If Dexon ever entered these compos, they'd have them in the bag. Assume I won't enter, unless by some chance I do, because that way I wouldn't be lying, you would

the best thing would be for the people entering to give their models out for free, in .X formath, as it would help the community a lot^^ i believe boss models are missing

Ummm this Contest is an interesting one. I did some sketches but they came out to weak for a Boss type character so I guess I'll start over. Here is one of them.

same here woolfxD i need some fresh ideas, i tried a zombie sort of like Tank from L4D2, but no... too original, i tried a giant monster alike to the tank, but with less brains and bigger muscles, but no, too small too original too...

booring.

i need something fresh, nothing "looks like that but...." i would rather have something new, fresh, cool....

Hahaha I know exactly what you mean Quik that was my first sketch. It was very L4D tankish. But I was going to put some kind of effect in the abdomen area to make it like something was going to control it but in the end I had to drop it before I got to far with it.

I'll add the sketch to that one too.

Well, I appreciate the crit, but I don't really know how to interpret your paint-over. Anyhoo, I just did a bit of research on large lizards, and I realize that the nostrils should be more in front and less circular. Also, the head isn't really that wide in the back. That screenie was of an orthographic projection.

i think ill change him a bit still tho, i want him to look a bit more "biff" and tough looking. Tell me what u think (gonna post it in my thread aswell, so u can probably critt there istead of spamming here)

edit: i noticed the pic was pretty big, so i attached it istead

That's looking pretty good. I'm terrible at sculpting. I always go for polygon modelling.

Was this done in ZBrush? I thought you were mainly a Max guy.

Asteric I think he looks pretty good but there's not enough lip definition, it looks like it goes from kin into the inside of his mouth, seperate the skin from the lips a little bit.

Seems like a fare few are doing sculpts for next gen style models. So I think I'll do the direct opposite and go old school PSone style graphics.

Hehe, I wouldn't expect anything less from you Neodelito. In all honestly, anyone can do a sculpt, it takes a true artist to do low poly.

even sculpts still need a great low poly to bake to for gaming. low poly is as much needed as ever it was

it truly does. its all poly management using as little in one area to make the most of the next.

Edit 1
i soo have my boss monster concept ready. planin to do a mostly low poly. to make the model simpler to make in most areas(no worries i'll expend to make him BA)

a little teaser for the base body(yea its a boss in lineage 2)

http://l2vault.ign.com/images/content/c2update/baium.jpg

Edit 2

so that's all i'll be posting in here if you wanna follow me go to my models thread. were all further updates will be located.

Wait, are you guys saying that all of the great Epic Games artists that did characters for gears and so on arent as good as low poly artists?

Sculpting anything is easy, sculpting something right is another matter.

http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73020

^ Is a truly amazing piece of art. Of course i plan to bake it onto the low poly aswell, which is an art in itself to do properly

Yes, that is what I'm saying.

Though I do agree, it still takes talent to create good sculpts, I'm just saying anyone can sculpt while not everyone can create proper low poly.

Doing more with less is always harder, no matter what the task. sculpting is easier to get nicer effects, low polying and getting the equilent effects is just astronomically harder. Relies more on the artist ability to manage the detail and what can be done using the texture.

At a guess ill be hitting 2.5-3k with my entry due to its 'surprise'

To a certain degree, but there is a lot of work that HP artists do aswell, like nailing every detail spot on. Or getting anatomy and silhouette correct, that is incredibly hard, the only thing i ever found challenging with low poly was the texturing, but that can be said for a high poly object too.
