Here's a project i've started, its a flight shoot em up that i've based on one of my favourite games. anyways so far i've got the crafts physics and movement in place as well as the shooting. Heres a comparison between my version and the SNES original.

this looks real nice.

I think it may be better if you set the rings to 100 ambient so they look special. Or maby not, experiment. A shadow would be nice too

overall keep working on it. I loved this game and to this day it is still more of a challenge then the N64 version.

That looks great!

I loved Star Fox 64 (I played SNES Version, but not alot). Their basically the same though. My favorite part was that you could tilt the ship with R+L, and if you crashed 3 times on the wing, it would fall off!! LOL.

Ok, I'm going to post a demo of the Arwings flight movement and i'd like feedback and suggestions on how i could improve the "feel" of the flight and make it more starfoxy

PS: Also tell me your computer specs and the FPS you get(locked at 30 by the way)

And i apoligize for using a midi for the music since the mp3 is qquite large for my host space and file size.

Controls:

Up: Move Down
Down: Move up
Left: turn left
Right: Turn Right

Space: Shoot (I havent finished this part properly yet)

No Boost, brake, wing damage, or rolling implemented yet

Download: http://members.lycos.co.uk/warhammer4000/Starfox.zip

Special note: This is very early stuff and the demo is only there as a test to improve the control and handling of the Arwing. The graphics will improve through time but for now its this crude.

Cool demo! I noticed that when u go left and let go of the leftkey, the wings dont swing back into position gradualy like they do when you go right, but anyway its cool

EDIT: also I got 20fps on my 1533Mhz processor . Use boxes for bullets btw!

Always have, never will =)

The problem could be caused by too little video memory (or an invalid graphics mode).
Very nice by the way - I think the draw distance could be a bit further away though...

Yes, but you can allocate various amounts to the video memory in the nVidia setup - I've done it myself so that all games refused to run - if the value is invalid then it could be causing a problem.

I haven't changed any of the defaults from what was installed and setup by the driver. I looked over the settings. Most are set to let the application decide (i.e. antialising, etc). I do not see, however, any particular memory allocating schemes except for "Maximum system memory for PCI mode texture:". Set to 95 MB? Not sure what that is...

Just to update everyone, The game's progress had slowed a bit due to the fact that i got a buncha new games (hey, bedroom programmers have lives too ) Anyways Jus like to say and post a couple of things.

Firstly in terms of screenshots, i haven't got much to show in terms of graphics (too busy coding the level editor which is giving me absulute hell ) but I've put in a title screen and implemented braking.

The back and front image are rips from the Rom (I own it legally by the way ) and are mearly placeholders.

Braking, not much...........

Second, i no this is not the forum but if anyone has any free time to help or contribute to the project by making/coding media then please feel free too as it'll help speed things up and give me less of a workload to do.

Thanks

Also, it is illegal to use copyright names when you don't own it. For example, your main menu screen.

As i said before the menu rips are mearly place holders until i can design my own one . And the names are there because this is a Retro Remake, I'll put "Name StarFox is Copright blah blah" Right now to stop legal issues and pray that nintendo won't sue me

The models and game stuff is overall superb right now.....plz do NOT stop making this game! This is so exciting to me! Ahh, I remembered the time when I rented Starfox 64 and it was great. Tell me, are you going to include some of the sick features of the immortal Starfox 64?

No, just because I eat haggis does'nt mean I'm from Scotland!

I wont include a "what i'm going to have" feature list as it'll just overhype the game but it does include at the mo is:

+ Cockpit and Normal View

+ Everything the arwing can do i.e Boost, brake, roll, barrel roll, shoot

and trying to make a level editor to make life easy (which is hellish at the moment

Thats it and ok for 1-2 weeks of work

And i won't stop making it, i MIGHT get distracted but i'll then just come back to it.

And finnaly I'm trying to incorporate as many features as i can into the game (possible LAN/Internet Multiplayer, who knows?) to the best of my abilities.

Well, you failed about keeping people hyped up, because I am so freakin' excited! Especially about the Multiplayer and level editor. Sorry, but the words that you spoke will most definately hype anyone who has ever played a flight game!

You probably want to optimize it! I get 30FPS, you must be aiming on top-end machines

Its funny that the SNES is faster than a 1ghz+ cpu with darkbasic

The arwing was ok but i'll use my one instead because it's closer to the actual design of the Snes game but thanks anyway.I won't be focusing on models for a while until the coding is finished.

While playing the demo I noticed that if you make the plane lean completly to the right and shoot the bullets shoot downwards into the water instead of forwards. Also at one moment i was flying under the water. I can see that the project's moving smoothly and i can't wait for the finished game to be ready.

Exellent job !!!

Julian: I've fixed that on the latest version i have, but the demo version still has that.

Kequor: It's getting there but it's still not close enough. Forget about it, i don't need the model yet, I only requested a new arwing model cause i was getting bored of mine . And Like i said before, Graphics are not my main priority, the coding is.

Baal: I locked it a 30fps because the original game ran at 20fps and 60fps is too fast and doesn't feel like starfox.

Now i'm going back to playing Starfox to get some reference, ideas and other stuff.

Cheerio!

Note: I'm not going to update for a while until i can get something worth showing up
