Westray, the game is comming along very nicely. Not many comments other than WoW! (sorry I coldn't resist.)

I'd suggest the option to play in a window as opposed to full screen with the 800x600 centered in the display. (that works, but some people would prefer the ability to play in a window and minimize etc. If full screen window is chosen, just do like in full screen and center the game in the window.

Q: will the game be smart enough to know there are no 'combos' of 2 or more left and 'end the game'?

Q2: Is the save and load for saving the score or the game in progress?

Keep up the great work, Cheers!

New name for a 3D Pong game? "Pong Introperated", BallBattle, BattleBalls, WarBall, "Ball Wars", Boing!, that's the first few that pop into my head.

Sorry, no time to hang around today. Catch you soon.

Hi David
I was wondering if you could make me three images for the game.I would like them to be in a fancy font saying good, excellent and fantastic. They should have a black background so that the background is transparent. These will be used depending on how big a combination of Gems the player destroys with their mouse click. Thanks again

If I missed it on here let me know where it is,

I am looking for dice faces but in six colours.
eg:
1-6 in red
1-6 in blue
and so on..
and about 64x64

get the idea, have tried my self but just looks like something on an 8 colour machine, no shine and sprakle.

TIA.

Westray, define 'A little big bigger'. You do know you can scale sprites right? in fact if you start with the above size and scale upwards while fading it might be a nice effect.

Hi David,
Just another small update. You now get increasing score the more gems you destroy at once. Also the amount you will score is displayed next to the mouse cursor.

Nice update Westray. I'll take a moment to give you some more constructive criticism as to some 'odities' I feel have presented themselves in this update.

First the score shown next to the mouse is a nice idea, I just think it should to the right of the cursor. It looks and feels odd in the upper left in front of the 'hot spot' I kept getting the impression the score circle was the cursor. It might just be me but I had to share this with you.

Second, I'm very happy that the game is now smart enough to know then there are no more combinations left. But,.. you should let the anim of the explosion (from your final combo selection) finish <and> dislpay the message "No more combinations left" <then> open the high score dialogue if the player makes it onto the list. As is, I get the impression of being very rudely interrupted, and only after I type my name and click 'Ok' do I get the message "No more Combos".

Third, I love the new intro and slide-in of the game panel, but, perhaps "Click mouse to continue" or a "Hit any Key" type pause on the opening logo screen would be better, then eventually you could also raise the logo a bit higher and list credits under it. Just a suggestion.

Keep up the fantastic work, this game is going to be a keeper for me, I love the concept and the execution. I'm glad I could help.

Cheers!

hey david,
do you think you could come up with some abstract symbols (are there non-abstract symbols)
for air, earth, fire water?
maybe 32x32 or 64x64 (i can resize)

perhaps i can also ask for 3 other similar graphics:
an "archer", "swordsman", and "Knight-on-a-horse"
i checked out your 2d rpg tiles, but couldn't find the horse or bowman i was thinking of. something in that vein.

thanks,
bob

Sorry for a request right after another request

I would like some alien space ship graphics(not invader style) kind of like the space ship graphic you posted a while ago, but alien like. If you make about 7 of them, and one large boss, I will add you to my group for the shmup compo since all my graphics will be by you (if you want to join). It includes me, maybe BNT Stuff(music request post in Geek Culture), and maybe you.

I'm not really asking for them yet, if you would like to see the game with place holder graphics to see if it will probably make it(basic engine will probably be done after next weekend)

IBOL, I'll see what I can do.. Q: What style are you aiming for? Full color, 2 color (like road signs) Monochromatic? You gave good descriptions so I know the 'What' but it will help to see some sort of UI sample or screenshot so I can make the graphics fit.

Cheers!
-----------------------------------------------------------

UFO, making a reference to a ship I made would be better if you linked to the image. That said is this the ship you are refering to?..

It would help to know if the ships you needed were for a side scroller type game (ie Defender) or some other variation.

Cheers!

david,
i have no UI, and the graphics will be almost entirely dependant
on what you provide (unless you choose not to provide, and then they'll be pretty bad....)

the idea is a sort of 2d fantasy RTS, with units based on
fire/earth/air/water .:. knight/sword/archer/mage .:. valley/plains/hills/mountains
each unit in the game has these characteristics, and is effected by them.

2 color (or even 1) would be good for the "elements",

while more towards full color would be good for the
archer/ swordsman/ knight-on-a-horse/ mage (just threw that 4th one in there...did you notice )

i also pulled some graphics out of your 2d rpg tileset to use as terrain...some slightly altered...

now if you're feeling ridiculously generous, you could provide me
with custom tiles for Valley, Plains, Hills, Mountains,
all with whatever sort of feel you do the rest of the work goes in.

you are a great help to us! thanks,
bob

Ok, sorry, David. That is the one.

BTW, BNT stuff is in the group
It would be neat to have a beginging to the game like in Mono by Fog that has the 3 people who made the game with what they did underneath. (Maybe I will use avatars, or whatever image that is wanted)...Anyway, if you want to join, you can leave whenever you want to...

Game screen so far:

This seems to be a good spot to post this...

I'm working on a DBPro re-creation of the old naval battle board game "Broadsides." I haven't really started yet, except for gathering a little media, but I was reading this thread and decided to ask.

Right now I need a kind of Sea-faring pirate type background for my menu. I can give credit if I ever finish .

Icons for the 4 Elements Air, Earth, Fire and Water. (I'm thinking same style for the archer, swordsman, knight and mage but with square frame and slightly rounded corners and no wire triangle things overlayed.)

Cheers!

P.S. The main problem I have when trying to design these is I have no way of knowing if they are icons? UI overlays, game 'pieces' or in what context they will be used. I made them 64x64 but I'm not sure how well this style will scale down if you need them to be 32x32.

..and no, I'm not feeling overly generous, I've been there done that where rpg tiles are concerned, not planning on going down that road any time soon.

You're not feeling generous?

You've catered to so many random people's whims, offered up amazing 2d art for nothing (barring thanks and credits, of course) and produce work at a phenomenal rate...

And thats you not being generous??

I wish more people 'weren't' generous, like you

I mean - come on, I remember back in the day you were hoping to get your own rpg up and running and were looking for help on an engine - did you get anywhere on that? Is there anything that us coders can help you with? (There's several of us around - you may have noticed )

Lol, the operative phrase was "Overly Generous". Sure I'm generous, perhaps to a fault, but I'm posting at a slow rate by my standards and I'm trying to politely avoid large requests.

As for the "Templar Quest" game, I need to be in a 'special' mood to tackle programming. Between taking care of my mother and other RL stuff I have not found the courage to tackle that project yet. So I bide my time doing something I find relaxing,.. artwork.

Speaking of which,..

Here is the Archer, Swordsman, Knight and mage icons...

As for "Templar Quest" It might be interesting to turn it into a 'Community Project' And see how some of you excellent coders handle some aspects of the game. Let me gather my thoughts on that. In the mean time if you know some other coders here that you think you would work well with let them know there are interesting 'community ideas' floating around in my head.

Cheers!

Well, speaking for myself, I seem to work fairly well with most coders, but particularly well with RiiDii - as he and I (as well as some others) are already working on a community, open source game There seems to be a few kicking around just now, but no 2d rpgs, that's for certain.

I'll help however I can, though. No good deed goes unpunished, after all

Just one little, tiny thing that looks out of place,...

Here is a new Dialogue box that fits better with the UI look and feel. I also updated the buttons to add an 'OK' button for the dialogue window..

And yes I think the game would be worthy of shareware status, just don't get too rich lol

Note: I don't know how easy or hard it would be, but it might be interesting if the game grabbed the high scores off the net and when the player made it onto the high score he had the option to upload it . It might spark more interest in the game, kind of like an extra challenge. Not just beat your own score, but beat the best on the net. Or alternately the option to import/export a high score to then be merged with a friends list.

Just a thought Cheers!

I have some alien ship sprites to spit out, but will get to your request 3ds Master, rct3? wild guess,.. Roller Coaster Tycoon 3? or something else? could you list the 'round tools' you need? or is it just a round save and load button you need? Any sample screen of your WIP? I'd want to make the buttons match the look if possible.

Alien fighter version 1.0...

Alien Fighter Version 2.0...

The alien ship is designed to be facing the left. I'm not sure which look better, the tentacles in the front (v2.0) or back (v1.0). Let me know what you think.

Wow! Awesome alien fighter, David!

Only one suggestion: for the other fighters, just make them more space-ship like. I don't really want the player to be shooting actual aliens, more like actual space ships similar to the player one you made that I am using for the player. Just a little more alienish.

Edit1: Also, to make it a little easier for you, you should make them a little smaller because they will be made smaller anyway if they are too big, so there isn't any need to waste extra time on very small details. (The player ship you made was resized about 60% of the original image for them game)(so was alien fighter 1)

Edit2: Also, please put them in png format, because I need the background to be totally black (all rgb(0,0,0)) because that color is transparent.

Anyway, nice job!! Just give me a few seconds to post a newer screen with the new alien.
Wip thread will be made Monday.

Edit3:Screen:

Aliens to not shoot yet
Aliens cannot get destroyed yet

UFO, errm, ahhh the alien ship is a ship, I just tried to make the ship look a bit 'organic' as opposed to 'constructed'. I'll see if I can alter the style to something in-between organic and 'constructed'.

Sorry about the .jpg.. I must have been in the moon, I always convert my original .bmp to png. not sure how that happened.
