DevilLiger - Well Done! keep it up, not much change on my list, as many of mine are mile stones as oppose to progressive

I have however spent a small fortune on books to further develop my skills, so I guess you can call that progress you can see the complete list of books I have purchased on my blog along with my current page number and reading statistics took several days to get that analytical data in order but it is all presentable now

http://www.vaseemvalentine.co.uk/

Look on the right hand side and scroll down

That list does not comprise all my book shelf I manually went through every book to count title and blank pages so that I could get an accurate reading statistic... helps for accurate progress reports and a handy skill for future projects

Hmm, guess I should update mine too.

1) Go back to the gym.
2) Eat more healthily - cut out the rubbish
3) Return to Karate and kick some butt...work towards my black for next year's grading
4) Get a job in journalism
5) Build my kickass gaming PC, at long last
6) Complete a project, maybe Abeyance.
7) Finish my novel
8) Visit friends up North more often, I barely visited them 2012
9) Drink more. I've been pretty teetotal in 2012

For number 1, thinking number 3 would be the better option (I'm more likely to stick at it)

For number 3, I've got myself a new gi and have started practising at home, but there's a lot I don't remember.

For number 4...next paycheck will probably be spent on the course I need. However, I did apply for a writing job 2 weeks ago, but was sadly unsuccessful. Also, I am writing for a news satire website at the moment, but voluntarily, does that count?

For number 6, I'm getting onto it. Will find the boost in performance with a new PC will be helpful.

For number 7, I actually need to write more to pull that one off.

For number 8, next pay check I may book a week off work to visit.

Also Sepp, I might have use for you on a website I might start sometime soon... considering it at present... satire based

Yeah, I'm pretty much the same there, I have been naughty and eaten a chocolate bar or drank a can of Monster or two, but generally I am eating healthier. Though I'm in a position where I still could be doing better.

I did try going the Quorn route, but the Quorn chilli was terrible. Still, I actually like the Quorn burgers, but every other Quorn product I've tried has been difficult to eat. Also...is it wrong to have bacon in a Quorn burger? Doesn't it kind of defeat the point?

Still, all my snacks have been replaced with lighter low calorie ones. I'm throwing in more vegetables - heck most of my recipes now will have carrots and spinach with it...guess I'm gonna become some kind of weird hybrid of Bugs Bunny and Pop-eye. Generally I'm feeling healthier and more awake...but barely losing weight, which is what I need to adjust.

I don't think that would be much better. I mean, yes it would, but to me it seems more like drinking kool aid instead of soda. better, but why not just water?

sorry, all I know is I'm paranoid about food companies. But I think it's justifiable. and it's not just me that thinks so.

http://social.popsugar.com/Truth-About-Vitamin-Water-541747

Not to mention.
Quote: "

Red 40

Red 40 is the food dye most widely used and is found mainly in junk foods. You can also find Red 40 in cereal, beverages, pet food and dry drink powders. According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, Red 40 causes allergy-like reactions. This food dye is also a known carcinogen that was linked to reproductive problems in rats, as noted in "A Consumer's Dictionary of Food Additives."
Red 3

Red 3 is an additive you can find in candy, baked goods and fruit roll-ups. The makers of maraschino cherries once used Red 3 to color their product, but at the time of publication, they use Red 40. A 1983 review committee found convincing evidence that Red 3 caused thyroid tumors in rats and the FDA suggested banning it; it was not banned. You may still see this dye in items such as chewing gum and cake icing, according to the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

that might be more info than you need. all I'm saying is they just want to sell a product. and considering it's my life that's at stake if I really want to eat healthy might as well know were to start.

The paranoia is justified IMO, supermarkets and food manufacturers are businesses at the end of the day and often businesses will look at what works out as a profitable outcome and generally if it's legal, perceived as legal or in some cases, if they think they can get away with it, then they will attempt it.

I am not saying all are like that because they're not, a business' ethics are down to those running the business and as a result they are human (and therefore can still possess any human flaws), but a business at the end of the day is about making money and if people are willing to pay, then for some, it's okay.

