Dude that's totally sweet! If the weather cools down and i can do some coding again, i might find a use for it.

If you want some more object ideas, howabout making some fairy chess pieces? Amazons and elephants and stuff.

Check this page out. It's awesome. There are flash versions of loads of different chess variants here, as wel as descriptions. : http://www.chessvariants.org/Gindex.html

If I were in his position, I wouldnt WANT to make any more chess pieces, sure sounds like a lot of repetitive work

also what do I do with the .rar file the link lead to?

mike5424: Technically I just made a scene with models I've already created. So to stay fair I'm not counting this as a model.

Dr. Tank: Thanks! I might do some variants later down the line. I'm really chessed out right now.

That1Smart Guy: You need winrar to unzip the file, which includes all the media plus .x file and the truespace file.

Cheers!

Edit:

I have a question for everyone. I want to break out and start selling media over the net via: Turbo Squid and TGC Store. I'm wondering what people are looking for in media they need or want for their games. Also if anyone has tips on this topic or have experience in selling media over the net then I would very much like to hear from you.

ok thanks for the winrar advice

is there any way that using only the chess set that I can move the individual pieces, or do I have to go through and download all the individual pieces?

Ah, I just uploaded the scene actually...this is just a compile of all the pieces. You can go into the TS file and export each piece. Don't worry, when I get a chance today I'll do that myself.

something like that needs more polys. the door knocker should at least be more pronounced in the model (if your not going to make it its own part) if your not going to at least bother the add the roundness for the logs, bamboo what ever the roof is made out of. it should be something more believable like straw. were you placed the bolts(nails) could not possibly hold it together.

if nothing else at least change the roof.

he could just turn the img into a normal map to accent the knob and cause the detail you're talking about... or you could. I personally am not on good terms with normals... but in a few days I should have them down (need more tuts)

The shack is actually based off a similar model in WOW. Simple textures with a minimal amount of polys.

I have no reason to have the door handle as a separate object. That's what the texture is for.

Adding more polys to the roof to make it more rounded is just silly. That's what the texture is for. The whole point of textures is to add more detail then is built into the mesh.

I think the model looks fine. It accomplished what I wanted, low polys + effective texture.

There's a reason that the weapon and character packs are most common

Could the normal map for "Erm" be combined with wooden box?

Edit was to add a wink face. I look like a troll without it.

Looks great to me, though I think a good normal map would have helped it. And whatever lives there has a very big step up to get to his front door

What model is "Erm"? I don't re-use textures, I create a new one for each model...no matter how many wood objects I make.

Dr. Parsnips:
Thanks!

thenerd:
That's good to hear. Glad I can inspire.

BMacZero:
It comes with a normal map actually. Also, that bottom section is the foundation. It's large to accommodate for slanted terrain. Ever played Warcraft 3? All their buildings have a foundation that stretches pretty far down in order to keep it connected to the ground and still sit up right.

Well, the mods have been locking a lot of threads recently, with a disclaimer that you might get a slap if you contributed. I'd ask the mod you think did it, why, and justify your case. Then they might get rid of it immediately. That's what I did when I got it once a few years ago.

...frankly I'm afraid I got one for posting twice in that Revenge thread.

Edit: nope, it seems I'm not.

Quote: "it doesn't look like you are, because that post was two minutes after the previous..."

That's when he posted, not when it appeared. It means a mod has to check what the post is and then approve it. It's not like it's posted any later.

Anyways keep it up.

Been working a lot at my real job, so couldn't get anything done. Now that I'm off, time for some crazy modeling. Work will continue regardless of my 'moderation'.

Day 33 / Model 29: RTS Building: Solar Collector

-60 'Triangular' Polygons
-1 Mesh
-1 Texture Map
-1 Normal Map
