Yes, there needs to be some form of timer based movement in this demo I imagine? Too fast to play.

I'd like to see how you got the facebook and twitter buttons working though! Oh, but this is Tier 2 right?

I will see if i even send my one in ?
Something with the new update is weird as all my raycaster code is extremely slow on android?
Half the speed compared to before?

Quote: "Oh, but this is Tier 2 right?"

Yes he is using tier 2
Atleast wath i have seen in some of his code snippets earlier ?

Edited......
Seams to be an android player bugg ?
If the player is in landscape mode when i start my landscape app so do i get a 1/3 lower framerate?
I must force it to portrait mode and then start my landscape app to get right framerate?

It depends what you mean by facebook and twitter, baxslash, but I have played about in tier 1 and have facebook and twitter links working fine. Facebook, I have got it to post messages to the wall also. Not tried anything like that in twitter, but I don't think it has that sort of option. Not tried the game yet 3d point in space, after this sort of comment:
Quote: "I think if I teamed up with cliff then this compitition would be over"

It had better be good!

Edit - Oh I haven't noticed any speed drop as such with the new player and version .. I hope not. I'd be happy to test it on my android for you.

3D point in space, hmmm, well I'm not sure what computer your running on, if you could play that when testing and developing, but it must be steam powered. My machine makes it somewhat unplayable. If you leave it like that I can guarantee you won't win. Did I see you say you have no time to fix it? I'm sure it would take all of a few minutes! Ah well.

@baxslash, yeah links like that are pretty simple in tier1, so no problems with that. I have played with them those in my release already.

Edit - Just another mention of the demo you put up 3d point in space. Apart from the insane speed, it looks pretty good. But, no options for PC? No joystick or at least keyboard support? I wouldn't play it long clicking buttons with the mouse tbh. I'm not sure when TGC says released on all devices, they only mean phones, but I am trying to cover as many formats as I can myself. Just a thought you do have awhile yet before release.

Iam in the middle and dont even know it

Iam a one man show that do this for the fun of it
Iam actually an artist that become an programmer! after finding out the hard way that its hard to find programmers to finish game projects for you

My project is far from an winner but an new concept of snake.
Its playable but runs on a low framerate.

oh wow you got the comment to work in face book oh well I guess I will just do mine for fun too. I haven't got this to work yet . Oh well if you win I guess you tell us how to post to facebook. I just opened face book. Darth I just a sarcastic vet. I like talking trash I guess sorry if this offended you, but I think there is a coder on these forums that is quite and going to make his kill as soon as he enters the contest.

Always the quite ones that we got to watch out for.

agk::SetSyncRate(speed, 0); should help, but needs to be right by the sync();

This gives me a great idea though about speed of the snake. I make it go faster as you collect items making it tougher to get a good score.

I wasn't offended 3d point in space, just stating the obvious! My comment "It had better be good", was a friendly jibe as you, for the slightly big headed comment you made It could have been meant in fun of course, but there's no smiley It definitely looks like a statement of fact :p .

I then ran it to find it running at insane speed and thought I would post and let you know. I'm sure the judges will be playing it on PC as well as any mobile devices they have, so best to make it run at playable speed! Also on pc, I found no way to control it other than the buttons, which at that speed is pretty hard :0 .

I posted about facebook merely to let baxslash know it is easy to do in tier 1, as he seemed to think tier 2 was the only way to do it. I'll certainly share how I do it when I am 100% sure it is working ok. I have checked the message arrived only, and that other people saw it. I didn't check the link it sent. Once I know that is working I'll post it up.

If you read my comments I only really state problems and suggest improvements. It is up to you how to take that. I, in turn, meant no offence.

I'm having text issues on the android with it at the moment, which is nice lol. Works fine on my PC, but fails on second run on the droid. 1065 is the same, even compiled, so not sure I can do much about it, unless I rewrite it with sprites instead of text.

The original snake game is increasing in speed and length each time you eat something

Have you tested to use get frame time?

I make an global float value i call gft#.

Then at the top of my main loop do i put it there like this.

global gft#
Main loop start...

gft#= The get frame time command

move spriteX(Dart vader)=move spriteX(Dart vader)+(0.2*gft#)

main loop end ....

Makes speeds at higher frame rate move closer to speeds with low framerate.
But still so could really high frame rates 250-500 makes things go slower then planned.
and extremely low framerate makes things go slightly faster then planned.

But game apps are supposed to run at frame rates around 30-60 and there does it work really well.
And frame dropps dosent show to much during play

I use this in my snake game and its slow ! extremely slow !

But is confusing enough still playable and you nead to look at the fps counter to see that it only runs at 10-20 fps on my bad zte skate 800 mhz phone

Hum not quite...there's three members for our game.
Our newest member is...darkvee! Welcome to our team, darkvee!
I'm also a programmer, but I'm leaving the programming to Hodgey and darkvee (and they're doing a great job). Most of the graphics are done. Now working on sounds and music.

MY GAme is ok not like there any thing special though. going throw debugging. How did you three coordinate to work together on this project. Hum I guess that is the benifit of living close together instead of the bonies. Got some things working like picking up but that is about it. I don't like my particles that are created during pickups. Oh well. I just practicing my graphic skills maybe one day I be as good as the slayer… takes me way too long.

