What I suggest is you program Shark Basic in C++. That way, you can truely call it your own, and not worry about legal problems.

I asked mods to avoid all possible problems , but yes , i am thinking about making it ider in c++ or assembly (rosasm) , i`l think it over a little , c is in consideration , too (i love pelles c..) . Anyways , it seems as i`l have to make it in another language , thank`s for warning me on time , sharky is drawed untill i make a remake in other language....

Tapewormz, have you *read* the license agreement?!

It is only illegal to make a programming language with DGSDK. Unless you wrap the DB functions completely (which isn't happening here) then it is 100% legal.

At least bother to read the License Agreement before making comments like that.

I know im a little late...but isnt it just checking a line to see if it's a command and then going to the next line to get the data?
so it's like:

reapeat
read string 1,string$
if string$="print"
read string 1,data$
print data$
endif
until EOF()

(oops, the eof() is EndOfFile in xblite, im not sure what it is in db, but it's the same thing.)

I bet after the command you put a space or something it would'nt work.

I dont really mean to put you down or anything, im just observing, this is probably the best little darkbasic made pl, good luck.

im way too lazy to type anything here...

well , i can`t comment on that , sence shark basic isn`t an open soruce project , but you can write "print to screen " and many spaces as you want it will work offcourse..

And this is not a thread for discussion about how it`s made.

well ok, but as far as what you guys have been talking about, i think it would be perfectly legal to make a dll that parses the code, and just use db for all the 3d and stuff, wouldnt it? well im not sure. Check out xblite, its a great programming language, it's based on basic, but it's way faster, sometimes faster than c.

im way too lazy to type anything here...

Yes I did. It's also important to note that they reserve the right to ammend their agreements at anytime. So doing any of this without consulting them, and getting written permission of some sort is grounds for trouble.

POSSIBLY COMMING UP AFTER SHARK BASIC IS FINISHED (v2.0 to be exact)

: A small very easy to use application in witch you can very easily creat YOUR OWN PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE based on shark basic`s language , only thing you will need to do is to write in your language (easily) and , i will probably include a small help writer so you can make your whole language simply.. (but this is only a possibility , it is possible that i don`t do it as well.)

well , whatever you want... (i`l see...)

p.s. i`m now working hard on shark basic v1.0 as i said befoure , it should really be as more complete as possible , and i`m now working on making it able to "create" .exe`s (it wont realy write them , but you will be able to save your project as .exe file !) - but that will take much of my time..

I have an idea for the exe file. You could make the runtime file the exe, and just have the code with the runtime file. You could rename the runtime to the game name, and the code to like, code, and that is the name the runtime opens, and it would work with the two files and media. If you know how to pack the media into the exe, then great, and you could do that.

I know how to make the exe file , thanks.

Here`s my idea : When you click on create exe , it ask`s you for the name , then it makes new folder (or at the start , your projects folder) copy rountime.exe and paste it there and rename it to nameyouentered.exe and also copy one dll file witch containes decripted script for the exe to do... (like in quikly game pro - i think...)

and for the media , unfortinatly it would be ileggal to change that .exe file and pack anything into it (i know , it would be great if it could pack all into one .exe file , but sorry...)

But be careful... you never know. One day you might be sitting innocently at your desk, making a DB program when suddenly... *CHOMP!*. The "Basic Shark" will sneak up behind you and devour you & your program.

Did you ask permission from TGC? You can't assume anything... I'm not going to assume that it's illegal anymore, but you shouldn't assume that it is legal. The best thing to do is email them and ask. If you're not willing to do that, then you're obviously worried that there may be a problem.

Oh, no. Stop using avatars used by others in this forum!! AARRGGHH! Its so annoying. First, I thought you were TDK, then, I thought you were The Nerd. Its really confusing... Can you please use a different avatar?

Hey where has TDK been, anyway?

Also, I don't think it would be a good idea to try to compete with DB, when part of your compiler is made in DB!!!

haha, i said that`s a joke to dbnewbie , i know it`s not close..

Quote: "Hey where has TDK been, anyway?"

i don`t know , is he back ?

p.s. A POSSIBILITY THAT MIGHT HEPPEN TO SHARK BASIC :
Full rewrite from a pointless "basic" language to a basic language with lower features , but with a normal sintax like :

Maximum power of it in that case would be OPEN GL V1.0 3d options (possibility to create matrix and stuff , but harder then in db , possibility to WRITE support for a 3d model format IN IT ).
(but you WOULD be able to write 2d games ,3d demos and maby eaven games)

In that case it would be based on Basic4gl`s engine in co-operation with Tom Mulgrew .

(that`s just a thought..)

thans for offer i`m doing fine...

but you COULD give me an example .exe or whatever i can run without compiler (my visual c++ doesn`t compile last few monts for some reason...) anyways i would like to see your compiler , not source , just to see it compiles like print "hello" or something similiar to hello , i`m sure you finished a printing command by now...right ?
