The site is built using Simple Machines Forum 1.1 (www.simplemachines.com) TinyPortal hack for SMF (www.tinyportal.net) SMF gallery hack; and then large amounts of my own code, modifications and tweaks that I've accrued from working with SMF since beta.

I edit in Dreamweaver 8 and Photoshop CS2; and it's all tested on my own local server, and then stored on the Vectra Media servers, which I own.

Hope I haven't missed any details you might want. As I've said it was a really quick site, I did the whole thing in an hour and quarter; if I was going to put up a proper public site it would be cleanly designed (the current theme is a bit ugly) well laid out. And all the colours used would be in accordance with colour theory.

Peter H, I'll put you in as a "General", basically a global moderator, until I know what your actually doing, be it Coding, Modelling, Texturing, Sound or work as a core member (or something I've forgotten).

that should work for now, since we haven't finalized the core team yet anyway. I'll most likely end up somewhere in the coding department though.

@SirRoss and everyone else new to this project - I thought it was an open source project? Thus it MUST be available as a free download to EVERYONE, at least that what it was way back before, when Hamish started this project, and it should be like that even today. You are somewhat braking the rules of OpenSource code idea hiding main discussion boards and source code from unknown users who might help you, but don't want to bother registering and actively supporting you. You should seriously think about that IMO that is not very good point of yours.

@Oldby
Well, we have no obligation to make it opensource at all, because we never got any of the old code or media.

You do have a good point though if we are going to make it opensource (which i'm pretty sure we are planning)... but right now we are just trying to get it off it's feet, it's not that we are hiding code, it's that we don't have much yet.

Oh I see, I just thought that you retrieved the original code and were secretly coding it.

Btw I was the Sound FX person for the original Blackout. If you need something, just contact me and I might find some spare time for this project too.

thank you for the offer! i am there is a high possibility we could use your help in the future...

really i think we all want it to be open source... if not then at least accessable upon request from DB users or something (to prevent hax0rz )that's all dependent on us actually making something worthwhile of course

Hi, there I've been watching for some time since the beginning. but I have some of the old code/media dated BlackOut_Code_24-2-06 BlackOut_EXE_22-2-06 and BlackOut_Media_19-2-06. I also have the old Tempest_Blackout.rar. If this is what your looking for than give me an email jfarr@bristlebusters.com. Or leave a post (please note I don’t have much time to upload the media etc, plus I only have dial up (I live in the sticks lol). I will upload the code tonight/early in the morning or if for some reason I cant I will upload it when I get back from BS trip. I won’t be back until Saturday so maybe do media asap if you wish. Cheers.... Regards Jesse

I really don't want to sound all negative but... what's with all this "application" and core member business? Isn't this an open-source community project? Sounds like the direction you guys want to go is just grab suggestions from a pool people and code the thing yourselves.

There is a need for a set of core people to give direction for the project, yes, but not a lead positions in anything. Each of the core members should be specialized in a specific area of the game's development; not just to do the work, but to evaluate other people's work and commit them to the SVN/CVS. That's a community project, where ANYONE can write a patch and submit it to be committed to the main database.

I'm saying this because I was originally excited about this project when it was first announced, and now disappointed in the direction this seems to be going. This isn't really a true community development model that I'd thought it would be.

Not a flame or anything, just my two cents.

Maybe I'm being a little too dramatic about this. I kinda tweaked when I saw the "Applications" sub forum to join the "team". I just kinda disagree with all that, and would rather have a community model where people don't really need to sign up for the team, but rather submit a code patch or assets to be subject under evaluation and then committed to the codebase. I just don't see the need of team members, unless they're for specific asset evaluation, for a community project.

This is me, though, and what I consider to be a real community based project. TGC community members probably like it this way more, I dunno.

All in all, though, I'd like to help you guys out later by providing a base AI framework. I'm currently studying neural networks and fuzzy logic and I think DBPro would be a good language to experiment on. I will also take a look about on the code if there is anything to improve or add upon.

EDIT: this isn't using the BlackOut source?

EDIT2: okay, I read the first few pages. That is sad, especially since a great deal of work was already done for Blackout. No one had the source at all?

Is this project still running?
If so, I'd like to know what the new website link is
since the normal one doesn't work (at the first post)...

#edit: nvm... I found the site in page 7.

Is there a way to download the game as it is so far? =o
I remember that the old website had a link to the full game + source.

There is currently very little to no progress on this project. I am a member, but I've stopped work on this to finish OODBP, and the other team members have stopped as well. It was decided to start from scratch, so there really is no game right now.If you'd like to download the old build from when Hamish was working on this, I can make that available.

I plan to start working on this once again when I finally finish OODBP. If you'd like to join the team, just post on the forums and let us know.

Ehm, if you have msn, contact me there, or just leave a post here =)

I've been very busy with real life lately, but not without continuing work on coding for these projects. My main focus continues to the be the Open MMORPG project. Right now, I am working intensely on a structured set of tools that will be key to finishing the Open MMORPG project in the long run. These tools will be shared with the Open FPS project.

One feature of these tools is a new coding concept/utility that is currently being kept under wraps. So, it may seem like little or no progress. But there is a lot of work going on (more work than talk right now).
