Ok, Remember that all "levels" are towns. We could have a few forest levels for in between the towns, when the characters get ambushed!

Here's an idea: following on from your "character maker" idea, why don't we make one basic man and then use all different parts to customise the three heroes at the start (the character maker), and then make wizard clothing and knights armour which you can buy later, so you choose what your character becomes: a warrior or wizard.
The different clothing could have different "capacities": wizard robes have more magic "slots", while armour has more fighting "slots".
Then by gaining experience your character increases his skills until he has filled his available "slots". Changing clothing types would remove all surplus slots

The first level (just rolling plains right now) will have castle Renieil and some shops, an arena(A Place to battle for gold),and an armory, unless you have suggestions?

Oh yeah, Do you Know a User by the name of Animation? He can draw real well and I know him.

No I don't know him, see if he's interested though
I would like a stable, weapons shop, armour shop and an inn (inns for sleeping, food and maybe sub-quests). The arena is a good idea we could have medieval tournaments: jousting, sword fighting, and archery.

Our heroes need these attributes:
* HP - lost through injury, regained through potions, spells and eating.
* Stamina - There are two types of stamina, main stamina and combat stamina. Main stamina drops from travelling between towns, and is increased by resting or spells. Combat stamina drops when you attack, but it will replenish on its own. However, combat stamina can only replenish up to the level of your current main stamina.
* Sword - The character's skill with any sword.
* Bow - the character's skill with any bow.
* Lance - the character's skill with any lance.
* Pike - the character's skill with any pike/halberd/spear.
* Magic - the character's magic skill.

I've changed my mind about the clothing, I don't think they should cap the heroes ability, they should probably increase their ability at that skill.

@Dark Dragon,
I have a great concept u can use. Two humans will be sent to the past and there they would have to find some sacred artifact. In the game there will be mythological creatures and future weapon and technology.Though the game will be based on mythological stuff but it will have a horror touch.

It can be a third person shooter type game. And a lot like alone in the dark.

Visit the link below to know about alone in the dark

phew lol, if you want to be part of this BOOH that'd be cool with me this game is gonna be totally 2D but its gonna have some pretty demanding animation any help would be fantastic

I'm drawing "skeletons" of character and horse animations which I'm gonna do some tests with. They might not be that accurate but it gives an idea of scale.

Are you still working on this? You've posted a couple of things about other games and nothing here. It would be a shame to drop out now, as we have a solid storyline and game idea.

Personally, not trying to be rude, but I don't think this is going to work. I'm sorry, but you're both releatively new (No offense)and these projects very rarely work out. Sorry for being pessimistic.

@ INH
I know what you're getting at, and many of the ideas posted here probably wont make it. But I hope we'll be able to make some sort of game. From what I have seen, I'd say I'm probably a bit more experienced than DD, so part of the reason for me doing this is hopefully the good habits I've picked up from more experienced coders than myself will rub off on him . This game is new territory for me, while DD has made an RPG before, so I'm sure we will both learn a lot.

As you know im a noob when it comes to programming but honestly I think that you guys should start smaller if you are going to go with this idea. Instead of having choices on how your character looks... start with a default character who is going to be a type of person the whole way through (like a warrior). I figure you can always add more detail and improve the game once you actually know you have something going rather then getting so many small details in for such an unnecessary part of the game. Well, either way, your choice... I kind of agree with INH .

@DD
Awesome thanks for that
I'm not expecting you to post every hour but I thought I saw some new posts about several other projects?

@Ocean
Customizing the character isn't actually too difficult, it just means more work in paint. And since we are going to make magic-using enemies it won't be much of a push to have the heroes use magic.
You're right about the small details, we're both getting a little carried away.

@DD
The character customisation is going to take a while, I think we should just make basic characters for now, and then you can make a separate character editor which would export the customised character animations to the game folder, that way we can concentrate on the game first, and players will be able to create a whole library of characters.

The main things I want to keep are:
* The medieval theme
* The world map (that you travel from town to town from)
* Horses! (able to lead and ride horses)
* Changeable armour and weapons
* Skill levels for each discipline (don't think this is essential but adds a nice touch)

I think I've changed my mind about the magic (psyenergy), in every medieval game I've played there's always magic! I think it would be nice to make a straight medieval game. What do you think DD?

yeah I argee. most of the other questions you see on other threads are probly old.....
and i think we should wait ,too, on the character customiser.

about the story and the in-game story:
I think the war should be staged on a continent where each coutry is connected so it can be like differant teratories.
(Just a thought)
(Edit)
This is off subject:
donwload the movie here. this is the movie that got me hooked on wrestling. oh yeah and it's NOT GAY!

Wrestling: I have to admit the stuff they do is quite amazing, but it isnt a sport its a staged drama.

I think your continent idea is good and kind of what I was thinking. I want to make little town "icons" that you click on to travel to.
I think it'd look good to draw different territories on the map but I can't see the point in implementing them in the game. Unless you have a reason?

the idea is to have freindly territory to... and as you move to differant ones though, the enemys get smarter and harder. get what i'm saying? also there could be differant kings in the differant countryies. they could choose to side with you or the evil king.

Ah, I get what you meant now. OK well how does this sound:
We have good territories and evil territories on the map (these territories don't really do anything they just represent the divide) then inside the good territories we have good towns and inside the evil we have evil towns.
Good towns would have to be "saved" by killing all the evil warriors in the level, then once completed the king thanks you and says "You are welcome to stay here any time" or something, and some kings may give you special items or gold as a reward.
Evil towns are never safe and you always have to fight through them (if there are armies there).

I don't think the kings should "choose a side" as they would probably already have done this before the war broke out. (This game can't be as political as that lol)

Quote: "the idea is to have freindly territory to... and as you move to differant ones though, the enemys get smarter and harder."

I kinda get what you're saying but that sounds very complicated. How about if the evil king is constantly "training" more soldiers and sending them out in groups of 20 or something.
I know what you're getting at, once you've "saved" a town the threat disappears. I'm not sure my idea is great but we need some way for the danger to come back.

@Dark Dragon: Posting your images as a ".jpg" file instead of a ".bmp" allows the viewer to just click a button to see your picture instead of having to download it. I'd advise this so more people can see your models without having to wait so long

Just make sure the ".jpg" is lowercase.

I'm finding the idea of all the customisation a bit daunting, do you think we should just make a basic game until we get the hang of it?
There could always be a sequel!

This is how i want the game dimensions to look. So when you are making a characters up and down images they are diagonal
