Jasiek has spoken and the next contest will be a fantasy/sci-fi character design contest. The character should be game ready and fit the following criteria:

-10,000 polygon limit
-2048x2048 texture size maximum
-no animations necessary

Enjoy!

Wait... I started modeling the character right after I saw that Jasiek said that it was going to be a character compo... Does that rule me out of the competition ? I certainly hope not!

Okay here's my work in progress, again, I started right after I saw Jasiek telling what the compo idea was so I've had a few days on me, I've finished modeling and unwrapping both the character and the gun and I've also started texturing the gun. Both have 1 Map each, 2k maps. The character is 2686 faces and the gun is 1083 faces so they should be just fine for a game.
Oh and this is the first time I've really textured anything so bare in mind it's not perfect.

Gun wireframe:

Character Wireframe:

Gun UV's

Character UV's

Gun textured in viewport with default quality:

Fancy render of the gun with the texture on it (3 Point lighting owns! )

And the scaled down version of the texture:

Cheers, let's hope I'll finish this one - luckily there's a polygon limit, so I don't have to get too complex - plus I want him to be game friendly, never know, I might use him. Plus it finishes 2 days before lectures start, so goody.

Well, good luck all.

a quick question about the rules, since hair/fur in 3ds max dose not register on the poly count is it okay t still use it?

A blind man once asked me to describe a color, I simlpy replied, you cannot describe a color, only feel it. The blind man became frustrated and angry so i camly said, that was red-Conor Bell

The hair and fur modifier is not game ready, you can convert it to polygonal hair but the count is very VERY high, I think that if you are going to do hair it should be polygonal with textures, alpha maps, here is a tutorial on it http://www.paultosca.com/varga_hair.html

I could unwrap it no problems if you want.
And heck, I'm Swedish so it'll be easier to discuss things I guess.

So yeah anyways. Great entries so far, looking forward a ton to see who will win in the end, and for the record, I do think I'll actually finish mine in time

As far as hair and particles go, as dragon assassin said, it must be game ready. So the final polygon count would be determined by the exported model. Usually fur plugins do bump up the polygon count quite a bit, so have a go at using some planes and then alpha mapped textures.

EDIT: Never mind, I'm not going to be doing that model. I didn't get properly aligned reference images, plus I've got a better idea.

Okay, I've got an update for ya'll, after some kind of slow and hard work the gun texture is done, nothing really that fancy, but I think it looks cool. And bare in mind, my first complete texture on an model before, so it's probably not perfect.

Render:

First Person View:

Sized down texture:

Note that the UV Map isn't all that perfect either, but it does the job.
