Hi Guys and Gals,

I am now working on the first of the Release Candidate versions of FPSC V1 and I would like to give the Multiplayer side of things a thrashing within a larger arena (pardon the pun). I am looking for help with this, which will involve download about 50MB of deathmatch and hosting/joining activity to see how the final executables FPSC generates holds up to real-world usage. I am looking for showstoppers more than glitches or feature additions. I will announce here Friday when the public deathmatch executable is ready, and I invite you to join me in a little exchange of bullets! Watch this thread over the next 36 hours if you are interested..

I'd love to test as well. However, I probably can't if it's based upon GMT+0. If you allow it for downloading though, I've got 3 teens and 4 computers to give it a whirl.

Okay, without any further ado, here is the link the to arena I have made for this test:

ftp://ftp.thegamecreators.com/fpsc/publicarena-190805.zip

If anyone wants to go that extra mile and take screenshots for us (which might very well be used for PR purposes all over the world), you can also download this file:

ftp://ftp.thegamecreators.com/fpsc/publicarena-highquality.zip

This second file is a replacement SETUP.INI which will increase the graphical quality of the executable from 128x128 textures to 512x512. For those with powerful computers only, and if you have a monster monitor and card, then you will find the WIDTH, HEIGHT and DEPTH fields inside the SETUP.INI can be changed to a larger resolution. We are looking for any screenshots from the multiplayer action that look good. Not easy with the arena I have provided, but you never know when that winning shot comes along!

All I am looking for is for people to get this arena executable, run it with a few friends, and post here how it went and what problems you experienced (if any). I will monitor the games being hosted and I might join in from time to time.

Some basic rules:

1. Whoever has the fastest machine should HOST.
2. The HOST must have the game running before anyone can JOIN.
3. The TAVOR in zoom mode can do an instant kill
4. Your firewall may try to stop the executable connecting to your friends and vice versa, so be ready to give permission for the IP communication required by the multiplayer game.

Good luck, and if all goes well, have fun too. I will keep track of this thread over the weekend and into Monday. Hopefully there will not be too many problems, if you have, post away and we shall all try to help You can download right away.

[EDIT] :

TOO LEE(A bug i found) :

I found a bug when i was playing. I hosted fine. It showed the right ip adress. But in the game if you press W and walk, then press e to strafe you can keep walking straight and look around.
Also when i was trying to join another person i got when it was done loading "Waiting to join", then i could just sit and look around the corner with the camera And i didn't got into the actual game.
Also sometimes i experienced problems with the sounds from the guns. Suddenly when i shot with the uzi it was not very loud, then suddenly it came out loud again. This also happened with the sniper riffle-like gun.

Well i will keep trying [EDIT]:

YAY! I got connected!!
Here is the screenshot!

I will try again! it was fun!

I WON A BIG FIGHT!!!!

OWNED!!!! i won!
Also it didn't lagged
I was playing the fight nice and smooth

I'm gonnna go play again!

I must also say there are some awsome sound effects in it now!
REALLY GOOD! And i like the way you control the player with shift now.

Here's a pic of me standing in the arena :

I have a 5mb connection, and I'd host. But for some odd reason I can't figure out how to get this darn thing to work right. When it loads there is nothing on the screen except the IP. I figure I must type my username and press enter. There are no options on the game menu, just exit.

[edit]

It appears there maybe extra buttons other then exit, but they don't appear. I went on a clicking spree and it loaded up something.

The Nerd, if you hosted game Robert, I joined. It seemed to get stuck at waiting to join. I wish I knew which ports this used so I can setup the router properly.

Two bugs I noticed during the deathmatch:

1) Other player models do not show. They come up as grey figures.

2) When fragged and respawned your character doesn't automatically load the default weapon. You have to press 1.

Attached is a screen shoot of the grey figure bug.

Its funny.

I have the same issue of the gray and green models, but its possible caused by my graphic card.
I discover a possible error. I join to a server and load the game, but the "waiting to join" message show too lon time. I exit game and got to the menu and the "server" have dissapear.

¿Its possible an error when is loading the game and the server quit the game, you recibe the message of "waiting to join"?

2. It would say I have been killed but I can still go around shooting.
3. After a game I clicked "Play again" and I got an error and it shoot down..

Is there a way to define to which NIC the game should listen?
I have a NIC with a private IP, as soon as I connect via this NIC to the Internet I get a second NIC (virtual) with a public IP.

There should be a way to enumerat the Network adapters in order to define to which one the listening socket should connect.
And more important - which IP to use as "sending address".

It would not help you if you know my private IP but not the public one.

Hope you can do something about it

As this is a Multiplayer/Online Beta test, how come there seem to be no keys to

a) Show the current Player Scores (I'd expect Tab only that seems to display the FPS)
b) Show the current Player Ping Rates (usually on the same menu as the Scores)

As far as the guns go, the shotgun seems to have no spread. Was playing in a game against Joseph and someone else; they didn't even hit me once with the shotgun despite being obviously aiming in the right direction.

The Uzi also seems to give the impression of firing at a quick rate while the reality is that it's firing 1 bullet per 250ms ot something. Very very slow Uzi. The bullets should be much quicker to empty but do pathic damage, plus provide a more inaccurate shot.

I wasn't too much a fan of the controlability of the player either.
It feel very slow, and methodical. Multiplayer games are awesome because they react quickly and the action feels quite intense.

This also goes for the level design, right now it's the same as the gameplay clunky and slow. Not to mention it's quite cramped.
It's an extremely small level on the whole, you want to provide a bit more room for larger numbers of players. Have something that can test the game a bit more.

The options also seemed quite stark. No so important for testing the connection and playability; but important for making sure it is easy to navigate around.

As far as the speed goes. With the system in my signature, I saw ZERO performance difference between default ini and the performance ini. Oh and the level's Windows would work better if they were breakable. Make the players stop playing chase and be trying to blast each other away from across the way.
