I wanted to rotate someof the older Judges out, and let a few new ones in this time. People who judge always have the option of returning next month, or let new people have a shot at it.

Well, first of all, the people who will be considered for judging will have to have been a member for a period of time, with a good record on the forums (i.e., not blowing up on other members, repeatedly breaking the forum rules, etc.).

Secondly, it depends on who is running that month's competition; although Ozark Games will most likely always host the entries, one of us may not always be running the next competition.

i can run the competition too,as i got 1 GB of webspace.and i can make FTP accounts anyway.

so if you cant host it,i can

and there you got some valuable points that must be token into consideration when choosing a judge.it cant be just anyone...

I think the people who host the contest should actually be mature enough to see it through. Most children will be very excited about hosting a contest, find out its not very fun to organize, lose interest and let the contest die out.

Iam not aiming this statement at any one, so please dont come moaning to me, because you read it and thought it was aimed at you.

it could be aimed at me.but still, you got a point higgins, most people think its very much fun to host a contest, well.it isnt much fun...its more the honor you get for it that makes it fun.

You should have ran it through a word processor, because the site has the feeling a child made it, no offence.

Great, thanks Jon; I'll add it.

It's not a bad start, for a free site; Max. But you'll see how I present the Contest in the new Ozark Games site in about a week's time.

Hi Keith C,
A question: Is there a checklist kinda thing for judges that they will see in a game? If there is may be you can tell us so that we can concentrate on those points? I know it should be horror with puzzle element? But.. hmmm to simplify.. there will be set criteria, like storyline, graphics, etc.

I hope I was clear enough

Will someone with custom stuff like enemies, etc. be weighted more than someone using stuff that comes with FPSC ?

Thanks
Prince

Well, the judges will be taking into account such things as lighting, layout, lag (although we all know that this engine is rather prone to that at times), originality, etc.; as well as the theme of the competition. The checklist will be for the judges eyes only. If someone takes the time to create custom work, then I'm sure it will reflect in their score. For those who don't do custom work, they can make up for it in their level design and layout (especially with the puzzle element).

Hello again KeithC,

Well it seems I have run into another question regarding the competition. Are we allowed to include an application which the player/judge could load, to allow them to customize the ingame keys; which afterwards the program would load the level?

Thanks for any assistance on this issue.

You can use any thing to pack your games, its the content that is judged, not the packaging.

Iam going to use FPS Pack to pack my game.

Thank you Keith C. That helps. I was just of the opinion that if everyone knows the checklist than it will be lot more tougher and people might come up with better quality results.

The problem with checklists, is that it will (if only unintentionally) affect creativity. People would be making games based on a checklist, instead of the criteria I gave coupled with their imagination. I can see you point, but that's the way we're going to do this one. The next person to organize this may have a different approach.

Ok, good to know that we can include a program to do that.

Thank you for clearing that up for me Higgins and KeithC.

Indeed, I completely agree. I would rather see games that time was spent on everything rather than just parts of the game. Otherwise it would really seem kinda of mechanical in the creation process.

Keith C,
One more question if you can answer please. As you said you will need written permission from the owner if we use any custom stuff. For free stuff like sound or images to use for game music or making custom signs, what is the procedure to acknowledge or is it necessary to mention the website to give the credit for the free stuff that we include in our games?

Please clarify

Thanks

Written Permission

You need to have permission from the owner, to use their free media in your game. So email that person and ask them for clear permission to use the media.

OK, I've clarified it in the rules. I originally meant to convey that you needed to have written permission to use someone else's media, if it wasn't specified already in an attached license agreement. Thanks for pointing that out.

I have no idea what's going on in October, or if I'll even be running it. Thanks for the offer though. The winner of the competition will always have the option to become a judge (making them exempt from competing, of course), so you should enter this one.

Ok, my I've just finished my entry today. It's actually my second try. The first one got lost due to my hard drive crashing and dying 2 weeks ago. So I has to rebuild the complete level (only used custom made textures for the whole level).

looking forward to receiving the details where to upload my entry,

Dang Ben!

I stuck to stock! It looks pretty cool though. Spent hours doing the sound. Had no idea how to finish it. it's actually not very scary... or hugely puzzly... it's just weird!
