I haven't had time recently and it doesn't look like DD has either.
I'll have something up in the next couple of days.

We are using 2D sprites, but we want to give them 3D collisions; therefore they need depth.
To start off with this means we have to change the way we draw our sprites. Here is an example of how you would draw a house.

2D
[img][/img]
3D
[img][/img]

Why do we need 3D collisions?
Because the screen can only display sprites in two dimensions (X and Y), our third dimension (Z) is going to have to be displayed by altering these two dimensions to give the illusions of depth. However, this means that we could have two sprites that are displayed on the same pixel but are at different positions in our world. Here is an example.
[img][/img]
Character A is standing on the ground and is in line with the door of the house. Character B appears to also be in line with the door but really he is in line with the bottom of the house: he just appears to be in line with the door because his is in the air.

It sort of is, but because our perspective stays the same it's a lot simpler. All the variables we need to do this are the point in 3D space that our object is positioned at, and the object's size. We could include a scaling function so that the further away an object is the smaller it is, but that can be added later.
Our perspective stays at 1:1 (X:Y), meaning that our Z axis is evenly distributed between the X and Y axis, like this:

All you have to do is split the Z between the other two axis.

As for detecting collisions, we would detect normally but when a collision is found we'd check the distance for all 3 axis to see if it really IS colliding.

Does that help?

I'm confused now. Are we making a 3D game in 2D or a 3D game in 3D?
If it's a 3D game in 2D, I'm out. Sorry.

Did someone say 3D scanning on my desk, or was that just an AdBot?

They aren't making either. It's a 2d game but they are adding certain effects to the game to make it appear 3d(Like the scaling of sprites to give the illusion of depth). Also, you can't technically have a 3D game in 2D. The statement is contradictory to itself unless you are refering to the fact that the game is played on a screen that displays the game in a 2d area(Which I hope you aren't). So what you meant is are they making a game using the built in DarkBASIC 3d engine, and the answer is no.

Like luke810 said, this isn't actually 3D, we are just making it appear that the world has depth. I'm sure you've played games that use sprites that look 3D, most old strategy games do. That's all we're doing

Obese,

The ROTATE IMAGE command has to be supported by your graphics card and the angle of rotation has to be 90,180, or 270 degrees.

Well I guess my graphics card doesn't support it then
Does that matter if I get DBP?
Can I rotate images in DBP even if my graphics card doesn't support DBC image rotation?

It might work in though, you could download the trial and check if it does.

It's not that his processor is incapable of performing the operation, its that the image rotation isn't supported by his current graphics card.

You need to first host the image online, I recomend mediafire, then put the exact url of the image into the avatar bit in your profile changer.

I drew him from images of different pieces of armour so I might not have put it all together well.

I thought of a good idea for a spell system. All spells are made up of a combination of the four elements Earth, Air, Fire and Water.
The wizard starts off only being able to use one element at a time, but as he learns he gains "slots" (up to four) and can use different combinations of the elements to cast stronger spells.

Earth:
Dry - solidity, form
Cool - joining, mixing
Earth represents essentially inert matter (because of the dominance of Dryness); it is primarily fixed, whereas all the other Elements have some mobility. Thus Earth corresponds to the material body of living things, which must be animated by the other Elements in order to be alive.

Water:

more here: http://www.cs.utk.edu/~Mclennan/BA/AGEDE/Water.html

I was thinking that at the beginning of the game each character would have to complete their own trials before being selected for the quest, this would be a good situation for a tutorial on how to play.
My idea of the game now is that it is one player, but all three characters have individual skills. It is up to the player when to uses which character. There will be certain challenges that can only be completed by one character; this is why I think it's a good idea to keep the towns "open" so you can find the best route for your type of play.
What do you make of all that?
