Quote: "In no aspect, is anyone's work a piece of garbage. Taking the time to actually write a song and publish it etc, is far better than those that just listen to it and shout insults."

THEN I SHALL ELABORATE

The song is clichéd.
The tune is dull and repetitive.
The way it is sung is boring and same-y.
Publishing a song does not automatically make it a good song. Also, yes, some peoples work is garbage. Just because they've done something doesn't mean it's good, it the same way that just because you've given an answer doesn't mean it's right. (Like how in school these days we tell everyone that they're 'special' and that any answer they give is important, even if it's wrong.)

... That went off on a tangent slightly.

Edit: We're allowed to be harsh to celebrities. It's one of the side effects of being famous. (And I use the term 'famous' quite wrongly)

Edit #2: I don't actually like Beethoven either.

Classical music is cool and all, but I would much rather listen to Taylor Swift. Most of her songs are pretty bad, but I like Love Story and Tear Drops on my Guitar.

Well, I think I've made it clear who I OBjectively think is superior. But SUBjectively I still have to say Beethoven, because I hate the way pop music sounds. It's not as if I particularly like orchestral music (as I've already said, I'm a heavy metal guy, personally) but I can at least stand listening to it. But that's all subjective. Objectively speaking: people are going to be listening to Beethoven long after pop music has gone out of style, because he was a musical genius. He made music that nobody can deny was well written, even if you don't like the way it sounds. What more need be said on the subject?

And what's with all of this talk about her being hot? First of all: I don't think she's that hot. But second of all: even if she were hot, what does that have to do with the music?

And someone mentioned War Pigs. Good song, but I prefer the Sacred Reich version.

I wouldn't be that rude if I were you.
And seriously, the word "boring" is based on opinion. Something fun to you maybe boring to others. My sister finds computers boring, which to me, is not.

We are, they are people just like us, but the thing is, don't just be harsh because you hate them.

Good man.

There's one thing more, that makes him superior in some terms, but more often that not the "not so special" artists show up, which are nothing different than others, and still are loved. That's the thing in this case, Taylor Swift didn't break any barriers here, but I do like her better, simply because I do.

Quote: "And what's with all of this talk about her being hot? First of all: I don't think she's that hot. But second of all: even if she were hot, what does that have to do with the music?"

I didn't say it had anything to do with the music.

By boring, I mean very similar to lots of other music these days, with little variation in a common theme.

Didn't say it was

I don't hate 'them', that's a huge generalisation. I just dislike some of their work - would you rather I lied and said I thought it was good, even if I hated it?

That's just 'cuz you don't have the skills to be rude and witty at the same time.
I wouldn't call that being rude, just opinionated.

Well aren't you the rude one.
It makes more sense, and is somewhat more reasonable to compare a person's skills, teamwork, cooperation, and such to one another, but it makes no sense at all comparing a country to another.
Well how would you like it if I said, your forum name is neuro fuzzy, and that sucks for you? Wouldn't be so happy would you?

"We are more popular than Jesus" ~ who said this famous line?

Quote: "Taking the time to actually write a song and publish it etc, is far better than those that just listen to it and shout insults."

Many pop singers don't create their own music. Some might write a few words but most are matched with a generic beat the studio spits out without any thought or effort. Pop singers are a dime a dozen, and most ppl only care if the singer is hot and fashionable as that's what really makes them popular.

Quote: "Or Thin Lizzy's Whiskey in the Jar to Metallica's cover."

Oooo that's a tough one. I like originals but I also liked Metallica's cover, fun to play along with.

Quote: "Classical music is cool and all, but I would much rather listen to Taylor Swift. Most of her songs are pretty bad"

Classical music is cool, taylor swift is bad, but you prefer swift? Umm alright, on that logical note remind me to never take your advice. "Hey buy this car instead, I know its more expensive but at least it breaks down more often!"

I have a poll, of those who vote taylor swift how many of you play musical instruments as compared to the classical fans?
I'm interested to see if there's a correlation.

Who are you to say that she isn't bad? You just like her, that's all. That doesn't make her good. Nor does our opinions make her bad. You seem to be struggling with the concept that not everyone's opinion is the same as yours and that your opinion is the right one. Your opinion is that Taylor Swift is good. Our opinion is that Taylor Swift is bad. Neither one is the right opinion, because it's just opinion. Get over it.

There are two ways to like music: the objective way and the subjective way. The objective way is to appreciate depth and complexity. The subjective way is to like the way it sounds. You can argue about the objective way, but not the subjective way (because it's... well... SUBJECTIVE). What more needs to be said?

Surely 'good' is just an opinion still? 'Talent' and 'skill' on the other hand.

She doesn't have much skill and she doesn't have much talent. Regardless, it doesn't stop her from having people enjoy their music.

I wonder how many people here listen to music that doesn't have much talent to it, yet they enjoy?

I don't think Adriano has any problem with people 'not liking' it, nor thinking her music isn't any good, but I'm sure he doesn't appreciate people telling him that her music is terrible and some people have attacked that opinion. It's not really fair, is it?

Whilst you're entitled to dislike it, he's entitled to like it. So those flaming him for it, take a chill pill - I'm sure Grandma has an appropriate picture for that, if not, then shame on him. Now who here likes hippy music? Why? Because, we need some flower-power for some peace and love (man). Or if that's not that thing, a hand grenade to throw at those hippies, whatever makes you happy in life.

This one...this one is good enough, because one day Arnold Schwarznegger is going to invade Canada, so if you wanted to protect the environment in a less violent non-Captain Planet way, then this image has a recyclable value.

Though I could be talking rubbish, but it's distracted you all, so oh, look who has all of your wallets now? That's right, Thor has.

Or if that's not that thing, a hand grenade to throw at those hippies, whatever makes you happy in life."

Hey thanks for clearing things up, you are right, I don't care much if you don't like it.

Grandma: Nice picture, not sure what the point of it is though.
Is it supposed to me it's me against the world?

I am not saying she's good, or bad, but for him saying it's downright bad doesn't sound right to me. I understand opinions, but half the people that posted don't. They seem to be the one that doesn't understand opinion.

I don't recall anyone questioning your opinions, all we've done is voice our own opinions and you're having a hard time respecting them. If you prefer Swift, that's absolutely fine. Again, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, and I nor anyone else have anything against that. But other people saying Swift is bad is THEIR opinion, which you continually struggle to accept. I think him saying it's downright bad sounds perfectly right to me, not because I agree with him, but because that is his own opinion. I'm sorry if I'm coming off as a flaming jerk, I get defensive when people critizise the bands I like, we all do it. But that's the glory of opinion: everyone has their own. And if someone has the opinion that Taylor Swift is a godawful no-talent, then so be it. It doesn't tread on your opinion or degrade it in anyway, it simply contrasts it.

Ah, didn't see that bit there. I stand by my rant, but it's nice to see some understanding here. Now let's get back to the real matter here: Jonas Brothers suck, right?

Actually, some of their songs are pretty cool to me.

I get mad when someone's saying it's bad, instead of simply saying they don't like it, because saying it's bad, sounds like it's actually speaking for someone else.

Fair enough, but generally people don't like certain music BECAUSE they think it's bad. But yeah, I see your point.

Glad you see it my way, sorry for the outbreak if I was a little loud or rude, or if I caused any misunderstandings because that's what I meant.
