Actally, if you look at the ground when running you are running quite fast.

It just appears that you're slow. Hopefully when I get trees in etc. it'll look better.

played the demo, it ran a little slow (but playable) on my machine. looking very good so far, you seem to have the basic game infrastructure all set up. I like the little comments on the screen, makes it feel like a true FPS

What size textures are you using btw? Just out of interest because I find texturing usually slows things down quite a lot.

On the terrain, a 256x256 texture.

All the character models are 64x64, the guns I scaled up to 256x256.

And that's about all that was textured

I must say, it looks pretty cool... Not to mention that flamethrower! But the zip is corrupted, and my DSL seems to be giving me trouble... Like 4k per second trouble Nonetheless, I'm trying again... Looks to good to pass up, even with 4k...

If the zip is corrupted, chances are that you didn't download the whole thing.
Others have managed to play it, so that rules out it being a dodgy zip

Hmmph. I've downloaded this thing five times now, and it STILL won't work! Each time I get a "Unexpcted end of zip archive." btw, I'm using WinRAR instead of the unzipper included with windows. I don't think that's the prob, but... Guess I'll try again, and this time I'll try using the default unzipper. Maybe I'll cut out the download manager, as well... That's caused probs before. Anyways, here goes...

OH and btw, with 3DS, theres already made trees you can just export and stuff, thats right into the right side bar under an option and you can morph it and all that stuff.
(Don't know what kind of models you use though...)

I'm using mostly .x models (don't have 3Ds).

As I've said before, I'm getting TreeMagik Pro as forum header prize (they're certainly taking their time getting the prizes out, 3 WEEKS its been). Once I've got that expect to se alot of trees!

Sounds like it's cutting out half way through. My server has to reset every hour (so I'm told) to clear up resources etc. left over otherwise it'd ground to a halt. So if you do have a download resumer I recommend that. If you have a 24Mb zip it's okay. If you don't it not

i like the new rocket launcher, you can take out 3 in one shot. how ever the water isnt visable on my computer untill your in it.and you can still fall of the edges of the map.

It does say on my site that that's a bug waiting to be resolved

Yes, the water is a bit bright. But it's what happens with ghosted objects, very annoying

If it's < 32,868 kB then try again something went wrong on your end.

Here's some feedback for your website... in darkbasic section, where you have known bugs, in the bug where you say "You can walk of the world"

off, is actually spelled with 2 f's not one...

Alies Uber The Munchkins!

I finally got it d/l. Looks wayyyyyy good, especialy considering you havn't been working on it very long. There's still a lot of shine to add, though

Like game wiz said, you couldn't see the water untill you fell in it, but seem to have fixed that now. The position of the weapons is a bit of kilter, though, and that needs some fixin. The GL for one is wayyyy too high. Oh yeah, and you might want to add some more realistic gravity. It feels like you're floating down instead of falling down. You really ought to add some shooting animations, as well. It's kinda disconserting to see a Medium Munchkin just floating towards you, and while you stare in wonder, your health goes steadilly down The bots also seem to get stuck on the terrain, so they're just a runnin but they ain't a go'in

The bigest thing you need is some muzzle flashes: if you don't have the speakers on, you can't even tell you're shooting untill they fall down, lol. Oh yeah, and the rocket launcher flames should be more smoky. When I first played the game, I couldn't figure out why the flamethrower flames were going so far Speaking of the flamethrower flames, they don't seem 3Dish enough; there's somthing... odd about them

I know it seems I'm kinda nitpicky here , but some of those things will really add a lot to the gameplay. And belive me, I know how hard it is to be a lone developer Even with the help of DBP and DM2

btw, grandla, I had the same problem as you. I think I d/l that file 6 times before I got it right The trick is to d/l it maybe 15 minutes after the hour, then the file transfer woln't be interrupted by the refreshing of the server. If that doesn't work, try d/l it at diffrent times, i.e. d/l at 12:00, then 12:15, then 15:30, etc. etc. Eventually you'll get it. I think...

Anyways, looks real good! Keep it up, by all means... (I swear, somtimes I wish I could do what you are doing... )

More ideas, only these are abit eaiser to inplement

The sniper rifle has too few shots, you need to give it more along the lines of 20 shots. You need some automatic reloading too... nothing more annoying then having to hit "R" before each shotgun blast. It would also kill that even more annoying bit when you have to hit "R" for each weapon before you can really start to play. Also, you need some weapon/ammo crates. There's pleny of health crates, but no ammo

There's a bug involving using the "F" key to see the scores. It seems if you are moving fowards while you hold F down, and then release the up key and then hit F again, you zoom about 3/4 the map length. Kinda fun (hehe), but you almost always fall off the map. Oh yeah, and another thing. The physics for the strafe left/right thingee is off. You can zoom up from the inside of the "death pit" level in <10 secs. (What?!! What are you talking about!?! It isn't a bug, it's a feature! lol.)

