I don't have a clue what the specs are. It's just old.
The game starts, it says loading, then the sound freezes and so does my computer. I'm left with one option. Pull the plug.

It happened with Verse as well.

Soul Hunter doesn't freeze, but it's not exactly what I'd consider playable.

If you're on XP, you can click "Start", then right-click on "My Computer" and select "properties". A window will pop up; your specs (well, most of them) should be in the bottom right.

To find out what graphics card you have, you may be able to right-click on the desktop, select "properties" and click the "Settings" tab. About halfway down the window, below the picture, mine says "Display: Plug and Play monitor on Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT" which means I'm running mine with an Nvidia 8600 graphics card.

It might be RAM. 384Mb sucks. I'm surprised any games work on that fullstop without smashing the pagefile.

That's not enough for XP itself. I wouldn't be surprised if 1/3 of your OS was constantly being paged in and out.

Up the RAM, what do you think this is, 1995? I've got 2Gb in my netbook!

The RAM requirement varies. I installed Windows XP yesterday on a new PC and without drivers it was running at 116Mb. During the driver install this jumped to 440Mb. Thanks, nVidia nForce...

The progress of this is looking excellent! If there was one thing I would change, I would say make the flashes of static during cutscenes much faster, as it kind of just looks like the game is glitching at the moment. Only a small thing, but just something I noticed while watching the video.

Edit: Down with the haters who clearly can't accept anything other than a triple AAA game made by a massive team who's budget was in the millions, and who probably refuse to eat anything but caviare off gold plates! Huzzah!

@Profit, ok, it seems like you just need more ram. If you get more and it still doesn't work, then that might be an issue I need to fix.

Thanks everyone else for helping out!

@Insert Name Here, well the vid does go slower than the actual game by a small amount, but once of the issues with having the static faster is doesn't seem like a transition. I'll keep an eye on it though, double check if it should be faster.

The background currently consists of the bottom half of a massive underground cavern, and the beginnings of a super advanced derailed train. It doesn't look like much yet, accept for how the dark fade works on the cave, which is super cool. I'll wait to post a pic. I'm posting now because I'm getting ready to leave to see my family in Florida, and with college immediately after that, I'm getting everything ready. Part of that is comics, so I've been working on comics for the last few days. I can't promise any more updates until after the 24th, though I may have time to work on Dream in between now and then, and just not post it.

Edit: Oh, and I just got a Wacom tablet.

Bye, see you all in a few weeks or so!

Great work! I can't wait to see the finished project.

Alright, I'm pretty settled in college right now, and I've got a schedual set up. Dream update should begin on a regular basis for the first time in who knows how long.

Minor update right now, I've worked on the animation. Most notably I've made Kel step when he turns. Everything else was stuff I doubt anyone noticed, so I wont even mention it. I'll be working on level 18 again soon, and will post a decent update when the background is closer to done.

Edit: I should mention, I haven't added any frames. Again, I no longer have the original model with the texture information mapped properly to it.

I'm really sorry for saying this but why is it so long for an update... must be because you multitask a lot with college and Dark Basic. Man I feel sorry for you. As as I go to high school I might have the same feeling, but don't worry I chill for the next month

Maybe you don't realize this, but I multi task College work, comic drawing, friends, girlfriend, dark basic, the occasional bout of major depression (like right now), and more. When I had no life in high school, I had time to code more often, even with bouts of depression, school work, and comics.

I apologize but I am a person, however bad I am at it, before a game maker, and I'm still trying to deal with my inability to work on a schedule of my own devising.

I sometimes get bouts of depression, too. So you're not the only one, Bizar Guy.

Can't wait for your game to come out! When you're done, do you think you'll make a website for it (if there isn't one already)?

@Yodaman Jer, There is a Bizar Games web site, but it's super old. I'll have a much better one up for when Dream is released, promise. Maybe I'll make a new one when I do the next version of the demo.

Quote: "its natural to be the one who's picked on and hated"

...

I have no idea what you're talking about. I am neither picked on or hated, you have no idea what was depressing me, and I'm going to guess you never will. This threads not about my personal life really though, and most DEFINITELY not about yours, so don't post it. That's what facebook and twitter are for, if your really need to post about it online for the world to see.

I'd like to keep this thread if not completely about Dream, at least mostly about stuff I'm making, preferably Dream and that which relates to it and its progress.
With that out there, I should mention that I've been super busy this week. I've gotten a good bit done on my comics despite, but only a small amount done on Dream. I'll push for an update Sunday, but it doesn't look like I'll get any work on anything done Saturday.

I have to apologize, I've been extremely sick for a week now. On top of that, I have a ton of work, so once I get over this, I'm going to be really busy for a long time.

I'll try to find time over the weekend, but I just don't know.

