Sorry guys!

I went to Sydney for the day, and got stuck there for 4 because of Bush Fires blocking the train-tracks
With nothing else to do, and no readily accessable computers, we just got really really drunk

Would being a mod involve having a big knowledge of Drupal or any other language other than HTML or would it be straightforward like editing posts on this forum?

I was thinking about possibly being a mod on the site but if it involves knowing a lot about drupal I won't consider the role too much.

I agree with what nicholas said... it won't be a fun job, but it'll be a job that some of us will end up having to do. I want to do it mostly for experience, I could take lessons from being a mod in the webring and apply those experiences to moderating the forum on my own site (provided it starts getting human visitors someday, lol). Also, I feel like it's my duty to do it because I haven't contributed anything to the technical aspects of the webring, so in a way, moderating would at least keep me actively involved in its future

Um... I don't know what idea you have of Moderation, but the extent we'll have to do any work is simply doing a quick 2-minute browse over an edit or post for maybe a total of about 20 sites initially, then gradually there-after.

If there was even only one of us, the whole process would only take around 5 or 10 minutes a week at the most

Having only one is a bad idea.
What if they go MIA, can't access a PC, don't have time, etc, etc.

Then there's the issue of time-zones. It's always better to have at least two people from different sides of the globe so it's sort-of a 24hr watch.

As I said, it only takes a minute, but the faster we can spare that minute, the happier the users

Well if I'm going to be a mod, I'd really like it if Jess would be one to. I have a lot to learn about this stuff and Jess is a seasoned TGC moderator whose been involved with the webring since its creation, so if I may, I'd like to suggest Jess be a moderator as well, unless you're too busy (I know you have a lot going on this year and might not have a lot of free time)... figured it was worth asking. But I definitely think we should have more than one moderator for the previously-mentioned reasons. A lot of unpredictable things can pop up and render one person incapable of performing their job. If one of us were to lose the net, or their PC were to catch fire, or one of us were abducted by aliens (hey, just covering all the bases here), the other mod could step in to keep things working.

My girlfriend is originally from Spokane Washington, until I got her to move out here to the east coast. Anyway, back on subject...

The easier the better. I know Jess has a lot going on this year, I have six games to release by the end of 2007, and I'm not sure how much Dabip has going on but I'll just assume he'll be busy too, so I think having three would definitely make things work out well. But then I have no experience moderating so I could be wrong here. But it *seems* to make sense, hehe.

3 would be easier than 1 or 2 - if there is good communication... but the point is, there wont NEED to be more than 1 unless there is a constant flow of incoming links.

Yeah, I'm sure we'll mostly sit around and look at other people's sites, but my motto tends to be "better safe than sorry." I can see a bad event rendering one, maybe even two of us incapable of moderating the site, but all three? Highly unlikely.

Eh, they can't be much worse than my site, lol. Oh, before I forget, if anyone gets a chance, I changed the font and word coloring on my site, and I truncated several news items, all of which several people suggested, let me know if it works or if I just made it more of an eyesore, hehe.

Not a new thread, but I bring it up a lot in other people's threads, and link to this thread. I didn't know if it would be alright for me to post a whole other thread about this topic when we already have this one going. I super-touted the webring in a thread about selling FPSC games, pointing out that it already has driven up hits for some of us and that it's a great marketing tool
