Quote: "Is this crash problem also for DarkBASIC coded games too, or only the GDK?"

I haven't tested DBPro with this, but it is very likely that certain unstability arises.

Quote: "I will test this using beta test feature tomorrow."

@TuPP3, I'm sure it will be very interesting to know how it goes.
Please keep us informed.

I assume that the error exists. Therefore, ONLY for everyone who is submitting independently (without TGC help):

I recommend to avoid using the current appupplugin.dll.
Instead, wait for Lee to publish an oficial revision, or use the one that I attach in this post, if you feel like you are out of time.
Please note that this attached dll is unofficial and unsupported by TGC. Also it only works with production GUIDs (for final releases).
If you already submitted your program with the current appupplugin.dll, then I suggest to email Intel to cancel and re-submit.

Of course, I recommend to anyone able to perform beta testing with the Intel Store, to first test their applications before doing anything else.

Hi Guys,

Thanks to some sterling work by Morcilla, I have uploaded new versions of the DBP and GDK kits that contain the new fixed DLL:

http://files2.thegamecreators.com/appup/AppUpForDarkBasicPro.rar
http://files2.thegamecreators.com/appup/AppUpForDarkGDK.rar

Good luck! Only two full days left before the extended deadline of 15th April so get those apps to Intel before the ship sails

I downloaded my beta test application from AppUp, and ran it from the launch button, seemed to work well atleast for 30minutes.

I don't see why would it quit after the application has already started, even if I pull my network cable it doesn't effect, obviously because my AppUp application code is executed only when the game is started, not during the main loop.

I am guessing that when the protection subsystem was not released cleanly in the old DLL, and then the real-time DLL is yanked from the system, some of the unreleased resources are still floating about which makes for a very unpredictable future!

Hi Guys,

Just to let you know after much back and forthing, the first third party game submitted to us and put through the meat grinder has passed it's validation and is now officially in the AppUp store. Congratulations to the author who shall be famous any minute now For the rest of you, you have at least one and a half solid days left.

So I should update the .dll although my application works well?
What is changed in the updated .dll?
I start repacking now, my game is still pending for submitting so I might aswell reupload the installer.

Do I need to modfiy the application activation again inside DarkBASIC?

Lee,

Have you by any chance replaced the appupplugin dll in my own application?

Quote: "So I should update the .dll although my application works well?"

Well, it is up to you, but I strongly recommend to use the latest version.

Quote: "What is changed in the updated .dll?"

The old version is unstable, and it is not accomplishing Intel specifications, due to unreleased resources.

Quote: "Do I need to modfiy the application activation again inside DarkBASIC?"

Not really. Just packing with the new dll should suffice.

Morcilla, Did you or Lee make any changes to my lib source code for this?

Also, does the lib meet your standards. I didn't have much info to go on.

Mnemonix, no changes on my side.
It is just the 'appupplugin.dll' file the one that has been updated, so I would bet that Lee hasn't changed your libs either.

Your libraries and all the stuff that you published seem rather clever to me. As far as I know it doesn't conflict with Intel policies anyhow.
However I have not used it, since I already integrated what I had before you published it.

Here is screenshots of my 2D shooter.

@Darkvee: Looking pretty good!

@Mnemonix: I wouldn't call myself a genius, but thanks! I'd love to work on more games for the AppUp store, or a similar type of distribution. I've been so busy lately with other work, that I haven't really had time for gamedev. But this project has convinced me that I need to make time, and so I will!

was this AppUp event ONLY meant for March 2010? If so, will there be another one...

Second, I had to give my laptop to my younger brother when I temporarily dropped out of college, sense he's in high school and the laptop was only meant for school use anyway, so IF I can get a "bug free" game going with desired specs, trust me, this computer is literally 10 years old, is it possible to get the AppUp dll or whatever it is on my old, yet moderately updated Dell Dimension 4100, with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and a Creative Sound Blaster Audigey Gamer 24-bit, and just set the resolution to 1024x768 or 800x600? I know I will never exceed the ram of a net book ever sense I started working on selling computers, laptops, and netbooks at Best Buy, because I never really try to exceed the RAM of this computer which is 384 MB of RAM!!! That's LESS than half a Gigabyte!!!!!!!!

