Hi everybody. Some minor updates on the game. Was very busy...

In order to give a mysterious atmosphere to the level, I've created a skydome where you can find some strange symbols dancing around the player with some light effects in order to have them appearing & disappearing.

I also impmemented the track made by Coldnews! Amazing what a music track can do. Simply beautiful...

Here some screens of the new sky.

Created skydome for the level 5
Created a new model of the level. (Changes in the structures that grabs the long banners)
Added the music track reated by Coldnews on Level 5
Created textures for the skydome
Added 2d long banner & automatic routine for the loading of the 12 structures.
Final Render of "Kalimee" animated script for the intro.
Final render of the Part1 animated script for the intro
Final render of the part 2 animated script for the intro

Concerning your game:
From what I see, I don't know if this should be mearly known as a game. I think INTERACTIVE ART would be a better way of describing it.
The screen shots are beutiful!

Concerning the slow load time:
Converting your BMPs to PNGs and JPGs may actually speed up your loading time. Basically it would mean less loading data from your hard drive. (smaller files take less time to load by definition)

yeah, latest screenshot looks great. I think that there shouldnt really be a genre attatched to this because its DAMN original and I think trying to make a genre for it removes the idea of the game. The concept is great and the Beta's I played are damn smooth.
By the way I've been playing around with a few more track ideas. I've got a few more that I will upload onto the website for you to listen to if you like. I will do that Sunday afternoon.

Here are 2 screens with a BioSphere.

Here are 1 screen with a SKYBOX.

If you look on the pics you'll see a fps rate of 51/52 on the first 2 poctures & a fps set on 11 on the last one. This is due to the fact I ran the game on 2 different machines & one of them is a old old old one!

Finalized the Chy musictrack (Normalizazion & added hidden effects + loop compatibility)
Loading sequence for L5 changed
First modeling (beginn) of the L6
Creation (on paper) of the enigmas in the L6
Terminated the 12 long banners
Redefinition of the 30 sprites for the player interface

... to be continued ...

The font is big, so it goes off-screen.

Woohoo! Great work. This is going to be fantastic! Its looking amazing. Sorry I havent been in touch much, I've been REALLY busy in my workplace. I've got a second track started and the bass done on the first track and I'm just about to put an idea down for the 3rd track. How many levels do you plan to have again just so I know. If you give me estimated completion times of the levels (ie. like when you told me how long level 5 will take!) then I'll be able to tailor the music to suit the levels. also if you email me a list of the level themes and what type of ideas you want then I'll do that for you. (even if you use words like "floaty" or "evil" or something, I'll be able to understand!!)
Other than that, level 6 looks absolutely amazing. The wall textures and lighting especially.
[edit] I've just put a link to your site from mine.

Ilya : Just have a look in the thread & you will find the link to load the missing font.
once added in the Font folder, start again & you'll see the difference.
There was an install bug that doesn't take count of the font. But this will be corrected in the next release of the demo.

Chy: I've read your entry in the Blog. I full understand your feeling... sometimes I feel the same... But as French people says... "C'est la vie...".
We are the operators of our life & we have to find the way. Maybe a day... may be never... this is the secret we never know. (Anyway... this is not the right place for this huh?)

Thanks for all the kind comments about the game. As usual you made my day!!

For the levels, I've not a defined plan... I'm just following my Instinct & a pseudo-scenary, but nothing defined yet.
I think there must be at least 20-30 levels. More or less difficults.
For the level 5 I know that the player will walk around for at least one hour.
The level 5 has also 5 hidden extra puzzles!

The level 6 will be the enter of the castle. so the player has to solve a sort of Master-mind (!!) on 3 levels. So I guess the whole level can be done in 15 minutes. (But not programmed yet... I need to work on many drawings, models & functions)
The level 7... still don't know exactly for the moment... just an idea.

But This week-end I want to set a list on paper, I think it's the best way for me to manage them...
When I remember the start of the game, I just would do some easy puzzles like the level 1 & I sorted out with the actual game.
As soon as I've a list I'll send you.

If interested for the music of the level 6 here some info about the level:
- Entering in the castle, the player is in a room closed by a door. The player has to open 3 doors in order to continue.
- Puzzle is a sort of Master-mind
- after that.... have to work on

Hi everybody...
Those days I'm working hard on the Collision functions ( ) & the development of the L6 models.
In the meantime I updated the Kalimée side of my site & added a Digital Download of the first soundtrack of the game.

As I will need to buy some add-ons & software to be able to continue with my project & that I cannot afford the whole amount, I just added a "Support" page where anyone can support the development buying the Digital Single. (2 versions & the slipcase).

