Okay, so I decided to play with DBPro a bit, and I decided what better way than experimenting with the FPSC source.
However, when I went to google code and searched FPS Creator, I found a page that said use this code..blah blah blah, but in the downloads there was only a testfile.

Can anyone here provide me with a direct link to the FPSC source?
Or, can you tell me how exactly to find it, because my search at Google Code came up empty?

Thanks in advance.

First, be sure and update DBPRO. You can get the update here.

Next, you might as well use the most current release of the code. You can get that here.

You will also need the DBPRO. You can create your own, however, it would be easier to get it here.

Yes, set the following in the setup.ini file to 1.

dynamiclighting=1
dynamicshadows=1

Buggy? I don't think so. At least not for me. Some people don't like how they look but here are some pics showing shadows.

The player picked up the gloves and the image above shows a shadow of the glove. It looks pretty good for me.

So what is exactly wrong with that?

I see shadows of what looks like two boards going horizontal that is in front of the barrels. The shadow of the boards goes across the top barrel. The barrels are also on the wall. Are all of them static? Even if the barrels are dynamic they are still creating a shadow and it looks like it might be placed OK.

I don't understand the problem I guess.

Addendum:

Sorry, I didn't see the bottom image. I see what you are saying here.

I've found that enabling the dynamic shadows also crashes the testgame more often than it doesn't, if you play it for five minutes or more.

Why hasn't anybody put this in the Google Code issue list? I'll do it for you since I was able to duplicate it with stock room and barrels. Here is my image. The closest barrel and the furthest barrel is equidistant from the light source. The two upper barrels are dynamic. First of all the shadows are going in the wrong direction.

Here's my advise:

Never use FPSC's current dynamic shadow system!
It's unsupported for a reason!

the LRmod hasn't been released yet.

Well, it won't be fixed unless it is reported.

Bond1 seems to have had some tricks using shadows but I'm not sure where to find the thread.

If this problem has been around since v1.0 then I guess maybe it won't get fixed.

@Bond1

Didn't you do something with shaders that works on dynamic entities to create shadows; especially with fans. If only I can remember the thread.

Thanks Pirate Myke!

[off topic]

We lived in SB,CA for a few years about 50 years ago. There was a restaurant on Van Nuys Blvd. that was really a nice place. We have a friend whose Dad was a cinematographer with Walt Disney and we ate there a lot. Twenty years later it was still there when we visited. However, I looked up all the restaurants in Van Nuys and couldn't find it. I know I would have recognized the name if I saw it. I think.

Of course if you are less than 40 years old you might not know of it anyway. A lot of Hollywood types went there. Those years were great years for us.

@ Flatlander: SB is a great place. I have only lived in the Valley for 8 years. A lot of things have changed around here from what I understand. so a lot of the good old places just aren't around anymore. To bad.

@ JC Leon: That plugin was made for Rolfy by Bond1. Its use was for static segments. Has not been released as far as I know.

The one that was released was the animated TV screen one from Bond 1. It is for Dynamic entitys, and will not help you. But I suppose you could make a few wall entitys for where you needed them and apply the dynamic one to them and see if you can get a good illusion from it.

You can get Bond1's released shaders from Dark Goblin's thread below.

PM, even SB has changed a great deal when we visited in the 90's.

I guess I'm going to not use dynamic shadows until its fixed. It's not really a "killer" issue for me. Lee probably feels the same. However, if at least the shadow could be going in the right direction. That shouldn't be hard to fix.

Addendum to PM

I did a little research and just found some wonderful news. My wife remembered the name and I found out that Corky's became lamplighter and then in February of 2010, it changed back to Corky's and they retrofitted it to the same look (60's) when we were there in the early 70s. Here is the address in case you want to try it; unless you already have.

5043 Van Nuys Blvd

OK guys I'll quit on the off topic stuff. You just have to give an old geezer's nostalgia a break.

finally the issue with dynamic shadows has been brought up, i hope working ones will be implemented sometime soon. which brings me to my question, what is planned for the road ahead? Also is there a script or feature for shooting out lights, or would that have to be implemented?

The Black Blob Issue

While Lee works on this issue, a work around for some of you that want to use it.

I noticed that if you set dynamiclighting to 1 in setup.ini and then use a dynamic light rather than a static light, there will not be any black blob. It seems that it only happens with static lights.

The first screenie below shows the map with a static light. The next screenie shows the test level without the black blob.

Thanks for the beta and i did find a bug/glitch. When you put water in the map, if you have a roof above or in the water and swim up to it, the water pushes you through the roof...
And if anyone is wandering how to get water, just put a trigger zone down and give it the script "water.fpi" and it will add water. If you don't have that script just load the sample map and it has a trigger zone with the script, and i'am not sure but i think it might download the script when you load the map...
Otherwise just use the trigger zone that comes with the sample map.

You can install DirectX 9 on your machine. It won't affect DirectX11.

NEW BUG REPORT!!!
Well I think this is a new one!
So I started work on a new level, very basic, rough, and I did a quick test game and well, I'll let the screeny do the talking. Other already saved levels seem to work ok, its only new and freshly started levels that seem to have this problem. Im using Beta 10 and I have a GTX275 so I dont think this is a hardware problem. Ive ran FPSC Cleaner but that didnt help. Any ideas?

Lee is working feverishly on AGK. He hopes to get back to the issues list very soon and wrap up v118. No time limit specified. If he hasn't seen the list recently he's going to be surprised to see that there were more added to the list.

Edit

I had put GDK but I meant AppGameKit as it is now.

@Susysyay

It looks like a Google satellite image.

If you have fullshaders selected then turn them off to see what you get. What you should do after turning them off is exit FPSC map editor, run the cleaner again, start FPSC and either load your map or place down some segments again (same ones you used) and run.

I'm just trying to eliminate settings.

If you already have fullshaders turned off then turn them on. But, usually it's fullshaders that can effect segments in this way.

I chatted with a friend about the issue, and he suggested I reinstall 1.18 B10 again. So I did so. No luck. I decided to install 1.17 and then reupgrade to 1.18 again, and it worked. Who knows why. Oh well. Thanks for your advice anyway.

That's OK. I'm glad you have it working.

I'm not sure why that would have worked either except for the fact that v117 had something required that v118 didn't. In the official install of v118 everything will be included that needs to be included an it won't be necessary to install v117 first.

Downloaded Beta 10.

I've just started it up for the first time and when I try to load the last level I was working on before the download. I get an error that reads
"Error: FPM file is corrupt"

Any ideas/Anyone else had this issue?

Cheers in advance.

>Edit<

It only happens with that one map. I have 3 seperate saves for that map, as progression occured. I tried loading a different map and it loaded it fine as far as I know. I don't know if this is a bug from Beta 10 or not, but it's only happened since my installation of it a few minutes back.

Life's just a game.

..it was probably made using FPSC.

It more than likely it's because you joined the forums on Friday the 13th.

Just kidding. I don't believe in that stuff.

It is probably not a bug. What version were you using before you installed beta 10? What version were you using when you first created that map? Did you use the cleaner after you installed?
