Each model is very low polycount. But as you can see, it's the real-time management of those low-polygon models together that makes the scene. In one shot up there, you can see there is over 88k polygons! I've gotten it well over 100k polygons. That's pretty high!

For example; instead of four 25k polygon model, we have 1000's of 25 polygon models. Same thing in the end, but with this system, we can update the polygons in a real time basis, hiding ones we don't need, reusing ones that are off screen, switching a lit model out for a shadowed one, etc.

Thanks!

You have done several things since the last time I have looked at it. Keep it up.

Here's some more eye-candy. Also, the AI is coming along. When done, AI will basically be a simple matter of supplying an object, a bit of information, and the code will take care of the rest, to include automatically placing the AI (either in a specified location, or a specified area).

And here is an example of the script for the AI Entities (a.k.a. Agents).

Rii - yes, the trees do look very good. I also had a chance to take a look at the newly inspired (oblivion?) roadwork you did as well as the newer brush that is dark in the distance and light as you came closer with the dynamic distance loading work. That was pretty impressive, however many of the objects would flicker on and off in the distance while standing still. I figure this must be due to a slightly inaccurate float somewhere. All in all looked good though. You have offered me a few interesting ideas and above all inspiration. Good work

I just finished The Ai Editor for the Project. It uses RiiDii's Ai code and format -
http://forum.openmmo.co.uk/index.php?topic=401.msg4194#msg4194

The Ai Editor will make an Ai entity which can be used for the game.

The Ai Editor can be downloaded here - http://forum.thegamecreators.com/xt/xt_apollo_download.php?i=940707

Or if you want the code its here - http://forum.openmmo.co.uk/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=431.0;attach=1490

Here is a screenshot of it

In the Ai Editor everything is called an agent.

You can set an agents type, name, health base, attack base, defense base, ect.

You can load the agents model and agents LOD image and you can view them in the two screens under the title.

Test it and tell me how it is and what I should add.

Thansk for all the comments! Really inspiring!

Quote: "Is there a way I can just download the folder with everything in it?"

Go here:

Welcome Page

Then follow the instructions immediately under the heading "
Getting latest code/media:"

It's a bit of work the first download and will take some time. But after the first time you download the demo, the updates are the only things downloaded, so you don't have to to download everything each time there is an update.

While you are there, register and say "hi" on our Newcomers Welcome page. We promise not to bite (unless you ask us to ).

Demo updated. See the previous post on how to download. Combat and looting and inventory and a whole bunch of stuffs have been reintegrated.

Important note: Want to make your own RPG? Don't like our world? That's perfectly fine. Most of the world is scripted so anyone can easily change the game as desired - without coding. Want to know how? You can ask here, or sign up on our site and ask there.

It is, but they took it from Psionic, who posted it here. His web site is here http://www.psionic3d.co.uk/news.php. It is a free model with 17 animations and two different skins. I guess that's why it's so commonly used (abused?) in DBP. Really good model. It is an excellent choice for this project until they get some other models ready.

@ Tinkergirl: Thanks - and yes, it makes a difference. We are now working on making the buttons actually do things.

@Gil: Not much more than that right now. You can fight things and collect inventory items. As we add in skills, there will be more to do. Once a few skills are in place, we will be working on quests.

@DB user 2006+: We have models, but we need animations for those models. We currently are in need of an animator, but we will not be worried about that until the core engine is in place for a solid game construction code.

Right now, Nevereverend on our team is working on putting together the zone that will be used for the demo. This will have a lot more content and story to it (as of now, we are only throwing things into the zone to test them out). What is great about Nev putting together everything is that he is not a coder, and more importantly - he does not have DBPro. This means that just about anyone can put together a world using this engine!

@ Cash Curtis II: Thanks!

Left click on a critter to target it. Left Control Key to start combat (or the HUD combat button is now working). Once you've killed the critter, right click to loot. The corpse will disappear. If you found something, a message will be displayed in the spam box, and the item is automatically added to your inventory.

By the way, there is a new update on the SVN (maybe a few if you haven't checked up for a while). I played around with adding a hedge maze. Also, not so noticable, the skills have now been added. Combat is no longer a place-holder code, it is now a definable scripted skill. Oh, and sky has been added in for TDP.

Don't have the SVN yet? Click here for the instructions on how to get it. http://forum.openmmo.co.uk/index.php?topic=153.0

I know I should be posting on the site's forums, just being a bit lazy. Im kind of bored, not tired enough to sleep, so I figure if you guys want I could throw together some models for the game and zip em up/post em here or maybe on the forums tommorrow. Ill be creating random stuff but post anything you'd like and Ill have a go at it, Im no pro but they should atleast serve as decent place holders.

<EDIT>

Castle Wall thing;

270 Polygons

<EDIT 2>

Too tired, goin to sleep. Ill just add screenies to this post of model progress if I make more, if I make enough Ill zip em up and add for download.

Cool castle wall Ruccus. Can you make it in square sections? The placement and collision systems work better with smaller objects. Also, then the zone designer can make the wall lengths any size desired.

Gil: Yep. Just right click on the folder, then select SVN Update. The files will download, updating the files on your pc. Speaking of which; there are a few more updates which include a search skill (press the 'eye' button on the hud), the Main Menu is back in again, and now we have our intro story board. It needs some work, but it's not half bad; check it out.

Absolutely. Media is our largest need right now, especially an animator.

The demo is nearly done. Once it's done, we start on the full RPG game. We will want to create a lot of content for the full RPG. We will also need more code; particularly coding skill categories using our skills system (a skill category can handle lots of individual and unique skills, but are grouped based on functionality. For example; skills that create a product can all be scripted using a single skill category).

Quote: "I did notice that it said "searching..." when I clicked the eye, but I couldn't figure out what it was searching"

Right now it is a pretty simple search. If you look around, you might find some plants that you can attack and loot (basically like harvesting). The herbivores go around to get these plants as well, so you might find them around the herbivores. They are very difficult to see (and the bunnies are tough to see as well). If you hit the search button and and there is an agent in the area, you will see the name fash breifly on the screen in a dark blue. While it is not to usefull at the moment, there will be quests that require the pc to collect herbs from plants or rabbit meat. The search skill will be very usefull then too. We are also thinking of slightly more devious uses for search as well, such as carnivorous plants that you may not notice the difference unless you 'search' first. The name of the plant might give the plant type away.

Updates. Window and full screen mode available now. I switched back and forth to show the differences. The main reason we added windowed mode is it helps on FPS.

Here's some screenies!

Our Intro-Storyboard, with music.

Starting the game in windowed mode. Notice our wonderful HUD and spam box.

Switched to Full Screen mode. HUD and Spam box still there.

Walking around on collidable objects, such as this bridge. Have the inventory screen open.

Walking in a collidable object, a guard shack.

Walking in a collidable group of objects, a hedge maze.

Killed a cow and looted a cow bone. Showing off the spam box and the inventory description feature.

A Rox Lizard. AI carnivore that will only attack when hungry (or attacked). Otherwise it leaves you alone.

A nice shadey road. Nothing new, but I still like it.

Nice field of flowers. This picture does not do it justice. You have to experience this in the demo. The flowers sway in the breeze, and you can almost catch hayfever if you are not careful.

And last but not least, underwater. No swmmming yet.

HUD Buttons that work (numbered from left to right):
1 = Attack
3 = Search
4 = Inventory
10 = Exit
11 = FullScreen On/Off
12 = Hide Hud (press [F12] to show the HUD)

Want to give it a try? Follow the instructions here to download the game:
