Looking good mazz, the face is not looking so great though, i think an end game boss should be a real mean guy, maybe some sort of circular, toothed mouth that can extend out to rip off limbs etc?

I think he would look much more scary with a human face, either female or a baby face.

Yeah thanks, this one is MUCH better

Nice progress Woolfman, but it looks like that he would fall over, as all of the legs are towards the front, not supporting dat ass! much

Yeah I made it spread out to rig it easier. I'm actually going to be using this guy.

I know it's kind of dark but I'll post some lighter ones when I make it low poly.

Been messing with the colour scheme a bit, i like this one, makes it more liek what you find with the most deadliest creatures on earth, attractive but deadly.

Well here are the lower poly shots. 1.9mil to 4k. Now on to animating it.

It's kind of a mutant spider. Mix of a spider and a beetle.

Truly... Tis' epic.

Great job as always Asteric. If I could just say one thing, it would be to add several layers of tentacles and multiple varied-sized eyes. But how it is now is truly great.

Im only wanting one eye, the big one on top, the weak spot on the boss, and thats why it has those mini-tentacles to protect it.

Alright, started my competition models. Since there seems to be a lot of higher poly models being built I thought I'd mix it up a bit and lay down some super low poly models that you'd have seen in games 15 years ago. Get ready to be owned, old school style!

Basically I'm going to make a fake 'in-game' screenshot of a typical j-rpg ending boss fight. Uber-armored epic weapon wielding heroin battling strangely and enormously mutated boss.

My goals:
-heroin model under 500 tris
-end boss under 800 tris
-256x256 texture sheet for each
-mock-up rpg game layout(mid attack screen)

Heroin WIP:

Asteric, and I don't mean to hurt your chances in this comp, but the coloring on that Kraken model makes it look so exotic... something that you'd have expected to see in Avatar if they went prolonged underwater... Otherwise I must say, the detail is breathtaking. I'm pretty impressed with the organic work of all the entries so far, it's all pretty complex stuff!

These entries are looking good!

Here's a general update on the dragon for those who haven't been following my thread.

Hope you like it thus far. I've still got a lot of work.

Here's a quick update from my WIP since I realized that I haven't actually posted in this thread yet. I went back to the high poly and added some more muscle mass. The legs still need work and I'm not real happy with the head but it's shaping up.

I'll get the texture back on after I re-bake the normals.

I don't like singling people out, but Asteric, your art is amazing. Keep up the good work.

So I guess I just did

What poly range are you shooting for the final model? 6-8k is my ballpark guess.

I have a question, does the actual model have to be submitted or can it be just screenshot or video? Sorry, I haven't entered any of the competitions before.

Jingle Fett, strange as it may seem most entries do not upload their models, and that's fine. rule #3 says..

3) 640x480 final rendering size. (a Beauty Shot and multiple angle views are encouraged)

When we don't have a model to 'examine' it really would help if multiple views are posted. It helps us to determine the 3D Best Model award/Badge.

I hope this clears it up, Cheers!

Ok, thanks for clearing that up! I've got a turntable video of it and I'll be uploading it to youtube soon, so I'll include that with my entry. It just so happens that I was making mine for the game I'm working on (and for my portfolio), wasn't even thinking of entering it but since the timing is right, we'll see how things turn out.

jingle i think part of it is due to that the comp isn't limited to any specific program. and so some programs could potentially restrict being able to provide a model to examine for what ever reason but could provide an image.
