I, __________________________, pledge to finish a working [game\demo\general program] within the first thirty days of 2010.

Finally want to complete "super kamikaze box shooter" a first person
tetris style game... started with it a few months back I guess the spawning and physics got the better of me.

I really really want to be the first person with a unique take on tetris.Combining the two elements is fun.

The buddy system is essential to your survival; it gives the enemy somebody else to shoot at.
The problem with taking the easy way out is that the enemy has already mined it.

I, Seppuku, pledge to finish a working [game\demo\general program] within the first thirty days of 2010...even if it's only 1 level.

Sparked from a conversation in another thread, it'll be something small and spontaneous. I'm doing the odd tiny thing with Unity3D - so even though this is for TGC products, I'll make the pledge anyway, even if it don't count.

It'll be called, "I aRe Seri0us GAMe"...essentially a game with cheapskate, poor media made up spontaneously...so it might be something completely inconsistent and I'll make it up as I got along. It might be a platformer. Essentially, if I have time...I'll work on it. Hence the "cheapskate, poor media", I don't plan to put much effort into it.

I might include random references...like Hard Gay (Japanese TV show), Rick Astley, and whatever the hell I want.

Something like that, only with a lot of blood and guns and shooting and explosions and no Mario.

Lots of blood? Hmm...I think there may be a guideline about lots of blood.

@Everyone:

When your project reaches a decent stage and you feel ready to share at least something about it with the world, post a Work In Progress thread and link back to it here, either through a logo image or just a plain hyperlink (if you choose the former then I can add the linked images in the first post to give it a bit more flair).

I fail to see why there should be a guideline about anything regarding the content of the games. Any guidelines in place would presumably restrict the posting of these games, and we already have those in the AUP. Regardless, I suppose you won't even know what ends up in my game...so yes, no violence. Of course.

Ehh if am going to be bed ridden, i can produce a few assets for anyone in desperate need. Im not saying fully fledged and rigged character's just the average stuff that you might need.

Compile a list now of general needs and ill start work soon as, but ill only release the media on the 1st.

Dont be over presumptious in thinking the media will be solely for you, its just me giving me back to the community. I will texture the gear aswell. Other than giving back to the community, this is rather selfish way to get some practise in ^_^ and apply that little more pressure to get me to work again on other projects.

I figure what the hell. I could probably finish a working demo where you could at least run around the first level. And if I don't finish, what's the worst that could happen? (I'll prepare for something unspeakable, just in case)

EDIT: Sig test

This is amassing rather more interest than I anticipated - possibly because my main lurking place is the DBC board, where you get about 1 post a week and our poor challenge thread seems to be withering and dying.

I, Monk, pledge to finish a working demo within the first thirty-one days of 2010.

I think I'll take the extra day of January to complete it

I'll not say what it is I'm thinking off at the moment, but I do aim to have a working demo, even if working classifies as <20 fps

Perhaps, I should have used a pledge for the DGDK Open Source Project-Trio - LOL.

I overlooked the guideline on the qualifying start date. Can a WIP be entered? I was trying to set up the Text Adventure Comp Post 2009. But, I haven't receive a reasonable amount of interest. Maybe I'll sponsor a Prize for this contest. What would be a reasonable prize for NaGaCreMo?

It's sort of an uncompetitive competition as it were. The prize is meant to be your own sense of achievement and all that. The entire goal is to finish something to the best of your abilities, not to try and outdo others and win prizes...

Yodaman Jer
User Banned

NaGaCreMo isn't really meant to be a prize-winning competition. It's more of an event that can (and does) encourage all who sign up to finish at least a part of a program within a certain amount of time. They can encourage others about their projects as well. So basically, they all encourage each other to finish their projects, and like demons breath said, the "prize" is a sense of achievement.

And yes, a current WIP can be entered as long as it has something new to show and be developed within the first thirty days of 2010.

I'm also thinking...

At the end of January, each of us who have created something should download and play each other's game, and perhaps rate it in a brand new thread (perhaps entitled "The Best Completed NaGaCreMo Projects"?). Perhaps if that happens and it gets enough views and what not, it could be featured in the newsletter. Of course by then it will already be February...but it's still an idea nonetheless. What do you guys think?

i got pathfinding working in only 140 lines with commenting (which i find suprising)
i have one floor though, that is i cant move bottom right diagonally, for some reason it isnt picking that area up (ill have to figure out in my logic why it isnt)

but ill upload the .exe of it so far, to bad it isnt even 2010...

[edit]

after i uploaded the first one, i realised it looked very unrealistic with the way it moved, so i quickly changed the movement function and now it moves alot more realistically, and the objects are coloured differently now

i reuploaded the improved one.

[edit 2]

i forgot to add
arrow keys now make you move

todo:

fix the bug that it cant get around objects
upload a pic
make it move diagonally bottom right (it moves every other 7 directions =S)(it magically fixed itself)
improve its movement
fix the bug when it gets stuck in the corner =/

@Outscape:

That looks great!

EDIT:

I've renamed my project to "The Adventures of Martin the Marble", and am almost done working on the level editor for it. Basically, the story is that Martin needs to rescue his Marbly friends from some nemesis (currently undecided as to who/what that will be), and he has to travel through several worlds to find them. I'm thinking about having a world screen, very similar to what was introduced in SMB3 for the NES. I can't wait to start the actual game itself!

I'm doing the same. Theoretically otherwise I could just pledge for NaGaCreMo '24 and just do everything apart from the title screen over the next few years and add that in in the last month. The entire point is supposed to be that you make something in the first 30 days of 2010, not the first 30 days and however much other time you want to put into it at any other point...
