Nice one, keep up the hard work

I would be interested to see how your vegetation system progresses as I am attempting something like this at the moment.

Anyways, good luck with your project

I tried keeping my character as a rigid dynamic box, but as I moved along the terrain he bounced up and down and sometimes flew up really fast and high

Sorry to hijack and ask so much, but I'd be greatful if you could share your tech's

I personally think you should use your own gun models/textures rather than those. Your game will be better if everything is yours - otherwise it just doesn't feel as original. My 2 cents.

Well, 14 FPS at the boxes....

System:
ATI Radeon 9800 XT
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
2 GB Ram

No Phys Card

I think you should use low poly models for the boxes.

Beta 6 runs at a constant 60fps for me. Nice work. The loading time is somewhat excessive though - what is your program actually doing?

Its loading (and quite fast for me).

Also i forgot to post the controls:

The reason for early release is because im now releasing betas when i get enougth done. As production has speeded up releases will be more frequent.

Quote: "I think you should use low poly models for the boxes."

I use LOD which means the model changes to low poly when you are far away. And when i add LOD on Terrain ill add something i call ALOD.

IM LOOKING FOR 3D MODDELERS SO IF YOUR INTERESTED, POST HERE, CATCH ME ON MSN OR DROP ME AN EMAIL.

Hey could you add me to MSN? The MSN button isn't working for me, my email is the same as it is in the email button.

Cheers

I am guessing that I must have Dark Physics to run the Betas, it gets stuck when starting the engine. When I minimize it it tells me that it can't find the DarkPhysics SDK?

i suppose my critisism doesnt really help becaeuse im still registered as a newb and that i am but is it just me or does the little patchs of grass look 2d and when you lok from a distance the boxes turn into a 2d grey SQUARE not a grey CUBE.

this probably doesnt help you but im not always the best person.
And heres a little bit of positive critism--
the game didn't make me want to throw my laptop out of the computer which is good because most games do

looks good, will test it now but is it on purpose that the folder inside the archive is called "Beta5" ?

Edit: oops didnt see 3rd page
Edit2: from preferences.txt:
Quote: "
settings_bottomtext="ONE GAME ENGINE BETA 5"
"

Ok it IS Beta 5 , has just 2 guns and no jumping, dont see new terrain either...

Another Edit:
Oh the download link says "http://www.turbodog.co.uk/files/beta6b.rar" but its still linked to "http://www.turbodog.co.uk/files/beta5.rar"...

real Download of Beta 6b: http://www.turbodog.co.uk/files/beta6b.rar

it does fly over, its just really hard to see because of fog. It flys at 200m above the set target @ 250Kph.

F1 Calls in an airstrike (you must look at the target)

Ill make it a bit more simple to see like a bar to say how far away it is or an image on the HUD. (possibly both)

yeah, first ill add more features like a console. Im probly going to put the scripting engine into the console so you can go.

that will make a box and position it while your playing the game! This feature will be disabled on campaign mode though.

Nice demo, just a few problems:
-The framerate is quite low, I think this might be to do with my vegetation system where I am guessing you have the steprate set to 1. You should change it to something like 10, there is not a noticeable visual difference but it should speed things up a bit.

-When everything like shaders, shadows and particles etc. are turned on, when shooting near the boxes in the water (even if you aim at the sky) it is as if you hit all of them at once because they all jump up.

-The terrain looked a bit blocky, but i'm sure that can be corrected.

Other than that, a great job Are you going to consider making this commercial? Because with a bit of fine tuning i'm sure you will be able to get this to a very high level.

Ill put the steprate to 10, also the LOD system is quite laggy on poor CPUs, so i might change it to 3 levels instead of 5 or make it adjustable.

Quote: "-When everything like shaders, shadows and particles etc. are turned on, when shooting near the boxes in the water (even if you aim at the sky) it is as if you hit all of them at once because they all jump up."

Go into preferences.txt and disable particles by setting the particles to 0, t physics is probly one step behind the timer so ill get that fixed soon.

Quote: "-The terrain looked a bit blocky, but i'm sure that can be corrected"

as there are no graphics options i had to turn the LOD to the lowest level possible so i can get it to run on most PCs.

The reason there is no shaders on the water i that the shaders mess up the command "Object in screen" so ill have to get that bug sorted before enabling the shaders.

Do you guys think that it will be good enougth to sell by early 2009?

Downloading now, I'll give you some feedback in a moment...

[EDIT]
It runs much smoother now that you have changed the vegetaiton steprate to 5. You have also sorted out the squares problem with the terrain. The only thing now is that you can see where all of the seams are in the terrain, but that could be sorted out easily i'm sure.

Very nice job indeed

Thanks for the feedback! im currently working on getting a 500KM squared map into the game D:. Before you ask... yes it is possible. Ive designed the new terain system for this so it should be really cool. I havnt heard of a map this size ever being attempted to run in DBPro so lets hope it works!

500kmĀ²? You mean ~70*70km? You'd rather have to stretch the terrain quite much (-> no detail) or use an unbelievably big heightmap which would never fit into the usual RAM.. however, I hope it works though.
I downloaded beta 6 (I think) some days ago, and, without wanting to criticise your work in any way, I was a bit disappointed. After reading so much positive feedbacks here I expected quite more than a Dark Physics-implementation with some weapon-models, running slower than crysis. I will download beta 7 now, maybe (hopefully) it changes my optionion.

Thats all ive added into the game engine, this game has been in production for 5 months and will be finnished by early 2009. Also there are many more features which ill add into a .txt file in Beta 8 release.

I use DBpro which is very slow for rendering

Beta 8 release July 1st

Beta 8 is going to be the last Beta of ONE.

Features lined up:

AI
Vehicles (including a basic helicopter system)
Large terrains
