2 cose:

saluti!!

well, a little explanation about making a simple atmosphere around a planet, with a plain for planet glow and a ghosted sphere for the clouds. then... you are speaking a different language to the rest of us... (us=italian people )

wow wonderful the translation of "ogni scarafone è bello a mamma sua!" - BTW terrible english translation...

"scarafone" is a dialect word for "BUG" but a very ugly bug.

the right translation is "each bug is beautiful to its mother"

i would like to write two lines about this game's aim.

1) not fast action: the game yes run at 60fps, but it is aimed to a slow action arcade game, no incredible speed, no actions to perform in tents of second, relaxing.

2) lot of ships, more than 1 enemy race (we have torion, kabellarian, pirates and mercs) and allied races.

3) try to get a somewhat feeling to not be alone in the game, with radio messages from friend and foe.

4) a ships archive to watch ships in all their glory (maybe not so much glory..)

5) at least a minimun grfx effects like smoke, lights and engine flames.

6) replay missions will give you experience and money

7) some rpg elements like experience and levels for ships.

8) player can have a personal fleet, buy and sell vessels.

9) a campaign not so long but not so short.

10) sick and tired to use a small starfighter... let's use a starship!

and finally, i like space sim games! the best ?? warhead for amiga and the first wing commander!

Oh no, keep the hi-res textures! You should have an option to download the hi-res or low-res, because I'd happily go for the hi-res.

There aren't enough words to describe how awesome that screenshot looks... Awesome work! Have you thought of adding that heat-haze shader to the engines of your ship?

heat haze, it will be great! looking for this after the missions set will be completed.
and it's a shame most of the texture effects are made on the lowres version of the same, so for this time only lowres.

Thanks ZZZ, i'm happy you like this ship!

this is an upgrade of the -New York- class frigate (upgraded ships are usually unlocked during bonus missions, i.e. you play a bonus mission, you will find the upgraded ship, you can then purchase it.)

i was wondering to mod this game with Star Trek ships.
Earth and Vulcan versus borg, klingons and romulans.

it's really easy make star trek ships, are all about the same! a dish plus one/two/three engine nacelles, and a central cyl body.

no need to write a playground, or a story. just the Kirk of the situation and an horde of evil enemies... the game is done!!!

no need to make an end at the game, star trek never ends.

It is a good idea on its own.
To choose a popular sci-fi culture would help to attract more people to play your game.
However, unless specifically aimed, I would say that having an already existing style is what people do when they do not have any other subject. You already developed your custom ships and story, if I'm not wrong.
What I would do is to finish the current project and publish it as it is, with the look that you designed. I think you said you were close to this point.
After that, you can think at any time to improve it specifically with Star Trek, Star Wars or Galactica ships, and release for example, the 'Star Trek version'. You can even call the new game with a different name, if you don't want it to be related with the previous versions.
I say this because it looks like a major change to me, and there is no need for this if the project is almost finished...
Anyway don't want to put you down. I think it would always be a good idea.

oh yes, that mod is for sure after the game is completed and published, the point is the game's engine fit 100% the requirements of a "star trek" or "galactica" game!

about complete this game, at least 10 missions, maybe 10 new ships, testing, and the game is done.

wondering on use heat haze shader, but probably knock out my fps rate.

voyager series aren't my favourite, i like "star trek enterprise", i prefer early space flight vessels, like the botany bay, or the mighty "dedalus" class.

BTW i'm working on an "eye candy" dedalus class entry for my game.

nazi ship is 100% in. you need a password to unlock the right texture, but it's in.

one of the most intresting feature of this game is the number of the ships in the game, with objects like asteroids, space medusas, berzekers (who remeber it in warhead?) space stations, civil ships and military vessels, i'm about 105 now. the number will be increased to 120 i think, a space gran turismo. player can use about 45 of them.ships are lowpoly and midres texture.only smooth effect applied.

a bad note is the english translation. The game is in italian and in english, italian is perfect but english isn't so good. i can't effort a professional translator and google translator is a nightmare (ah ah!) so, mission are understandable but not so beautiful to read. the txt of the 'missions','intro' and the 'end' is in the dba source of the game. if someone will correct it (when the game is complete and posted) i'll fix it.

then, i spent a lot of time on balancing the 4 difficulty level of the game, anyhow if some level is not for your match, you can raise or lower the difficulty at any time, without restart the campaign.

finally, my friend Filippo Benigno works on the music section of the game, making lots of incredibles mp3! great man.
he's also making a new space arcade game, 'the last space 3'. it will be posted in the 'program announcement' soon.

