in my mod 1 training, but may have to lend some money this month, so may have to wait.

Yeah...we need more posts, talking, conversation, crappy texts, nerdy stuff, music (preferably metal ) discussion, etc, etc...

Btw, my team is complete now!

There's me (2D and 3D artist, musician, level designer, a bit of programming), Johnny (professional programmer), Harry (programmer and 3D artist), Brent (3D artist), Ahmed (pro 3D artist/generalist), Julian (great music composer and sound designer), Isaak (pro male voice actor...he worked for Marvel and Activision...did various voices for a couple of 'Call Of Duty' games)...and last but not least Katabelle, great female voice actress, who will give character...to the main character !

Oh snap! Me too!

I am a one man team.

Okay, this is my way of saying I am doing developpy things again. Cutting corners though, being a 1 man team with a full-time job. This is following trying ideas in stuff like RPG Maker MV and actually decided to boot up Unity3D and will be snagging Modo Indie once my trial is up. The idea I have is plenty doable. What is it? I won't fall into the trap of racing ahead of myself like I used to. I'll talk more when I have something to show. Annoyingly, I am also re-learning how to 3D model again, I have made attempts already and the results are awful. I thought it'd be like riding a bike...surprised my computer case sustained my weight...

When waiting to feel like you have something ready to show, you never really feel ready

Posting to market / build interest with players its better to wait and polish

Posting to development peers, post early and post often, the work will benefit greatly. (not what you want to do, what you are going to do: this can create a false feeling of accomplishment and impair your progress, but rather what you have done and are doing, concrete things that can be critiqued and improved )

I am just avoiding old habits. In my earlier days of the community, I'd post something barely done, then something more barely done and then have a pile of barely done things and in grand scheme of things, not gotten that far. Except in the game of my Abeyance demo mayhaps. It is more a case at the moment of refamiliarising myself with my tools and shaping out a map to work with and figuring out how UniRPG works so that I know how to do what I want to do before doing what I want to do, so I can safely say "yeah! This is viable with what little time I have" or "Scale it back foo!" Thus all assets are stuff I've nicked from the asset store as placeholders.

But, I can upload some screenshots:

https://imgur.com/a/RGwq3

None of my own assets yet, so the prettiness could soon die. My weakness back in the day was always texturing and animation. But I am determined to rectify that and learn to do it proper with Modo.

So when I get a chance over the weekend, gonna look at dialogue and combat. The shortcut for me is the UniRPG addon for Unity. Adds the style of gameplay I want to go for and enough options to work for me (and being unity, expandable) and means I can focus on assets and writing. Basically, the inspiration has come from playing successful bedroom coded games like Undertale and Stardew Valley, just by how they're presented and written and without any real complexity to them. And also Divinity Original Sin, which was able to have so much depth to a much more local area, where they're not having to go mad on assets and media to make something so beautiful and in depth and create the sense of adventure without it being an epic journey across the lands. So they lend inspiration to what i plan on doing at least. How well I pull it off, remains to be seen.

Substance Painter / Designer is pretty fantastic for texturing if you can put up the money for it.

Also for baking maps . For around $12/month, you can subscribe to the software. I really dislike subscription...actually, Substance Painter/Designer is the ONLY software I've yet subscribed to.

I've had a look at Substance Painter and Designer. If I don't do so well with learning to texture in Modo, I'll try a single month or two to see how I get on and if it's worth the money. I am just not that artistic when it comes to drawing or painting or using textures and so on.

At this point, I have no qualms about just buying royalty free music or finding freebies too. I'll try to improve, I got a couple of pieces of software I can play with, but another thing I am less good at.

What part of texturing are you struggling with, Sepp?
Sculpting/modelling/texturing are my most favourite parts of creating a model ☺.

Texturing in general, I've not properly learned the art of it and have generally had the basic tools to do it. UV Mapping for me has been 'ok' but if I am using a tool that allows me to paint onto a texture in 3D I can actually cheat thanks to one of SIlo's Unwrapping tools. I think I am the sort of person who'd benefit from a relatively good quality 3D painting tool that allows you to use a texture brush too. To be fair, Sculptris was a new thing to the playground when I halted, so something like that would have been great - hence I have it installed and I think a case of teaching myself, but Modo has such tools too, so if I am going to be using that, I can see which I end up preferring.

And back in the day, I was a student with barely any money, so I generally used what I could get my mitts on. Paint.NET was my texturing tool for quite some time. And I had a copy of Cinema 4D R6 that came free with a magazine, which was hugely outdated, even at the time.

Just take a look at some of the stuff I did back in the day.

The 3D model (not my best work, but decent enough)
The Textured 3D Model (My best ever attempt at something photorealistic....but using photos, but still needs a lot of work)

3D Model
Textured

Another textured model

Slightly annoying though, this is where I left off with my modelling skills when I stopped and probably should have kept going . But I am now working to get back in the flow of doing stuff of that quality...and trying to have my texturing caught up too.

I'll move them all over to Imgur and put them in an album: https://imgur.com/a/AoBXH

I have made the move over the Imgur anyway because I hate the abomination Photobucket has become, but all of my old images are over there and I have loads of stuff on there. XD

[Edit]

Also, I forgot how nice SIlo2 was to use, even though it hasn't changed in years, it just so well designed. Notably, the surface tool is pretty awesome. I've built a low poly base mesh for the shape of the character, now I can just use the surface tool to build polygons around that base mesh, so I can focus more purely on polygon flow and making tweaks as I go along.

Working on something today, I forgot how much I loved Silo 2's modeller. Although it hasn't changed in years, it's still an awesome tool. For example, the surface tool, I've modelled a basic human shape to the proportions I want and now I can pain polygons onto it and focus on my polygon flow and building a more detailed mesh around it. Like so.

Cheers. It took a couple attempts to get it right though. The one I spent the most time on being the ugliest and with a little temper lost, I remembered how to polyflow more or less correctly.

I don't think the 3D modelling community I was a part of exists anymore, shame because they helped set me on the right track in the first place (and gave a good shout out for SIlo 2, which I love so much), but I may sign up to something like CGSociety and get brutalised by professional artists until I do stuff right. And surprisingly...I still remember my old login for CGSociety. I last logged in 10 years ago.

I like the folds on upper half, very believable.

I'm not so sure about the deep dark crease in the lower half though, it seems to be defying gravity a bit.

Here is the latest recent revision of mine, still in good old dark basic pro

(I know, the pose is a bit stiff)

Looking very good still, Ortu! Never really succeeded getting DBPro to run on my new PC, but I loved working with it .
How's the progress going? Are you working alone on this?
