Started doing some character modelling last night, though wish I had time to do something afternoon. Maybe I will before I go to bed. Everything is low poly to keep it simple as I've got plenty of characters to model.

Obviously the 2 sides aren't merged together yet (hence the seam).

I made this today. The image is 1920x1080 so... I don't wanna take up all the page space, so the image is attached.
Made in Blender and GIMP. Earth was made in Blender. Background, flare, and sun was made in GIMP.

Looks cool, Josh. Is that some kind of cell shading?

Here is a model I'm finishing up. A female base mesh for use in Zbrush. 1752 Quads. No 3 or 5+ sided polys.

Great work on that! My only crit is that it's really obvious that the stars are tiled.

@ Vent
Thanks! It's actually a re-do of another earth I did a long time ago.

Quote: " really obvious that the stars are tiled."

*Scratches head* Heh, yeah. I sorta just went on Google and found a star background, Made it seamless and pasted it on the background. Sorta lazy of me lol. I'm re-doing it soon enough. This time I did a 24 hour sun cycle. I'll post that version on YouTube for all of you to see.

I wish I was good at CG art.

This is my latest 2012, yet pretty old, WIP.

It is roughly 1200 polygons.

If only I could learn how to uv-map.

Is it wrong that was the first thing I thought?

I should get back to 3D modelling my character, I ended up getting distracted by coding more stuff in Unity3D, but it might be time to get some animations in so I can finish coding my battle system.

Ha ha ha... Same thoughts here too...

I've used 3DS Max since 3.1 when I was working for a huge company in Liverpool. So I guess I know about 60% or less of what's in the latest versions.

Here's the missus's foot resting stool. Couldn't find the correct texture to match the leather. As I play a little more then I might just put some more images up.

I just don't know how to rig characters...

nice stuff here as always. A gun i made yesterday in Scetchup (am i the only one? ). Its a loosely made copy of a m14 juggernaut. I only used one image as a reference so theres probably quite a bit of misses.

The image has been done in photoshop for the cool effect.
and the background isn´t transparent.

Took way longer for me to get around to this than I'd planned, but here's the hand work so far. The nails are going to need some adjusting now as they sometimes seem rotated oddly compared to the knuckles.

Thanks guys! 3 hours of brain melting stringing, and 30 minutes of Yafaray bugs, 2 hours of actual modeling and an hour of rendering, here's the nearly complete thing. I decided to go pretty friggen detailed, down to the hinge that holds the lid on. Total of 46,370 polygons. It's actually for a competition. Statewide one, too. Hope I win...

I think maybe a wood texture ought to work for the inside piece. Other than that I think that's enough in terms of texture. I think the rest ought to be achieved through shading & rendering, at the moment the shading on the piano looks soft - almost as though it's padded, but normally pianos have quite hard surfaces of wood (perhaps creasing your shading domains would help), usually quite shiny too.

What would also be neat is HDRI lighting, I don't know if YAFRAY has it, but if it does, I'm sure you ought to be able to find a HDR image of your liking. I've got a few HDRI I got from a DVD in a magazine, but obviously, I wouldn't allowed to upload them for you, but you might be able to find some through Google.

But it's looking good!

@travis - I've noticed you've added a lot into it for the strings, but couldn't you have sped up the time creating the model by adding a transparent texture? Or is there a specific reason for every poly?

I think it look extremely impressive and can almost see where it's going to end up.

Maybe make a low-poly version of it with some short cuts too. ie the transparent texture for the strings and vertex smooth the edges to cut down on verts too.

Thumbs up here man...

EDIT: And good luck with the competition!

It's there, just not in the render.

What is this, exactly? I've heard it before, just not sure about what it really is. I do have to HDRI images, though.

It's basically image based lighting, it can give more realistic effects, though I've never actually tried doing it. Might test it out tomorrow as I believe Carrara supports it

I'll do the interior wood thing that you mentioned when I finalize it for the competition.

Indeed it does. What would be sweet would be a little stage and some spotlights - at least, I assume you're planning to put it into a scene*. Gives me more reason to try and do HDRI in Carrara now.

*Yes, I like making you work.

Attached is my favorite studio HDRI map. Make sure you setup your HDRI light with auto detection and at least 30 samples. Oh, and disable 'show HDRI image'

Your piano is excellent Travis, got just one crit, those legs are way too thin to support the weight, you ever tried moving one of those things?

That's a negative there. I can easily make the legs bigger, I just based the legs off of Baby Grand Pianos that I've seen before. Never really seen a Grand Piano in person. But looking at some Google images pics, I really got the legs wrong. Meh, I'll fix them.
