I still am having trouble with the face, still the nose mouth and ears. I can add verts to existing lines but that doesnt help me much, as I'd end up making a frigging grid out of the persons face. I do prefer box modeling myself. That's how I've done everything thus so far. But should I just make her face a high poly 3d grid and fix it after I'm done? (play it out like those neat little drawing grids in the coloring books)

I dont think grids are the way to go with face modelling. Either do it by box modelling...ala http://www.linuxgraphic.org/section3d/blender/pages/didacticiels/head-subsurf/index-ang.html
Once again its blender, but it has concepts and diagrams that would be helpful in all programs.

Blender has been around since 1988.
You can do whatever floats your boat insanity. I think its pretty hard to shape a grid into a face personally, you won't have the verts in the right places. Poly by poly works well, or box modelling. My lady looks a little better now, still have some more stuff to do and i think im gonna change the hair do.

Im sick of Master Chief soo...ooga booga!!

No...I mean making the face very high poly making a "grid like" effect. I'm just saying I'm making more verts for me to work with ON the face by chopping the individual faces and connecting the new verts.

[EDIT] sorry about sig file size, it said file size:not available when I opened it's properties.

Does wings have a normal subdivide tho? One that just adds in more verts? In blender you can just press subdivide and it doubles the verts.

@Ooga booga, didn't catch the date of the first C4D, so its a draw

Subdivision shouldn't change the shape much, it just makes things smoother

It made a square into a "circle" with by using it twice... And its smooth, not sure if it's exactly same as subdivide.

Nah smooth just tries to get rid of the edges, and it may in the process subdivide. IMHO it shouldnt subdivide as well, becuase that eliminates a level of control. Hmm...all the signposts are pointing towards the monkey...suzanne!

well, with hyper nurbs in Cinema 4D (The Cinema 4D term for subdivision as an object) it turns a cube into something sphere like, here, I'll show you want I mean

^^ ur sphere that u made from smoothing cube is what happens with two smooths of my squares. It's a little more blockish when you smooth once though.

They should be relatively the same, but on characters it should have a similar effect to the dude up there and not change the shape much

mainly because making the (softer) lines on a females face are harder than a male who generally has more pronounced feature/lines....

@Manticore, that model isn't my entry, its a character model i was using to show subdivisions with Insanity Complex, because he seemed to be worried about deforming his model, I haven't started my entry yet

[edit]

But what are you insinuating? Maybe we could discuss it in a hot tub and a couple of Margaritas whilst in short shorts and maybe listen to Queen worshipping my freddy Murcury statue

I completely remade my model! I think it looks a lot better but thats just me. Im doing a girl too if you can't tell :p

My bro says he is gonna join! He has never done 3d modelling before except for a couple times under my supervision so he isn't very good :p. But he thinks it will be fun to see how his ends up looking so im installing blender on his comp for him. I guess he will have to make an account here to.

The model looks a lot better now! Great that youve gone for the styleized look rather than the uberreal one. Mouth looks a little bit funny though.

good model!

@DBmad
Lol He looks cool. Like the hair, really stylish! But his face is too wide, and maybe he should be cell-shaded.

@greenlig
Great model! But her face still has some sharp edges.

@OogaBooga
Cool, eyelashes! But there's something about her mouth and nose that scares me... Can't figure out what though. Nicely done though!

@DBmad, see you're still getting the ropes of C4D, but its still stylish

@Greenlig looks great, reminds me of a stressed out single mother
If you really want to join me in the hot tub I'll meet you behind KFC at 6:30 tomorrow
@Ooga Booga, looks great, you and greenlig should have seperate votes to say the best blender user, as you two seem to be on the same level, but it won't happen unfortunately

@Klu I think I know what you mean, the upper lip isn't so level

Well I've managed to make my head look somewhat human and slightly female. All I have now really is the shape though, as I don't want to attempt eyes, ears, or a mouth until the shape is good. I'm absolutely terrified about the hair. If this was for a game it would be much simpler, but I've honestly got no clue as of yet on how to do realistic hair.

I just thought the hair module in C4D would be easier, because you have fast and quick control which is easy to learn.

Anyway, I may forfeit this compo, I really don't want to, but well, A levels is to blame, for any brits out there, don't pick 4 subjects for your a levels, especially if they all require essay writing, you will have no life

I know what u mean Sepuku, anyway heres my entry. Its not great, but I dont think it turned out too bad for my first ever attempt at a human face. Also its done in Milkshape, so i didnt get any of the fancy hair effects or lighting.