If you want to have a look at the page & have a preview of the music, just click on the link below:

http://www.vues3d.com/ke_music1.htm

or

http://www.vues3d.com/ke_index.htm

Some new pics of the L6 will be posted today during the jurney.

Cheers

Today is a great day! (For me... ! )
After some weeks (& maybe months) of hard work, I finally get out with a beautiful sliding collision routine.
Thanx to some code snippets, examples, explanations... I have now a nice collision routine that works on all .x - .dbo files!
The player will walk through the model with the mouse (I'm also thinking to add the arrowkeys function)
I also finally done the modifications on player interface.
With this function I had some troubles.
In fact, I have 2 sets of pictures (.jpg & .bmp).
When I loaded the JPG pictures & gave them the black transparencies, I always had some black dots on the borders of the sprite & was really awfull. I just changed the .jpg to .bmp & the sprite is perfect!
Fortunately, the sprites are really small & they will no take more than 250kb in total...

So, now, I decided to give some modifications on the world of the first level...
After this, have to finish the build of the whole level 3 that has been changed again (due to the implementation of the newest collision routine).

So, before the release of the first 5 levels beta release I have to:

Modify Level 1 World (Add a REAL Biosphere - or SkyBox) & create a terrain that will sourround the main model.
Level 2 needs a better smoothed exit
Level 3 has to be rebuild & have implemented the new collision routine
Level 4 is totally finished
Level 5 needs just the implementation of the new sliding collision, the navigation between the Pavillions

So... as It should take 1 or 2 weeks for the modifications, I ask to everyone who would like to BetaTest the firsts 5 WHOLE levels to see on the main DarkBasicPro thread & search for the one "Kalimee - Beta Testers needed" & answer to the thread.

So...
I finally begann the remodeling of the level 1.
For this, I used the VanB method of his "Hlydays" example...

VanB, hope you are OK with my idea to use the way you build the world, in this case, I just kept the Memblocks code to generate the terrain because I really don't exactly understand the way memblocks works. I spent part of the night trying to understand, made examples & get NO results... :-( but if you're not OK I use part of your code, just tell me, I will find another way to get the result. Also, if I can, I just would like to know How could I make disappear the light corner that you can see in the 2d picture. I tryied to reduce/increase the skybox, but result is still a bit imperfect... if you have a clue, it will be really appreciated.

Without my collision routine, I get a 90fps rate, once added my collision routine, I get 49 fps... So I guess i should have a look to my collision routine to make it a bit more faster...

So now I need to translate the world building for the new level, but I guess it will be terminated tomorrow (also because I'm on holydays!!! )

Here some new screens of the brand new level 1!!

Hi there!!!
Just a little post to say for those who is interested in Kalimée's world, that the movie "Au delà des mers" is ready to download.

This is a 3.45 minutes length movie I was creating from 2 years now. Rendered several times same scenes & took a while to obtain a decent quality/bandwith result. The music have been created for the movie, but will also be used for the game.

For the lazy boys, I put a 320 X 240 .wmv file for a direct download from here (9.5Mb):
http://www.vues3d.com/film/addm_320.wmv

A full screen (800 X 600) version is waiting you on my site.
To have a look on the movi page of my site (21Mb), just follow the link:
http://www.vues3d.com/e_film.htm
English

http://www.vues3d.com/f_film.htm
Français

http://www.vues3d.com/i_film.htm
Italiano

Any comment is naturally welcome!

About "Kalimée"... I'm still remodeling the level 1 wich is much longer than I thought.
(also waiting about the release of the new Upgrade... seems that there will be some new useful commands...)

Have a nice New 2005! Wish you all my best wishes for the next brand new year & wish all your projects will be acclaimed!

Quote: "Added:
This a shot taken from the level 6 where I'm trying many ways to get plants with a minimum lost of FPS. As for now I found that an Alpha plane with png pic is the best way to go. To have a light blur & whole transparencies on the plane I used the object transparency set to 3 (instead of 4 for the grass that needs a Full transparency)

Hey Vues,
No worries about using anything from the holiday demo - any source or media I upload is public domain, so it's anybodies that wants it.

I'm not sure what you mean by light corner - could you post a close up screenie (or email me if you'd prefer), should be possible to fix whatever's causing it.

P.S. Games looking awesome by the way!.

This time I spent many days for the creation of an algorithm to encrypt medias.
Radically changed the way the game handles the media files where each level is indipendent.
In this case, each time I will make a new demo, the testers will need to load only the new .exe file & the new level files where they could be downloaded separately.

This is the screen of the level 6. Still working on the modeling.

