The login system is very annoying. And feels unnecessary. I don't really understand it, but when I think I got it right I got an object does not exist error. I'm gonna try the demo account and see if I'm just not following something...

EDIT: Got the demo account working (still not mine). Very laggy. Worse than most Game Maker MMO's

If you have fixed IP you can get your passwords back here..

http://81.174.154.100/cgi-bin/war/recovery.pl

Don't forget they are case sensitive.

My project is about game security, 2 factor authentication is something I borrowed from online banking to make password theft harder.

The game server is in the UK so if you are in the USA then lag should be expected as your message has to travel a long round trip.

Like all normal players, if they are on 0exp you cannot score from them, so just let it shoot you at least once then you can score 1 point for hits on it. You won't get 5 points for a kill unless the bot has 5 points to give you.

I change it nearly every day so it's pointless uploading it here.

This is the direct link (if your web browser is blocking JavaScript)

http://www.kumkie.com/war/clientdownload/warclient.zip

TURN YOUR VOLUME LEVEL DOWN IT'S A BIT LOUD!!! [USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!]

You can try it out on the demo account before deciding if you want to make one..

loginname - demo
password - demodemo
favourite (2nd password) - demo

@Gator, can you put a sign next to people's names in the highscores table, telling us whether or not they're online? Either that, or have a seperate page, saying who's online

I've seen it happen if you double clicked too much and lauched two clients at the same time. Just close them both and try again to double click once and it should work. or maybe you have an old client that is not compatible with the new server, just download the latest one.

Then I doubt the game will work it needs to visit kumkie.com to fetch updates. Sorry.

Beware I'm stress testing for my report so the server may be offline or full of bot players... I surprised poor Digsey, i bet he was thinking WTF!

I've managed to simulat 57 players so far then multisync reached it's 2048 byte packet limit.

Lol you had to go hide in the water.

I couldn't go beyond 57 players again, even though i used multiple computers and exes to make the bots.

[Edit: OK, nevermind, works now...]

I just noticed this thread and read the first side, so sorry if it has been asked, but what do I have to insert, when the client asks me for the "Favourite Fact Character (X)"?
I tried to insert the X'th character of my password, but that doesn't work...
The game looks great.

its the (x) character in your favourite fact (2nd factor password)

so say you have

loginname = fred
password = fredfrog
fav fact = Luv frog

if you get asked for character (x) from your fav fact you enter..

(1) "L" not "l"
(2) "u"
(3) "v"
(4) " " not <return key>
(5) "f"
(6) "r"
(7) "o"
(8) "g"
(9) <return key> because no value there

This is what online banks do in england to try and stop password theft. Even if you watched somone enter it once, the changes are the 2nd factor password question/answer would be different. In fact my bank asks for 3 characters, so i made it a bit easier!

It's a bit OTT but my project is about game security so it's staying in there for now.

If you find it confusing you can make another account just have a simple fact like "f" as your 2nd factor password so if you get asked (1) you type "f" anything else just press <return>

Have you noticed that sometimes it asks for the same character twice? Not good for security, me thinks.

I can fix that but i was in minds wether to or not.

I got past the 57 player limit, I've now hosted 98 players in a single zone before the server ran out of steam. Damn only 2 away from the magical 100 i was aiming for! I might try hiding the graphics.

We should set a date and time, where as many people as possible, log on, and we can all have one huge great battle, and it would be really cool

edit:
Maybe we could make a thread in off-topic, to get even more people to play

I'm online atm (hint, hint)

The game is looking pretty nice, except I can't stand the movement. It seems really jerky, and it seems like it snaps to a certain angle.

A very special moment... 100 network bots (Pentium Celeron 2.5Ghz + 7600GS hosting it) + 3 other PCs to run the stress test bots.

very nice stress tests! 100 players is awsome! judging by the lag of 192ms thats not that bad. how much lag is gained per every 10 players? is it very significant? ive been working on my server for a while and i would like a good estimate of how many players i can support in a zone have any tips for reducing lag with a lot of players?

That's the server, so it doesn't matter
(The clients interpolate between each set of values the server sends, and you can't send 100 tanks' data more than 4 times a second anyway.)

I've got ideas on how I can improve the player count with zoning and the like but no time for that right now. My next test will be fully encrypted traffic and see how many players it can support. I'm expecting encryption is gona be heavy on the CPU and reduce it to 25-50 players

You could disable the server cam so it can support even more players...

I now have over 1000 experience points in this game by the way.

P.S. Look at the distribution of points, looks like some people need to play more often! Come on everyone, I'm starting a 1000 points club.

Quote: "You could disable the server cam so it can support even more players"

I tried hiding the objects so they wouldn't draw but the collision went more cruddy. When I get time after the report I'll probably look into using sparky instead. If i switch the camera off does that work? I'm not sure the nVidia 7600GS isn't even breaking a sweat drawing 100 low poly tanks though

England, i find lots of lag normal caused by my WiFi LAN. Wired works great.

In an hour or so I'll be changing over to the secure server and you may not be able to login until the new client uploads.

[ok - new secure client ready]

Now you can see no data even if you stick a packet analyser accross it. This means no-one can sniff your password, write a clone server, or write an auto bot

[hmm a few bux need fixing in the morning]

It could mean the server is offline or it cannot get outside your computer. It's vary rarely offline.

Yeah diggsey is right, but 3999 is for more than just logging in it's also for gameplay traffic.

It may not be the router it could also be a firewall on your PC like Norton, Zone Alarm or Windows inbuilt Firewall (go to network connections and select properties) blocking it.

If a message pops up saying "do you want to allow WarClient.exe to access the internet" you need to select allow/yes/ok

I have really tried almost anything to cheat on your client and i need to say this is really uncheatable for me.. I think it will be cheatable for some experts but not sure

I tried value changing..
No luck (I guessed it tough)

I tried packet sniffing..
Well i got some encrypted sending strings what i coulve changed if i know how to decrypt it lol..

But i got my tank shooting whole time (I couldnt break the timer )

Etc funky things

If you stop one of your packets going out it will only effect your screen. As far as the game and everyone is concerned it didn't happen. It's not like Warrock where you can drop bullet packets and reduce the chance of getting shot or multiply bullet packets and increase your firepower.

Let me know what you try and how you did it, it can all go in my report
