heh, yeah looks alike

anyway, here's a VERY early shot of where i am with the texture, just laying down some bases and getting some shirt and hooded jacket details in.

of course, i didn't mean exactly like Alyx Vance, just the clothing style and 'character'

The girl sniper reminds me of, in the electra movie where electra goes Bow hunting as being an assasin. The character looks good, I know this is model, but it bothered me anyway, the strap for the gun looked a bit snug on the chest (where it looks too perfect) and would be a little bit more creasy( in real life). Although, it's just a model. Awesome female sniper Jon! ALl the best,

its not a strap for the gun, its for a bag (actually the same bag that the last character has)

im trying to stay away from modeling too much so i probably wont make the strap as a mesh. It doesn't look too out of place though, but thanks for mentioning it.

if however you meant creases in the texture of the jumper then yeah its still early progress.

still sussing things out and getting basic shapes in, a lot more to go.

nice snappy pose from a quick rig:

i got to about half way through the face at first when i remembered that i was going to record another texturing video of one of these models, so it wont be this one unfortunately

but whatever i do next I'll try to remember.

Looks great! But two things, the skin on the arms looks a little pale and the eyes and nose area on the face look a tad too masculine.

Looks great. But one thing is bothering me, it looks like she only has half of a face, like the other side hasn't been mirrored yet. Maybe it's my eyes playing tricks on me, but it seems like I should be able to see more of her face from this angle, like the right eye at least and maybe a part of the right cheekbone too.

i know what you mean, but i cant really see it, everything seems proportional from orthographic views

both characters have been uploaded and approved to TGC store.

explosives junky next or heavy gunner.

also uploading the beretta elites as free downloads so people can get them easier than searching the forums.

naaah, thanks dude for your suggestion but for these initial store models im trying to stay in one theme for the time being

started on demolition guy:

love sharing UV's half the texture from the original works well over most of the model so far. (obviously i will be completely redoing bits such as the face and hooded jacket, shoes, hat etc. but its better than showing just a frame eh? EH?

this guy may have a mullet and wear aviators, only time will tell.

those bags on the side wont look so plain when the texture is done, but with C4, wires sticking out etc.

@Jon- Awesome job on the gun holster and the facial features. His face looks spectacular (i'm tired of these models with perfect faces and no facial distinctions where your giving them fuzz{hair] and other distingushing features). Keep up the great work.

Jon,

I'm loving the character designs. They look great!

Can you post some pics in the various weapon holding poses?

I've been in dire need of a new characters to showcase my VWEAPs because I'm getting tired of the SAS guys. I really like your rogue but some of the ingame screens put me off a bit. I'm guessing it's something to do with the released biped because all the non-TGC characters seem to have their left hand way out of position when holding rifles

@ Errant,

Aye, characters in FPSC are annoying to get looking right, they seem to lose alot of their visual quality from the very bad 'fish eye' perspective of the camera viewport. (i know you must hate this too, I've seen alot of your screenshots made by zooming in with a weapon to get a nicer FOV.)

its another one of the problems with FPSC that we kind of have to put up with, like working on and tweaking a normal + spec map for one application only to find it displays alot different in another.

The standard biped is ok i guess, just too rigid, animations don't get the fluency you'd expect in a character, im sure its a hard subject, but something like the Advanced animation plugin being sold by TGC would help immensely.

I have adjusted the rifle animations, and they should be held correctly, not sure about what you mentioned.

I suppose the biggest eyesore is the pistol holding position in the standard biped, being held up to the eye, i have adjusted this to be held forward though.

finally, all/most of the characters' animations *kneel* instead of crouch, which i just think looks more natural for holding weapons. It was a quick tweak, but still a pretty nice change.

oh, and as for your request, do you mean pics of the biped weapon holding poses? or my own static poses?

@ LT Latters

Yeah that character is in the store now, though i prefer to think of it as a demolitions guy rather than a heavy support gunner (which im doing now)

I'll show something soon, but seeing as this is the last of the characters for this 'set' i had best fulfill my promise of a video tutorial/speed-through of the texturing with it. I guess that means it might take a bit longer....maybe.

after that its back to the fantasy pack.

Quote: "or my own static poses?"

Yep

Ahh, I thought that kneeling screen was piquing my interest for some reason but I couldn't put my finger on it.

Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think I saw any rifle poses on GCS. It was the SMG/Shotgun pose where the supporting hand looks missaligned with the weapon. On a random gripe (lol), it bugs me how that speciffic pose is set up for holding the MP40 which has the magazine waay out front, so the supporting hand is practically touching the firing hand. If holding any sort of modern SMG, the magazine wants to blow through the hand.

Anyhow, Your models are cheap enough I should just download one see for myself lol Keep up the good work.

Oh, and I should probably ask too. Would it be allright If I used your characters for screenies? Assuming I can get a pleasing effect, that is. I just finished a perfect weapon for the demo dude.

send it again, unfortunately alot manages to get by me, as i tend to get a lot of bogus requests and spam.

A'ight Errant, I'll get some posed shots up when i can. Also, yeah if they fit go ahead and use them for the screens i don't mind.

Here is the *Heavy gunner* so far:

It's pretty much the stereotypical bald n' obese thicko, the biker style i just like alot for this character.

It's still very early into the texture, but the style is breaking through. Also the bullet chain belt will be in there + some hair + beard (average beard not just muzzle )

...shoes will be changed to leather.

This texture is being and has been recorded from the beginning, I'd like to do something better than a speed-through in the end, but we'll see.

small progress, had some problems with photoshop which delayed everything until i decided to reinstall. Also trying to make use of some of the nice weather, heh.

out of curiosity, shortly after putting this screenshot together in photoshop i decided to look up the American civil war on wiki, only to find that the American flag is that of which represented the Union, being "north", whereas that flag on the chest resembles the south states correct?

I think i just made a stupid presentation, not sure, lol. guess I'll change that flag as it doesn't really make sense...i think. sorry don't know much abouts America's history, heh

p.s) if your having trouble finding it, there's a badge with the American flag on the left side of the upper chest.

Jon, it's fine as is.

Yes, the "stars and bars" on his chest was the rebel flag. It's very iconic esp. in the southern states, to this day. Some people see it as being racist but really, it's debatable and defined by the people who fly it (It's not like a swastica which there is little to no debate as to the meaning). To different people it means different things and I won't go into it because of AUP. If you look at this image of US flags, you'll see a bunch of states with "X" shapes in them. These all had that design in them but have been phased out over time (many if not all within recent decades).

It's probably the perfect shirt for a rolly-polly gunner like that. Having the small "stars and stripes" too balances things out IMO. I see he was a SEAL too

How is a flag racist? Racism's meaning has majorly changed when the word was created.
"Racism, by its simplest definition, is discrimination based on racial group. People with racist beliefs might hate certain groups of people according to their race, or in the case of institutional racism, certain racial groups may be denied rights or benefits. Racism typically starts with the assumption that there are taxonomic differences between different groups of people. According to the United Nations conventions, there is no distinction between the term racial discrimination and ethnic discrimination."
But really, Racism should not exist as we are all one race the Human Race. But anyways nice work Jon.