Created the encrypting algorithm
Created the File deleting routine (This is the part used to erase file that have been unpacked)
Terminated the intermediate level 2
Rendering the new version of the exit movie (part2) from the level 1
Modeled a new tree (the red one in the picture) for the level 6
Created a lot of stones for the level 6
Created a function for the repository of the media files
NEW DEFINITIVE MOUSE ICON
Rendered a new sky for the level 1 (same as before, but now the picture is 2048 X 2048) the quality have been increased
Converted all the files to make them lighter for the Menu site, level 1 & level 2
Terminated the final model of the level 3 (But still have problems with it. I now get 13FPS for this level & I have to find a way to make it more faster. In this case I guess I will have to delete the 2 movie screens on the level & handle the animation playing in another way)
Beginn of the release of a new Beta for the whole levels 1 & 2 (Should be OK for tomorrow or at worst, for Tuersday)

'morning everybody...

As someone told me that the level was a bit "empty" I just spent the most of the evening REMODELING (Again!!!) my transition level.
So now I've added a new room where the player must find an hidden object... & cannot access to the next level without it.

Here below there is a pic of the room without the object!
You can also have a look to the movie that gives an idea of what the level looks like. (But I intentionnally hidden some parts of it in order to discover other stuffs when trying the Beta version! )

Get also the final Pointer (there was some unkind borders around it... so now it looks quite good)

Hi all!

I think that this game will kill me a day!
Each time I think a bug/problem is solved... I get a brand new one!
So I spent my last (MANY MANY) days preparing the final version of the first 3 levels.
I changed at least 3 times the transition to the enter/exit of the 2d level. rendered 2 times the cinematic for this... & get several problems in the managment of the media files that are compressed.

This means that...

Level 1 Done (Bug with text)
Level 2 Done (Have to add the hidden clue)
Level 2 added a new painting & a new pic for the exit.
Converted files for L1, L2. (L3 not done yet)
Solved the bug for the main menu (I got some blue screens between choices)

... here's a pic of the exit from the transition level between L1 & L2. I put a new picture done by "Bern" an excellent artis from the site "Renderosity" that gaves me the right to use some of his paintings for Kalimée...
His gallery: http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Yes&Artist=bern

TADA!!!!!!!

Just announcing that tomorrow morning (EUROPE time) you'll be able to load the BETA of the first 4 Levels.
The Beta is quite a heavy file. the setup .exe file is 90Mb (once installed it will be 125Mb). So, the first arrived will be able to load the game because I have to reduce the number of downloads. (I guess only 6-7 persons would be able to load it).
In the meantime I'm looking for another hosting server that will allow me to download the Game for an unlimited bandwidth but it will be only availiable from next monday. So, don't be angry if you'll not be able to load it & don't flame me!

More informations about it... TOMORROW!!!!
I think you can imagine I'm a bit proud to present it also because now I can focalize my work on the next levels... & that I will finally have a concrete feed-back from all of you that supported my project sending mails or writing nice stuffs on this thread!!!!!!

All I hope is that you'll like it!

Hi there!
Between two boxes, I had the time to implement the map for the level 5.
This will be a bit complicated (for me) because the map needs to be recreated each time the player enters in a new Pavillion.

So, I take the opportunity to ask if someone has an idea on how to do it in a best way...

I explains:

The map is generated from a picture that is used to made the banner.
Each time the players enters in a NEW pavillion, a piece of the map is added to the whole picture.
Theorically, I should copy the part of the original picture (The final map) I want to add on the banner, paste it, and recreate a new picture from this to generate the new one.
I just had a try & I encountered a problem in the earliests tries.
I see the static picture on the screen (& shouldn't...).
(In advance, thanx to all of you that will have ideas!)

Quote: "THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED"

For those who wants to see on what the level is looking like, just have a look to this little movie: http://www.vues3d.com/kalimee/kalimee2.avi

Soon I will have my new apartement (1 week!!!!) I will have enough time to continue this project & publish the official site for the game!!

... finally I found a way to have the map built in hidden mode.
I just understood now how the "Set Current Bitmap" & "Create bitmap" can help creating hidden pictures!! Was the time.
So this commands helped me a lot & now the Level 5 is officially Completed.

Next step will be the Level 6 but this will be done in 3 weeks.

Level 5 will take between 5 & 20 minutes to be completed.

Hiya,
Sorry I didn't see this thread before!

The game looks very nice, judging by your video and screens that is - forgive my ignorance and lazyness, but what is the aim of the game? To stop the various objects from rotating?

Certainly looks like an interesting project - seems like it could be a good stress killing game Thoughts of Van Gogh also came to me...
Don't lose heart on this project.

Dumbo and Cool - DEFINATELY coming July 31st.
Also in development: Oddworld RTS, A Wonderful Thing and Scarecrow