With the whole horsemeat scandal, Tesco is now trying to win back their reputation with their whole 'What burgers have taught us' campaign, unfortunately I'm not really buying it. Tesco is one of those businesses who have tried monopolising the market as much as they can and generally have quite poor quality food, even for the price you pay and like making shortcuts. They profit off of the perception that they're cheap, even though they're not so cheap any more. Other retailers have managed to source better food and source from within the UK without much problem. And now their reputation is tarnished, I'm suddenly meant to believe they're being ethical businessmen and not attempting a PR stunt. Heck, I'm not even annoyed about the whole horsemeat thing anyway - either way, it must have tasted nice and people always used to eat horse. Of course, in cases where a certain carcinogenic chemical was used, I am less happy about.

The whole horsemeat thing wasn't why I stopped shopping at Tescos anyway.

With Quorn vs real meat, Quorn is meant to be less fattening, but I'm gonna stick to extra lean beef because Quorn just doesn't do it for me, sadly. I've got some decent healthy recipes for meat anyway, generally I just bulk up more veg.

I have started shifting to ASDA of all places and sadly it is the closest alternative to Tesco for me... so stuck for choice really... but I seldom eat red meat anyway so I guess I am ok

Alternatively, there's Ocado. I've started using it given I can't always make it to the supermarket. It's not too badly priced and they offer 1 hour delivery slots as well. I've managed to find just about everything I need on there.

I'm planning to buy the Raspberry Pi around May because I'm wondering if I can get a game made in Java to load up on it. The game is only going to be a simple 2d game with no hardware acceleration. Hopefully it'll work with good or decent frames. My assembly learning has been really slow but once I hit spring break I'll get back to it. Only main part I'm learning is only for some custom operating system and other things like custom bootloaders/frontloader. The game is the game project I'm doing for Java class. So I hope I can just get that to load up simply on it. Afterwards I'll can do more on it. Spring break for us is the last week of March. I still need to think about what to cook for spring break. I might take off korean food. I forgot what I wasn't trying to cook. Thinking about cooking with kimchi and another one using tofu.

Update on mine. I'm not doing as well as I should on the whole healthy eating thing, I am still eating more healthy things, but eating a big bag of Cheetos whilst watching the Hobbit isn't such a healthy thing.

However, as the weather has been improving, I have been out for a bike ride, I cycled to the next village over and back. It'll be additional exercise.

So I'm going to say, if it continues, it'll be suitable for point 1) Go to the gym.

That also leads onto point 3, going back to Karate. My dad is doing his 2nd dan black belt grading this weekend and he keeps trying to encourage me to go for my 1st dan next year. He's been asking for my help leading up to the grading, so he's got somebody to practice with. So I may end up pushing it through and rejoining.

Then point number 6) The finished project, well, I've made progress this week. But nothing will be share until I've got something worth sharing.

Number 4 could potentially come true, the job in journalism. At least, I've applied for a job as an Editorial Assistant for a science journal, I meet all the right skills and requirements. The hard part is standing out and convincing them I'm the right man for the job. Well, they said they'd have a response 3rd quarter of April, but I am going to follow up my application with a phone call.

cool Seppuku Arts! good luck with the karate!

my Project is coming along ok I guess. but modeling is really hard for me. especially trying to get joints right so they bend in a natural way. But it's coming.

I started a second job to help pay for school... so now I work two jobs that drag me away from my project to go to school which will drag me away from my project... sometimes I just want to quite life to do my projects, you know? I'm upset with myself for only working a few hours a week on this. It makes me glad I started when I did.

On the code side of the project it's going much better. It's really modular. I have coded the functions so that each one has it's one and only job. The plus side to this is that it lets me add "catches" into the code that will detect a game crashing bug before Darkbasic does.

lets say in a function that sees if an object is touching the ground, the player controller-by some error or another-no longer exists. The code will notice the object no longer exists. and at that point give me a detailed error message saying something like...

"error. player controller for player(x) no longer exists"

I'm planing on adding a log that will record when things are created or deleted, and what function made/deleted that object number. so in the above example it will go though the list and print the function that deleted the player controller and the player controllers number.

I have not coded any of this debug code yet. But I've been coding the code I do have around the idea. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten one of the dark basic error messages and have been totally lost.

