I did buy a joystick for the contest and it is a Wingman too.
Why would you not believe me?
It's the Wingman Rumble Pad.
Only force feedback is the vibrating.
And it wasn't very expensive either.

And my game has an option screen where you can select which buttons, on the joystick, do what actions.
If keyboard is used, you can select what keys do what action.
They like that when judging!

ok Randi, but the rules are like so: joystick is optional, mouse & keyboard must be the main control system. Why buy a joystick for this game??

Why buy a joystick for this game??
Why not?

joystick is optional
Yes and it will be bonus points if included.

mouse & keyboard must be the main control system
No, mouse OR keyboard must always be an option because not everyone has a joystick.

Plus I have never programmed for a joystick and thought it would be fun.
And, like I said, it wasn't expensive.

yes, i think is a good thing your game, every game, can be controlled by a joystick,(all my games are controlled by key or joy, but i start with a control via joy) i don't know about your theory of bonus points for one thing or another, i only see what the rules says.
Thanks for placing point on the "i" of my post, i know mouse OR keyboard, i was only advicing you.
The bonus point, as you mind at, are the alienware logo instead, and the alien , then playability, and maybe originality.
Good Luck Randi.

Nah, joysticks are crap for everything except flight sims and racers. Even then force feedback sticks are a nightmare. You try playing toca with your forcefeed back. hehe. The subtle vibrations on the stick are enough to put you into a spin.

My point is .........................................

Exactly.

Great idea - just make a website full of Randi pictures so then everyones happy. Except Randi. So then make a site full of models for Randi. Then everyones happy. Sorted.

ermes no means no ... without permission you can't use it (and quite frankly your obsession with my picture is begining to get creepy)

liquid ... :: turns his back on him ::

Randi, thats a good pad don't listen to whats said about it, the computer its gonna be tested on will have a joypad pretty similar in design and rumble features so no doubt it'll be a nice touch and if your game is anything like your description - then really its a more console style title and deserves some proper console controls

been tinkering with the model, will send in a sec the 3ds of it (provided my system doesn't crash again) ... got some refference pictures so i decided i'll crack open milkshape and make a new model in that for ya - that way it'll be simpler to edit to what you need and want.

i'm starting a little surprise today for TGC, hopefully something that the guys are gonna like

I look at it like this.
Let's say two games are equally good...
Both have the same great game play, great graphics, great sound, and so on and so on...

But one has joystick control and the other does not.
Which one wins?
I would say the one with the joystick option.

And it is of my opinion, that is really what TGC is looking for, a game being as close to comercial quality you can get it.
They want these games so they can show off their product.

So if a game has joystick control, plus an option screen to configure the joystick, that has got to be impressive.
I know it is to me.

Ok, finally finished reading all this mumbo jumbo you people call "posts"

greenlig: Nice......real cute, but Van B said it all right there.

Liquidz: Maybe you could have chosen a better quote? One like "Comments and Criticism have one difference. One suggests ways to make it better." So if there are no suggestions then it's not "Constructive Criticism" It would be flat out "Criticism"

Raven: ..... *hands him some Ridalin(sp)*

Randi: Please refrain from posting pics of your game, I don't want to have my spirits broken this early in the compo

plsytire i know your new so i'll keep this as pleasent as i can... but it'd be wise to keep out of things.
Especially things that consern me or making comments towards me.

Riddelin is used on children to control levels of something which can make them hyper and cause A.D.D.
i'm niether a child not lack of focus here, nor am i even close to being pent up at the moment - i believe the saying that's been used before is "don't poke the bear, if you don't want to get bitten"

which has been used quite a few time to people who feel they want to make a comment towards me or get in the middle of something.

.. .. ..

and why shouldn't Randi post a screenshot?
she's about one of the only people here who can very quickly develop work into something tangeable, can make controls very responsive and playable even on slower running computers not running a specific FPS - and has made so far 2 very stable and enjoyable peices within the past 12months.

really to be honest her and Van are about the only people which can warrent screenshots of thier work prior to release around here

-- -- --

Toady, i'll email you from my personal AOL account - the one i have on here is my family one (which i don't really check anymore) it should be pretty stable to send to ... or you can send to my msn one.
got me curious to what you wanted now

have to send you a copy of what i'm working on when i get something working finished - the system keeps resetting but i think i've finished most of the design, just a case of coding it now.
But i'll need a good few people for a "stress" test

It's pretty sad that the truth has become flamebait... I didn't insult anybody in that post. I dont see why it was removed. It wasn't as bad as some of the other posts either! in fact it was completely legit.

Oh well, why even bother.

@ Ian M - I question your judgement on that one... because if your going to delete those post's that are off topic, why not delete the rest of the posts that are off topic?

Those posts were deleted because they were a deliberate attempt to provoke a reaction. We've just recently gone though a flaming session - I don't think that we want another.

The alternative was to lock this post, but I didn't want to penalise the people who are contributing constructively to this thread.

So... why wasn't mine and Ravens fight deleted.... each of our post's were delebrate at each other, and i know Indi made a post in some topic that was quite delebrate at Raven.... So are you saying that Grim gets less treatment then i do. His post wasn't all that bad.

Mine and his bad post's were on that nice lil topic at RGT.. oh that was a fun time...

oki i know i'm not entirely sober but, wanna post something.
why do only a few guys need to always be jerks?

that aside, Randi i'll catch you on yahoo later ... hopefully my system will co-op til then finally send the model as aol doesn't like your email addy's ... keep sending me the model back

... .. ...

Ian best just to leave them to whatever they want mate, i reckon most of its cause they're bored lil teens who just want thier point across by whatever means.
not being funny guys but Teen (who isn't a jock) + Girl = Village Idiot ... we've all been 16, been around a girl and made a complete tit of ourselves thinking we're trying to be all like swave and other grown up crap - when really we're just being embarrasing tits.
C'mon i mean who hasn't been slightly pissed thinking they're being romantic as hell just to find out the next day what they actually did was throw up against a wall and try to burp some girls name.

Its not a nice picture to remember or to have a girl see, but it happens - part of being a teen matey (most guys in college still act like that, you'll find you get laid more if you put down the bottle of scotch )