The swinging/swaying/recoil of the weapons is a bit off as well. The swinging/swaying should be slower and have a bit more up and down to it. And the recoil is kinda slow, it looks like you're firing a automatic peashooter I also think the recoil for the semi-auto weps needs to come up and across. Yeah, that would look cool

Oh, just remembered this. The shooting sfx should'nt be stopped when you release the mouse button for the semi-automatic weapons. (now the colt really sounds like a peashooter )

btw, if you want a good excample of swaying/recoil, try the OPERATION GENOCIDE game (it was in the alienware comp) It slows down quite abit at times, and the levels are plain, but it's still kinda fun

Let me retry the game here...

After Retrying: WOOHOO! DUDE YOU ROCK! I was getting like constant 18-24 FPS!!! (And even in the 30s underwater!)

And dude! The game is FUN FUN FUN! Although I want more ammo! And I spawned outside the map...
And why is it that when you have a single Colt, you get 11 shots and when you got dual, you still only get 11?
I found a glitch but I forgot what it was because of the fun I was having lol!

Okay there's a lot to reply to here and it's hard to type well with a laptop keyboard, so in brief:

- muzzle flashed coming soon
- bug in DBPro is making flames looks weird
- the fast walking up the side of mountains is weird, will be changed
- the fast walking after pausing to view scores is, as explained earlier, a bug and will be fixed
- regarding recoil - it may be dodgy but I like it
- regarding the number of shots a colt has - it's lazy coding :p

Ok I got a few comments ^_^

1) Did you program in a Dungeons & Dragons plugin (Invisiblity Cloak or Floating spell on guns perhaps?), or are the hands just invisible

2) Did you use Geoscape? Those terrains are very nice ^_^

3) Crosshair is a bit hard to see at times, perhaps a nice bright red of some sort?

I think most else has been mentioned. Looking great, keep up the good work ^_^

A little sneak peek at the first single player level. I'm probably gonna nick Timesplitter's theme of levels in different time periods.

Here's a rainforest level (without the trees, grr - when I FINALLY get my header prize I'll put the trees in. It's been 4 weeks! :o )



Others I'm considering are cities, dungeons and the obligatory Siberia level from Goldeneye

What's most likely to happen is that I'l release deathmatch mode and the first single player level, go away for a while and recode to support NG and builing, then release the rest. For the time inbetween, I have a very very good idea for an Airline sim.

I'm also very interested in using Walaber's Newton physics in this...

1. Ammo should be reloaded after u respawn.
2. What happened to the old minigun look? or is it only for mission mode?
3. there is a slight delay in one hit kills bfore the death animation
4. There should be muzzle flash
5. when i click to respawn i fire into the ground
6. The sounds play when u fire out of ammo/no ammo in clip

@Hawkeye: Yes I've tried it, but it's a bit too high poly for me. I prefer something a bit more compatible, and I like the style of treemaker trees

Post a screen? Upload the sounds? PS - I removed the old mingun because it was old and didn't really fit into the game too much, and because it was a machine gun model

I have 1.4ghz with geforce2 mx and it stayed at 21 fps. Im not sure if thats how fast its supposed to be but it ran pretty smoothly IMO.

If anybody wants to make some maps for Merc 2 - please feel free!

How?

256 x 256 heightmap image called [yourlevel]_hm.bmp
256 x 256 (or greater) heightmap texture called [yourlevel]_tex.bmp
a text file called [yourlevel].txt with the following contents



You can change the starting co-ords under [Start]. Don't bother changing any of the attributes to enemies, they're overwritten in DM mode anyway. Then drop all 3 of those files into the "levels" dir.

What about the original Mercenaries? Where is that game? And, in case you didn't get my email (I had to use Outlook, and I usually use Yahoo!), I volunteer to help in concept design. Visuals come when I get a decent scanner, but I have some design ideas for you. Email me at isostudios@yahoo.com if you're interested. After all, do you expect to finish this completely alone?

No I haven't got any email on the gmail account yet

I did finish it, but at the time a 13mb zip was wayyyy too big for anybody to download. Shortly after DBPro came out, and I decided to remake it Then patch 4 broke that. Then Terrain commands came out, and once again I set about remaking it.

But I'd welcome any help and ideas. At the moment I'm concentrating on deathmatch, once that's done I want to get some nice vehicle control and missions in there.