BTW, it's not so easy to use two languages,i'm a skilled one in italian but not so good with english.

actually the game has 47 missions ( 43 campaign + 4 bonus)
but i think the set will be of 45 campaign + 15 bonus.

still 13 missions, some new ships and the end sequence. (it will be like the intro i think) and the game will be 100% done.

after years of inactivity, i changed my www, just to set for upload ESF.

i lost any chance to modify my old www, if you're in Italy, you know Virgilio + xoom + chiave unica = great pain and all the xoom sites "andati a puttane", "lost". very angry for this!!

so i switched on Libero. you can use ftp, it's free, and i placed all the files to download on mediafire.

my site is really minimalist, with only green/black colours.

New web is looking good for a start

Daedalus class is looking great too, while the other ship pictured just above looks out of place for the current game looking.
Anyway I'm sure that if you model it you'll be giving it your own flavour

oh well, the daedalus is only a bonus ship, and yes it's on the line of the other ships about texture.

Kazon ship will not be included for sure! to odd for my game.

i haven't any special care for my web, it's only for letting people download my games, so it's a very essential html page with download links.

Daedalus is nice, although I'm missing the windows of the command center or something like that.
Also I'm afraid that the bottom-rear part looks like a spray can, sorry
To solve this, for example, I would push to the front the big cylinder of the 'spray can', that way the tip would point to the inside, instead of pointing to the outside. No big deal, just an idea, after all this is just one design, and you got a lot of them.

Quote: "...agreed to help me translating missions text from italian to english"

Nice, remember to take care of everything, like the hud and even the web, not only the mission text, although I understand that is the main thing to focus on

well the original Daedalus it's also a "spray can". i don't think i change it, it's only a bonus ship and it's about useless in the game .

yes i will take care of all the english txt in the game, and web, if mrs Campbell will agree to continue this work!

i wasn't aware my english for the hud is broke... i will control.

and yes.. i forgot the windows of the command centre for the daedalus...

Ooops, I forgot you were re-creating the original model

Quote: "i wasn't aware my english for the hud is broke... i will control."

I think I saw a couple of things in the running game, apart from the mission text, that were not too much 'standard' english and called my eyes, but I could be wrong. Little details in any case.

The 'schwarzenegger' class looks great, elaborated. I bet it must have doubled the amount of polygons of the other ships.

And that Kabat system looks cool too. Although you should be able to include anytime, for example, some normal maps for the ships.
[Edit: Oh wait, already included?]

I see two blue lights in front of the 1st plane ship, is that a new detail or have I been missing it?

first, thanks for your comments.

then, about blue light: they are ghost fading objects, slowly flashing. not a new detail, but the old system has only fixed ghosted object, now lights are flashing as i said before.
esf has blue light, kab has red light, and so on.

normal maps: well, actually i haven't any idea of what a normal map is and how to work with it. i've downloaded xnormal, i've created a normal map, but i'm sure i'm not good with this things because it's useless (the normal map).
and it's really botherous to apply fx every sync to keep the fx effects working. thanks TGC... i'm sure this is a last minute cumbersome adjustment to let nvidia fx works with dbpro.

so,i only have diffuse map.

normal, bump, etc, are things i've to study at, and it will not implemented in this game for sure! because some ships are texturized with 2 or more texture file, and with a ship of 100 object i don't want to become mad texturing one by one, and remember i've about 120 ships actually.

i'll make some study about this after the game is complete, for my next works, so i will have normal texture (maybe... i believe fx things are a nightmare) and dark phy working abilityes to make a new game, like a car smash arena.

i'm not bothered about that, daedalus is a bonus ship, you must unlock the mission, complete this mission, and if you want ,waste your credits to purchase a space wreck like this. it is never mentioned in the game this is a star trek ship.

hopefully there isnt copiright for jupiter's planet map,or for the sun, or for using the word "starship" etc etc.

BTW, i was too much happy, i believe english teacher will not translate/correct my game, i haven't any reply, and it's about 2 weeks.