Nice Slayer! Looking good. I like the cartoon style. I can't see how it will play from the screenie though. Will have to wait and see!
Pilz X Schizo that's looking nice and cartoon like also. What is the mad mole doing? lol.
I actually popped on to post my findings of the facebook links.
To get your facebook to open up and post a link.

To alter it you can just insert the web address where darkbasic.com sits at the moment and you have it done.
Twitter is even easier.

I assume if you change the gamecreators to your twitteraccount it will send you there instead. TGC was the first and only attempt I tried as it worked as expected.
Hope this helps anyone wanting this facility!

Nice slayer
How does it look on an small screen like an iphone?
Could be a bit small sprites if you only minimize the resolution to a phone?

Looking great, Pilz X Schizo. Nice work. Hoping for a demo real soon.

Thanks a bunch, everyone.
Credits also go to Hodgey and darkvee for their excellent work on the game mechanics. Thanks, Adam and Josh, nice work guys!

Hum, I don't have an iphone to test on, unfortunaly. But, the screen resolutions for iphones is 320x480 or 640x960, right?
We could scale the images (the spider and bugs) if possible.
I have almost finished the tune for our game, and so far, I like it very much. Really catchy tune.

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the very nice comments guys.

This game is coming a long really great.
Quote: "How does it look on an small screen like an iphone? Could be a bit small sprites if you only minimize the resolution to a phone? "
I'm thinking of system in my head that will scale to any device. Were hoping the game will be done very soon. The Slayer is doing a great job making the graphics and giving us what we envisioned. Thanks The Slayer.

Adam is doing great also. He is getting stuff done when we need it. Were all doing great as a team. We work very well with each other. So look out for a demo soon!

I dont have it at the top of my head?
I test all my apps on my android zte skate that have an resolution of 480x800.
But i always use landscape 800x480
Some suggestions i have are!
Maybe make the web cover the screen more and by that way also increase the size of the spiders in the same scale you increase the web.
You should always think of that small sprites could be hard to see on an small screen and its not always about screen resolution
My game looks like an pixel mess on pc but looks great on an small screens
Iam also thinking about people like me that are color blind that can have an hard time to see right colors if the sprites are to small.

I belive one point of your nice looking game is that the colored flyes have various effects?

So you see where iam going?

So here is my simple experiment with an snake clone.
Its very basic because my idea whas an fake 3d snake on an 8 bit nes.

Playable demo is zipped and included here !
But no source as it will be released when the compo ends.
Cheers.

Edited.......
The mouse works just like an finger on an touch screen.
Left half of the screen turns left and the right half turns right
On an computer so can you also use the arrow keys to turn.

Baxlash let me know if you recived the email with the source code?

Originally, when The Slayer and I designed the game, we decided that working with a larger resolution would be the easiest and so focused on perfecting the game mechanics at the resolution 1024*768. Once the comp is over, we will focus on smaller resolution support and I have an idea on how to get it to look just as good on smaller resolutions.

I couldn't be 100% sure on this, but if you had a default res of 960x480 or vice versa, surely it will automatically scale down on lesser devices? Or am I wrong about this?
You also have SetResolutionMode(), which supposedly scales the image down for smaller screens. You could detect the phones res and set it accordingly? I wish I had a smaller screened device to test these sort of things myself

The size looks ok from the screenshot to me, but hard to say when looking on a big screen. Have you not had chance to test on a phone? I would have thought a 3 man team would have at least one test device between them

I have almost completed my effort also, been testing android issues over the last 2 days. It seems stable at the moment. I may even post a picture soon!

It's better to scale up. Start with 480x320 for iPhone for example.

Yes, if you want things to look bigger on a smaller screen it might be better to just use larger sprites. It depends on how your game works.

I have gone max res for this for a change, I'm always using a low res normally, so I thought I'd try a change this time! Not thought about it fitting on the lower res screens, indeed I have forgot all about them while developing this!

@ Cliff, I didn't notice you had finished! I watched the video, but missed the download. I'll take a gander a bit later today, it looks really nice from the vid!

I may as well show a screenshot of my game now as well. It's pretty near complete bar a few final things.

Yupp, I keep dipping into those compo sprite sheets I won lol Still working on the main game engine, a few more things to add, and I should be done, bar online highscores . Still a week left to finish getting it how I want, or as close to as I can get .
Hows everyone else's entry coming along so far? I wonder how many snake games kamac and baxslash will have to play test? So far I think I have seen 6 people who have mentioned entering? I may be wrong there of course, the thread is quite big now, and obviously people may be beavering on a game without posting at all.
Off to go test 1075 now, good luck to all entrants!

well i am done but I am trying 2 player know. Don't know if I can get done by tomorrow with two players. Oh I see the the date has changed from the 25 to the 31 I guess this give me some more time.

Darth nice online high score system, I thought about that too, but I haven't started on that so I just keeping a in game high score system for know.

I have actually two games inside the game. One of them is a kids game. the other is the original with a few modifications. The 2nd game is called snake speller. Once you hit a letter it says the letter. Kind of an idea I got from my brother how has a kid.

Oh Cliff I played yours and I think it is a little hard to control the snake. It looks nice besides that.

Weird... my calendar says there are six days (counting today since it has barely started)

And even if I don't get this done in time, I'm still glad I downloaded AGK... it looks like I could make something awesome!