Anyway, somebody let me know if this is all possible and if we really do get payed for this, I started to think even with two jobs where I get ~ $1,500.00 / Month total, it would still be nice to have some money to play with, sense my expenses are high.

Thank you for reading...if you did, if you didn't that's O.K. Not EVERYBODY has time to read my life long stories I post around here, I know I tend to go onto a rant...

Nah Mickey, get stuck in making a game for it. The AppUp store is a permanent thing, this competition (although it's really not that) was to stir up some action and get some games onto AppUp and hopefully take advantage of Intels bonus scheme. Intel are bound to have more bonus plans in future.

Once your game is done, you can either contact Rick and see if TGC want to get involved - tightening up graphics, helping with music, testing etc. Or you can submit the game yourself, but also have to do all the dealings and stuff yourself.

I would say that the best possible option is to use 1024x600, that's what Intel prefer, and it looks the best on standard netbooks. It might be worth adding a border depending on the resolution of the PC your developing on, as that way you can see it pixel perfect - if your game is 3D then I'd just set the resolution to the desktop resolution, then set the camera view to 1024x600. Maybe the extra screen space would be good for debug info while developing. I get the impression that Intel want games on the Netbook to be full screen and more like the experience you'd get on a gaming device.

My game is up now too, quite a handsome little stack of games if you search for 'the game creators' - go spend your monies!.

Thanks, Van B, for your encouraging post. The first thing I think I'll do is spiff up my old Atomic Blox game and make it meet the netbook resolution requirements. It's 2D and already done except for a high score table and a menu, but other than that, it should be easy to "kick it up another notch!"

Again, Thank you...

It just ended yesterday 3:00pm(PST) 15. april

Still validation in progress for me...

EDIT: Aww! I just realized that when I updated the appupplugin.dll I had to repack the whole installer again. And I had already submitted my old installer and got rejected beacause of description error. I heard that if I hadn't changed the installer file I'd have already passed the validation after just only fixing the description!
Now i'm back at the installer reviewing.
If I fails now because of the stupid update I'll never forgive myself
There are lots of things in the installer(Directx, merge modules etc.) that requires testing, I made clean Windows 7 install to my laptop for testing purposes, and I haven't tested this new installer with it.

Hi Guys,

A little update from us here. It's been hectic that's for sure! We just heard this week that Goals, Looney, Towers, Netbuko, Tilted Video Poker have been selected for ‘Dollars for Downloads 2010’ and ‘Fast Track 2010’ under the Intel Atom Developer Program Million Dollar Development Fund.

It's still very early days for AppUp. The store is still not being sent out pre-installed on Netbooks. I think Intel will be planning a huge advertising campaign later in the year to build customer awareness and then we should see a big uptake and use of the store.

We're still on the look out for games to publish so please feel free to contact us.

Intel does plan on having it pre-installed on netbooks....
Thats why its in beta phase right now. Its getting all the bugs worked out first....

So now is the time to start developing for it before it gets released and realy gets noticed!

Nah, it's still Beta, so mostly people who know about it already, are involved in it etc are using it. So right now, just a few downloads is good, because that means that when there are a hundred or a thousand times as many people using it, we'll be in good shape. When it's pre-installed on netbooks, that's when we'll see proper uptake.

I've got 11 downloads so far .

QMidi is now approved onto the AppUp store

Speaking with Intel this week it's clear that they have not rolled it out just yet. So it's like we're all waiting for the gun to fire and off we go. As soon as Intel start their consumer marketing of the store and when their partners (ASUS, Dell, Samsung etc) start adding it into every device going, then we will see significant traction.

I was wondering something. I know that DBPro can load and play .ogg files, right? And, since I would like my sounds and musics to be as small as possible, I would convert them all to the .ogg format.
But here's my question: will the notebooks where my game is installed on, be capable of playing those .ogg files? Or do they require a dll to be installed to make that possible?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

The Slayer, I think you should try to ask in a new thread, so more people can answer.
After all, there is no difference between the Windows 7/XP SP3 installed on the netbooks and that on your desktop computer, so any requirement should be the same