Will be seeing a real nurse today, it's possible I have swine flu.

Edit: it's not swine flu! Yay. just some g-d aweful virus my whole campus has. I made a comic about it (being the school cartoonist and all):

Wow! That's looking amazing!

I've got a question: How are you constructing the levels? Do you have a level editor that you wrote yourself, or are you hard-coding each one? Just curious. I'm trying to learn how to write my own level editor, but I'm not having much luck finding any resources or tutorials. Yay.

Anyway, I really can't wait to play the final product of Dream! I would totally buy it.

Yeah like there should be a CD version of the game where you get all that. Trust me it would be awesome to sell your game like that. The cases are really cheap along with the CDs which you will find anywhere.

They sell them at amazon.comhttp://www.amazon.com/Single-Black-DVD-Cases-Material/dp/B000EETHMO/ref=pd_sim_misc?ie=UTF8&qid=1254181953&sr=8-12
don't forget the CDshttp://www.amazon.com/TDK-Minute-700MB-Pack-Spindle/dp/B0007YFQH6/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1254182073&sr=1-8

The rest you could use a lot of paper and a stapler to make the comic book and instructions booklet

Hope you sell it at amazon to.

Just my two cents

@Yodaman Jer, Well, I have a sort of editor in my code. I'm not hard coding the levels, but I am entering all to coordinates of objects by hand. I highly recommend building an editor instead, for my next game I'm not starting it until all of my engine and editor works (next game is not grid based or block based, totally different engine). Good luck man, it's a good skill to have. And thank you very much for the support!

@Josh Mooney & TheZachadoodle, I thought about it for a bit and discussed with a friend. I think if I do do anything on a cd, it will be in a dvd style case, and the mini comic will not be of dream, but the events just before Dream, giving greater incite into what's happening and where it fits in my fictional universe. Thisw however would also be like a collectors addition or whatever, and would come maybe with some signed art or signed comic or something, and a forward I think. It would cost more most def. The file compressed is only 30 megs, and even with everything I'll be adding to the media, the compressed file will never get much above 40, if that I think. Uncompressed is around 60 megs.

If possible, I'd like to have this on steam, though not sure how that would work. Once I start getting more into marketing and selling, I'll look into that. I want to first and foremost have a near finished work for that giant compo, which I think I'm going to enter.

Updated the second level, LOD Forest. It was the slowwest level in the game because of the background, so I fixed it up.

Less trees, but they're bigger and the color overall is better. !8th level background is looking better and better, I'll be working on the effects and above ground part soon.

Edit: oh yes, this 18th level is now called "The Train Wreck". There are three levels in the game with that name, it becomes important is a cool little something that makes a lot of sense in replaying, along with every single other thing in the game. Also The fifth level in all three acts are dessert levels. Then there are three story levels, three snow levels, and three rising levels. Hmm... I'm also pretty sure there are only 3 rain levels. Looks like I ended up making three an important numbe in Dream as well.

Only two lava levels though, and only two non-rising levels with liquid you fall into that hurts.

Great job! I like the bigger trees.

Just watched all of your videos on YouTube again and subscribed. I really like the look of the Bizar Engine you showed there. Is that being used for Dream?

Quote: "I highly recommend building an editor instead"

I've been told they're very useful, and I know it would help me loads in the platforming game I want to make. I actually started learning how to code one in DBPro (the trial), so hopefully I'll be able to have one done in the future.

No, the core code for Dream is much older than the Bizar Engine. However, the Bizar Engine is being used for my next project, only a much improved version of it.

I've made blocks Kel is carrying when he falls lift up a bit in the air, like they're falling slower. It looks awesome, and was like two more words of code. I should put a new video together soon, the amount of polish is getting staggering. Also, the underground in level 18 in nearly done, I've added more detail to the train. I also now have access to better recording and sound editing equipment than my laptop speakers and windows recording tool, so I'll be rerecording some of the sounds, mainly voices. I've also made a sound track that will go into Dream, the first staple sound of my universe! It will be in the next vid I show.

He does that sometimes... apparently.

What's this? I say, it's a significant visual enhancement!

So yeah. Redone water and ice textures, new box model with new texture that changes with the weather, and new block texture. More to come. Older stuff will be made to look more in place. And the texture is normal when there is no weather effect.

Edit: Oh yes, I also fixed up the snow effect so it doesn't slow the game down as much.

Edit2: Improved rain effect and updated picture.

Edit3: Updated all backdrop textures, lava, and a whole bunch of other textures, and updated rain pic.

Is that hat like the mushroom power up in Super Mario Bros? Ya know Kel in a yellow suit that you mentioned earlier?

Cause that would be NEAT to have like a power up that lets you double jump to a stack of crates or possibly be invincible to all of the dangers that are out there.
