-no name yet- LEGO RPG
WIP GAME by Hurricane-Eye Entertainment

Visit also: Pacman Challenge, LANdvantiX, DarkLEGO - BlockCAD in DBPro, LEGO mmorpg, My website

This is my current wip game. It's a LEGO rpg in the time of the colonies/pirates in the caribbean. Here a video of the 1st test level with the main character, and some other people walking around randomly. The models and textures were created based on scans of my little brothers LEGOs.

Here's also a video of another 2d Lego shooter game, I made with GAME MAKER 6.1 and never finished.

Aaah, Lego games...
I made a lot of different Lego games when I was like 10 years old, instead of buying the official ones.

Good luck on this!

This looks ace. Well done.
The jumping reminds me of Jet Set Willy too, which is nice.

I love legos... my age olny means I own less.

This looks good so far, the jumping felt very legoish in humor.

Having the lego dots on the terrain would be good

so, should I make the whole world out of legos? if so, the dots couldn't be objects, but an a bit higher placed transparent texture.

if I make the world with lego, the polycount would be much higher and I wouldn't be so free with world design.

...I don't know, as I already said, this is only a test level and I'm open for changes.

What do you guys think?

I think the world should be realististic, and all the buildings / characters / vehicles etc, should be legos.

It looks great man! I like it alot.

Maybe you should model the world but consistently add bits and pieces of Lego to make it look more Lego realistic!
Looks great! I lovce the shading on your character!

Very cool! You've also got a nice selection of lego guys. Lots of the older ones!

It would be cool to have lego everywhere- you could do it with a level of detail system, but you'd be making a lot of work for yourself when you don't need to. I think the Lego Star Wars games don't have everything lego.

nicely done! i made lego models in milkshape once, they didn't come out as good as that you've done areal good job remodelling those figures though, i recognize havign a few of them and the way they wander around aimlessly like all the other lego games.. superb!

i think you could just have the Lego dots on the terrain as a texture, make them into a bump map to make it look as though they are raised. that way you don't have to reduce your polys. also i think all the building should be Lego, it keeps with the style of all the classic Lego games.

thanks to deathead for the sig!

If he's going to do nubbed terrain, then he ought to make it low poly as well, so it looks like Lego baseplates... like...

that's really difficult...

I will never be that free with the world to make hills, cliffs, forests, caves and such.

I think I'll make it like those guys from LEGO star wars 1 and 2: the important, good looking things wich exist or are buildable with legos, will be legos ingame, and the rest will be "realistic". But for now, I'll keep my test world part like it is and will go to add enhanced anims., shooting/attacking animations, more clothes, weapons, and such. I hope this game will turn out well...

Another question: will I have copyright problems because I use legos to make a game? Will I be able to sell it? How would I ask the LEGO group if I can make this game? thank you for answers

EDIT: @ Agent Dink
I have those LEGO ground plates too

You won't be able to sell it, unless of course you perhaps contacted Lego and maybe sold it through them, but I'd seriously doubt that being possible.

wow Master Xilo, that really is incredible. I think you could sell both games to LEGO. they might want to change a bit like put in logos, and change the menus, but other than that the only thing that you should change is lego dudes screaming when they die in the 2-d game. they want to sell it to children and the yelling might scare them.

what?

If you're planning on selling it contact Lego right away about it. Otherwise you will probably waste a ton of time on a game that you cannot sell, if that's your goal.

And even then...

Some companies don't even let you give away a game similar to something they're doing, as it has the chance to prevent people from buying their games.

have you ever considered talking to the Lego Company about a job with this kinda stuff?
