I get a "Server has internal error" message. I was interested to see how you did it I've already made a Sonic game and it works well, but it was hard to get working initially

I remember Summer Games based off the original Track & Field for the C64. I played my best friend that game all night. The Diving Competition & Pole Vualt I was champ at. He could never beat me. We still talk about it today almost 20 years later. God has it been that long?

Question !

What if we happen to make some annoying bugs in the game ?
Does it still count, or will it be considered out of competition ?

If the game is unplayable then of course it's not likely to win. It's not going to take a rocket scientist to tell if the game plays correctly or not.

Cheers,

Rich

@Rich

What is the policy on user plugins and so on - Do we have to include them in the zip file with instructions or can we simply give you a link to the download.

Can I enter? I'm not going to do anything ambitious for obvious reasons, so I'm doing PONG. A (hopefully) nice remake using 3D effects, amongst other things.

Daz its open to anyone as long as they get thier entries in before (no doubt) 23.59:59 GMT 4th April
obviously you should aim to have it entered about a week prior.

any game as long as its retro is allowed, which i think Rich has set as Pre-1995 (pre-Playstation) exception being N64 titles... but Rich kinda doesn't reckon anyone could remake one hehee

have fun and good luck

I am making a track and field remake. It is in 3d and is based on the atari 2600 version. I have made the main model and am working on the stadium. The 100m and long jump are also in place.

I'm reluctant to say what I'm doing in case other people just steal my ideas and make them better, I'm paranoid like that. However it seems people are just making what I'm making anyway. So here goes, the ideas I have left to implement that I don't think other people are doing: Duck Hunt, Excitebike, R-Type, Donkey Kong Arcade. Duck hunt is going well so far, should be finished soon, and ace!

hey, has anyone ever made a game using Dark Basic where you can actually pick up and throw another guy or object?

It's very possable, using the limb commands it should be a breeze.

yup (^_^) ... made a still wrestling game when i first started in DB, i actually almost exactly used the example for glueing & unglueing object

its quite simple thought and would be better if you used a cross product between the hand limb / hand skeleton X Y Z and then position the object you're throwing at that point

If you wanna save space when zipping the game when finished.. could you skip compiling an EXE file and then the DBteam compiles the EXE ??! Because probably they gonna do that anyway

Well I doubt very much mine will be anywhere near handed in until the last hour before we need to hand it in, I'll just keep tweaking and adding to it until I have no time left, that of course is presuming I get it finished.. shouldn't be a huge problem there though.. I hope!

Interesting,

People heretalk alot about the compo, while I am like mad, trying to finish all of my 10 levels the game.

I am writing this in my class room(VB6 ), And I can tell you, that my game is going along pretty well.

I won't tell you the genre, cuz I don't even know it. I played my reamake on Nes(Dendy), and I don't remember the name. But i named my game: "DOG", since it has a dog as main character.

Anyway, good luck to all compedetors(did i spell this right?).

I think I'll reveal what I am doing when we get half-way through the development time (ie. March 1st-4th). I don't think anyone will steal my idea but I like surprises. Also, I want to have a few half-descent looking screenies available once I announce it. So far level editor, media and collision detection is in - time to start making it into a game and adding FX

hey if you have to make complete ExE's doesn't that mean that Trial users of DarkBasic Enhanced are excluded - because they can't build exes

not that it matters much but just a thought

i got just 1 question:

i can program code but haven't got an artistic bone in my body - i doing a remake of an arcade game. Can I RIP the graphics from the origional, then diddle them a bit in paint shop pro, then use 'em in my game - or have i gotta draw my own?

i aint in it for the prizes - i want the fame & the women that come with fame

heh, nice one! well i'm in it for all [prizes, fame and the chicks ] yeah, i've got a simillar problem, i can't make music and i don't know anyone that can readily make music for my game so can i use sequenced music based on music from the original titles (not ripped, more of a remixed compy)? the sites i can get them from say u can use them in games if the games are not sold (if they are then u have to contact the copyright holder and i can't be bothered) so since their not being sold, is it ok?

i have a jap mate who loves remaking game music
he made the entire ZeldaoT score for me, and you'd be hard pushed to tell which is his and which is the games (^_^)

but i'm not sure he'd like people requesting on him, perhaps could ask ... but then again the point isn't on the media but the code and gameplay.

just use the DarkMatter or freebie stuff in place of the graphics - and you don't have to supply it with the demo so no worries
