So, I just got a friend to buy the alpha version... NICE!!

Just finished my house and now I'm creating a mine. Finished the shaft and already found 4 diamonds

List to do:

Swimming pool
cart track from house to mine
find those damn dungeons so I can get the records for my jukebox.
Find out how to create a map for my home server

So, whats on your wishing lists?

Edit: oh, and on bad ass zombie thing just blew up the bottom floor of my house.....

Coffeegrunt, the people who torrented the game recommend it to their friend's and then their friends buy it. Plus online only works if you have bought the game.

Bought it last night at around 7pm...started playing...after awhile looked at the clock only to realize it was 4am!

Reset my world a few times, but now I think I have a good understanding of how the game works and got I got a good start on my last reset. Just watching the few videos posted on this thread got me to buy it.

Will post some screens once I'm farther in the game.

Well, I don't know if I'm supposed to post this here, but I still will

My problem is that when I try to set up a lan server for minecraft ( so my 2 brothers can play 2 ) they say on the wiki to verify my java version. But when I type in CMD java -version it says cannot recognize as a function or something like that. So when I try to download java, on the site it says I already have version 6.

Someone knows how to fix this?

Its impossible to pirate minecraft, you have to login to verify that you own the game (every time), otherwise you can't play. So unless some idiot has bought the game and gave his details out as a torrent.

I downloaded it (from the website itself) when the servers were down and the author was providing it for free. I can play whenever I want without even needing to log in. Perhaps this was changed in a more recent version?

are you in windows? If you are, you need to add the java bin folder in your PATH variable, or edit the launcher to the full address to java.exe

I have seen the pirate version first hand myself (A friend of mine in school had it) and it works 100% and its even the 1.2 version which is very new.

Nothing is imposible to share illeagly there is always one, just one who breaks through. Nothing is safe.

@ben, there's two versions, classic and alpha. It sounds like the alpha version does server side authentication.

This game is sweet I'm reformatting my server currently, I'll be setting up a classic server here probably today or tomorrow for us to play on. Alpha server when I get some spare cash to buy it.

Jerico, is that comment pointed to me. Because when I download the server pack it says run server.bat, but when I do that I get the Java is not an internal or external command nor a executable batch file and something else. So where would I need to add the direct path to java.exe? In the batch file?

Edit: Just found out that I can't select open with.... on the batch file. And in the server pack there are only 2 files included: minecraft-server.jar and start server.batch

Removed bit mods didn't like. And like I said, I already got my friend to buy the game through paypal. I have the money, but my parents won't let me have paypal.

right, the direct path goes in the batch file, or you can add the direct path to the bin directory for java in your PATH system variable (right click my computer > properties > system variables from left window section thing) (the path is usually something like "c:/program files(x86)/java/bin" or some such, so the batch file would look like this

"c:/program files(x86)/java/bin/java.exe" -file -whatever -other -settings

There's instructions on the forums for minecraft

I'm not sure why everyone keeps missing this, but I'm talking about the alpha. As I've already said several times he was allowing people to play it for free when the servers went down due to being overloaded. I'm able to play the alpha without logging in.

@Isocadia - This is an official warning for promoting piracy on this forum. I don't care if the game is $60 or $0.60, if anyone brags about pirating anything modern on this site, we will have to slap or ban them. It's pretty sad and pathetic that people will pirate an indie game, and then discuss it on an indie game dev forum. Shame on you. Don't give me excuses that you don't have money or it somehow benefits the developer... it's hogwash. Get a job.

Well then, my sincere apologies to you and notch ( guess I own him an apologie if by my post someone else pirated the game ). I wasn't trying to promote piracy or even bragging about it, just informing the people who were telling that it isn't possible that it was.

But back on topic:

How do you make a swimming pool, I saw some videos on youtube with people who had one, but I honestly don't know how I would get the water in it.

I'm quite ashamed that you guys would pirate an indie game that costs £8.80, I didn't expect that on here of all places. He is only one guy so you can't even use the "big faceless corporation" excuse which is rubbish anyway, you think it's the executives that suffer from loss of sales due to piracy? If sales drop they just cut staff to cover their own salary.

This is such an innovative and charming game, I have no money yet I still paid for it, you can't justify stealing because you don't have money, it's not like you need Minecraft to survive. I would feel guilty every time I played.

Notch has made a lot of money out of this already but this is no excuse, he is setting up a business now which he has to pay for, employees and lawyers he has to pay and I am sure he will put most of the money back into developing his business, expanding Minecraft and making more amazing games. It all costs money and if you're pirating Minecraft you are preventing that from happening.

This could be a great games company in the future, and seeing as there are dozens of threads complaining about the "profit before entertainment" philosophy of big companies like EA, I'd have thought you would all be supporting and encouraging this fledgling company, not stealing sales from it which it has rightly earned.

Hmm, a bucket could work. Will try that.

And I understand, now that I reread my post before removing it that it did sound a bit braggish about it

he does now own a company, called Mojang Specifications, you can read a bit about it here: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Mojang_Specifications So thats not really a valid argument, however dont you think we should end that discussion about.. now?

Um, no kidding. It's technically possible to pirate ANY software. There is no skill in downloading a torrent somebody else cracked, but talking about doing it for specific indie games on a freaking indie game forum is lame.

EDIT:

Quote: "So thats not really a valid argument"

There *is* no argument. Even if this were a $60 game put out by EA, I would ban someone for bragging about pirating it. It doesn't matter who makes it.

Until two weeks ago he was on his own, he has only just employed five people, six is hardly a big faceless corporation
Anyway I already said that argument is a load of rectal discharge in the first place so I don't know why you are picking holes in it. You are coming across as quite immature and unsympathetic. I don't want to start an argument about this, just think how you would feel if it was your game.

*sigh*
iam not sure what i said to "come across immature"
and unsympathetic?
no.
And iam just stating that IF the game was still making money even though people were pirating it
why not let them have their fun?
if it however would have the other effect
that i would loose more than i earn
then offcourse i would mind.

but like said already, we really should end that discussion before it gets locked.

Just a quick comment, I saw some people earlier complaining that they couldn't buy the game due to issues with joining PayPal or something... I'd like to point out that while the payment process is through PayPal's website, you DON'T need a PayPal account or anything like that to buy the game, as long as you just have a credit/debit card. I was able to easily enter my card details and get the game instantly, without having to register for PayPal or anything like that. Really simple.

Not sure if that's what was the confusion people were having, but I thought I'd throw that out there.

@gbark: You don't need to have a paypal account? So I could just have payed with my debit ( is that what you use to get cash out of the uhm.. cash dispencers? ) as if I was paying through IDeal. If so than that would have helped me quite some searching for someone who had a paypal account

I think trees have to be sitting on soil to grow, if you chop the trunc, then the bits just sit there in mid air. I usually nab all the wood, then set fire to the leaves, keeps it neat.

Looking forward to the halloween update, a watch and some fishing is just what this game needs .

Well, My trees kinda started hanging over my wall, and since I haven't got iron, I can't create a lighter to set them to fire. Had to cut them all by hand

And yeah, the halloween update looks awesome.

Btw, my castle is almost finished, will post some screens when it is.