I have done real bad on my eating healthy one. got to get back into shape. >.<

Sepp, good to hear, yeah me and healthy eating, I am slowly slipping back into bad foods... But I have been restructuring my food planning and looking to increase my salad intake, and reduce fatty foods... however Oven baking remains open ^^

Southside Games - Sweet!

All - On Saturday just past I was at work and spent a few hours reading into other developments when I hit on something beautiful, in short I developed my own solution for DirectX Flush or more commonly known as Device Lost I believe is the phrase...

My solution makes use of a paid plugin as I seldom use M1U [as I am yet to get as far as needing to use it yet], but anyway I was wondering would it be worth me making a video showcasing the procedure that I used, if anybody else was in need of a 100% hit rate of detection method...

I too will be hitting one of my main Resolutions inside the coming 6 weeks! I plan to launch my first app onto the Windows 8 App Store!!! finally getting the time to study my coding books

Happy end of April time everybody!!! Hope all are doing well!!!

good going Southside Games and MrValentine. Keep it going. right now I'm designing a case for the Raspberry Pi. I wanted it to look like some kind of game console type of look. LCD screen, LED lights, dvd drive, hard drive, usb connector, power socket bracket, and enclosure box. link is one of the option I'm thinking about. I'm thinking about buying one more Raspberry Pi.

enclosure box:

I was looking at the Cubieboard until I had my eyes on this. The list of Sitara ARM Cortex-A8 processors on Digikey. I'm still looking into it to see how much of a hassle is it to build up a simple board using one of these.

Hey I'm modeling right now. But my model does not shade right near areas of high face population.

I'm sure it's an easy fix, But I'm not sure what this kind of problem is called.

Update
Quote: "1) Go back to the gym."

Gym sucks. However, I bought a bike a couple of weeks ago, been going cycling to boost fitness. Did 6 miles on Monday, some of it uphill. Not an impressive feat by normal standards, but by insanely unfit standards? It was an accomplishment. XD.

Quote: "4) Get a job in journalism"

Still applying for writing jobs.

Quote: "6) Complete a project, maybe Abeyance."

Making progress. I've created a new project file in Abeyance to go for something a lot more tidy and am now in the process of porting old code over. It'll just mean things are cleaner and simpler to use. I started coding Abeyance in Unity3D when I knew less about Unity's features, now I've discovered more, some of them will make things easier.

This is pretty much the result of last weekend of working on this(no, I didn't make the character model ):

Quote: "9) Drink more. I've been pretty teetotal in 2012."

Had a few pints after monday's bike ride. Occassionally buy the odd drink at home. Our department won the bonus last quarter, I am sure alcohol will be involved somewhere. Not sure why this is one of my resolutions, don't most people aim to drink less?

Well I don't think I'll be able to keep my resolution. Life kind of kicked in the last two months. This is the first time I've started Dark Basic in the last few weeks and the first time I've turned my computer on in a week and a half. Not to mention people that were helping or were going to help proved they were unreliable, and in one case a down right jerk. So I got the full workload. So yah.

I'll still try to get a demo out by the end of the year. but with the time I know I won't have I just don't see how I can do it.

Southside Games - Don't kick about in the bush, get up, kick the bush!

I have so much on at the moment, you should try to keep learning! it really helps!

Guys, I might have doubled up one of my resolutions in that I will be publishing to two App stores and also I will be publishing at minimum 7 new products within the next half year!

Good Times!

@ MrValentine

cool.

Also lol don't get me wrong. I plain to get most of the tools I'll need made for the game. what I'm saying more so is I'm not sure if I can get the skeleton items needed for a none tech demo. such as animation, level design and construction, Casting for roles, ect. It's the none coding items that I'm unsure about.

Well progress is being made! I can now place objective items in the map editor and have them take effect in the actual game.

First objective item I coded was the spawn point. Now when I place a spawn point in the editor, when I load the map in the main game It will place the camera at the spawn point. it will place it at one randomly if more than one are on the map.

I know it's been so long, but my heart is set on this for my case for my Raspberry Pi. One day I took a good look at my Playstation 1 and got a cool idea. Thinking about finding some cable and adaptor for the SD card and GPIO.

Southside Games - Keep going!

DevilLiger - I like how you think!

I know that the end of the year is teetering ever closer, but I still have three weeks to work on my studies before I get any closer to fulfilling some of my aims...
