Bah, I love this game so much. I've been addicted for a little over a month now. I even made a skin or two for my character to change things up a little.

Can anyone say, Spiderblock?

Aye no problem. If someone would be so kind as to donate an alpha version of the game to me, I'll host an alpha server as well.

Eventually I'll get around to hosting a few extra goodies for the server too

Started a huge tower on the TGC server with a moat. If anyone wants, they can add to it.

Welp, I've hidden a few secret blocks around the island in some landmark locations, and whoever finds them and screenshots them gets cookies. The blocks spell out HC and are written in yellow. Hope you enjoy my little scavenger hunt.

Sweet tower, Josh. I envy your patience.

Who made the boat? Just wanted to let you know it was awesome.

I made a below-the-water-level city. Hopefully the constructive ppl in this forum will outdo the griefing, and we won't need a map reset for a while

Really is quite fun for such a simple game. I build a castle with underground prison, and a tower, with secrete underground TGC worship place.

@HC, i found one, did not take a screeny unfortunately, but i know its by the boat and near my docks

I've joined on the madness now. Watched a youtube video of that Earth Minecraft and thought, I need this game. So I splashed the cash and I'm loving it. By the way if you haven't seen that vid: MineCraft - Earth

Just sucks, I'm going to be away from my computer till the end of the week. Guess I'll have to play it non stop today.

There is a guy called lapoxide on our server writing "Nigger" and making the Nazi symbol, we might need a backup....

Seriously, some 12 year old kids need to grow up

The HC Count is up to about 7 now. I've started construction on a giant iron robot and it seems that more griefers are screwing up the server. Spelling out profanities in large letters and swastikas everywhere... Bah, why can't we just play the game?

Its just utterly sad and pointless.

Built a house, had it destroyed by the griefer. He destroyed Cheesecake's robot too and just about everything else on the map. Ah well, was fun for a while but back to single player for me. Will probably log in from time to time to see what others have been up to .

Oh well, most of the epic creations were destroyed.

On the bright side though, lazerus and I had one awesome tower fight.

We've been talking about starting up a TGC Minecraft Alpha server. Would anyone be interested in hosting it? I'd be willing to donate a little if you don't have alpha.

Actually, you could probably just post the password on here - that would probably weed out most of the griefers.

Quote: "If anyone has the griefer's IP address' I can try to match them with users here."

I doubt its anyone from here, the server is displayed in a public list, and there are a lot of griefers >.>

Alpha online is way less cool than classic online

It'd be way better to get more development stuff on this server - like automatic map-resets, or multi-maps (I'm thinking a lava survival and normal map would be sick!)

I can host it, but I don't have alpha. If you're willing to donate, I'm willing to host... as for the griefers, please provide names! It's easier for me to ban them.

The server *is* private. There is no password option. I think the best way to solve this is through having mods. Let me know if you want to be one.

Also, I'll be putting up some neat php pages on the server too eventually that'll list player stats and things from the log file.

That sounds pretty awesome. Glad we're getting some mods as well, should help dramatically.

About the donating thing, though. All I have in my paypal at the moment is around $3 and it'll take a couple weeks to transfer any more in, if needed.

Thought I'd add a bit to Josh's shrine. Seemed fitting.

No problem, much appreciated. I'll get a photogallery up in a few days on the server to host and post pics. I can't do it now, pretty busy atm, spent too much time online as it is

@ jerico:

yeah, mods would be a good solution.

I don't know much about the minecraft server software, but I know there are /commands that you can issue through chat ("/help"). You could lock the spawn in a bedrock chamber, and teleport ppl out when they issue the command /password <password>.

...Or mods

I'd be interested in being one!

That wouldn't work on a classic server We're pretty much screwed on a classic server

Here's the IPs of the offenders so far:

Lapoxickle - 2.123.6.76

HC: Hehe, that looks awesome. I was going to make megaman next, and finish the shrine as it's only half complete. But if we're going alpha then I'll wait.

If HC donates 3 to Jerico I'll match it.

The maps in Alpha go on forever, or seem to do. Its a lot more productive than classic also, as you need to use tools to mine, dig and chop. It also has huge caves that you can explore (I mostly dig down in a random spot and drop into a cave system, then link it to the surface). Alpha has mods too, so you can allow and disallow people to get on the server, by using a white list.

they do, they first generate an area, then as you "explore the end of that area" it generates another area connected to the first area, so yes it keeps on forever^^

I think it's a seed based generator, so when generating a new world, it'll get a seed and use that - but then any time you change a block, like dig or place a block it has to save that block - but only the changes because the world can be re-generated at any time.

So, as you approach an area you've never been in, it might have to generate it from the seed. It's the only way that a game like that can exist, if you consider just how much memory it would take to keep the whole world in memory. Aparantly the generated world is bigger than earth, scale wise - well that probably means you could walk in one direction for days and days without any problems. I took a boat out before, sailed for ages in one direction, found an awesome dungeon, died, and will never find it again .

It's a shame tho that griefers are so damn common in this game, what I would like to see is server admin control - like when you start, you aren't allowed to destroy or build, just run around an explore - then the admin has to allow you to build. Might allow for different types of game, like hide and seek, tag, treasure hunts, pac man! etc etc. So much scope in Minecraft, and survival mode is awesome - should make Notch even richer once that's in place if you consider people with no login of their own, who will need one.

Yeah, it's sweet, unfortunately though an alpha server can consume many gigs of ram. My little VPS wouldn't handle it unless someone chipped in a good sized donation. (Though I could serve at least 10 classic servers right now no problem

To host it, I would need to limit ram usage. But we have a small community so it'll be sweet and I'll run it best I can

i think iam using a "special made"server, which is for alpha survival. anyhow it only consumes "200k" of the ram... not much really, unless using 1gb ram xD

Can someone grab a copy of the map before griefers get it?

Ive spent a good 2-3hours fixing the network i made, By fixing i mean its pretty dam sweet. I placed bottle necks and flood protection everywhere. So even if a grifer flooded a area itd only flood that compartment.

Everything is in squares and theres 4-5 ways to get in. So a backup would be reallly nice

Another good option, that I've at least seen in classic servers, is having zones tied to ranks. You have "builder" zones, admin zones, etc etc. While these zones can generally be veiwed by anyone, the blocks in them can not be removed/added to by anyone not meeting the required rank.

This works well in classic at least, because if you host 3-4 zones, you have a place for everyone, and generally only one zone to watch out for griefers(guest area) whereas your regular players have a zone they don't have to worry about griefers so much in. All it requires is assigning ranks to your regular players, and adding easy methods of getting from zone to zone for your players.

I love the idea of getting an Alpha server up, you'd definitely see me on it if that was to happen.
I think that the server needs some sort of mod with ranks and permission, so the forum moderators that play can be op'd and then members of the forums can be promoted to a "member" status with more premissions.
