VERSION 2 - Preview

As for Legommo, I still work on v2 sometimes. You can now drop the things you carry on the floor, you have coins, the engine has a scripting system, there's a new weather: snow, the terrain is a ETXYZ map and so on...

I don't know why, but sometimes it crashes between these lines:
(I can see the "fonts message" then I get a "Doesn't work anymore" message from windows)
Why only sometimes? (It seems to happen because of that d3d plugin)

A not very much saying wip shot:

Go to the end of this video to see the new enemies in v2:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDEg8znuNMw

Looks neat I don't think I could host but possibly test. I recommend you do add some NPC's though, as it would be hard to get off the ground without them.

Uhm,why not implenting the world you made in BlockCAD?that looks more lego like...then this.

Anyway,NPC's are a good idea.as this looks empty.

ok, I'll again run a server on my computer and update the ip always for the rest of today (@ The Full Metal Coder Roxas : I could have a static ip adress, but that would cost again the half of my internet connection costs)

I'm on a super-slow dial-up connection here which of course changes my ip every time I connect, but I still manage to host my MMORPG server for testing; and this is how: http://devaug.com/files/hostip.txt

Every time that I want to try out my mmo I update that page with the info I get from here: http://whatismyip.org/

Then I use this function in the client so that other people can connect to my ip:

I made that based on IanM's GetIP function:

Anywho, this looks sweet! My brother and I are big fans of lego so I'll follow this one.

I know this way, I use this for the "automatic" updating system, where the version is stored in a downloaded file and it looks if your program has this version. But do you need to update the file ip-file manually or is there a way to automatically upload someting???????????

EDIT: because otherwise, It doesn't do anything for me

I do it manually as I don't often do public tests, but you could easily get the server to grab your IP and upload it via FTP at start-up.

I just got an error message saying "You don't have the latest version" then it locked up my PC.

Where do you get lego models from?

I made all them myself, look @ lego rpg.

Sry, I changed something in the file it downloads to check if you have newest version for testing. But if the "You don't have the latest version" massage appears, it should open this thread if you klick OK. Strange...

EDIT: anyway I'll post soon the new version 1.1 with auto updating system and a server running on my pc.

Instructions:
Download the .zip and place the two files in the zip into your LEGOmmorpg folder and run the AutoUpdate.exe (this will be the ONLY time that you start this program). The update 1.2 will be downloaded, this may take some time.

######################update v1.2######################
now, I have a server running on my computer and you'll be able to join it because it uploads all 5 minutes my current internet ip adress to an ftp server

This looks cool. Did you model your characters from scratch or did you make them with a special lego-model making program, such as BlockCAD?

As for your 100,000 player limit, DBP can only support 256 on one server (if I remember correctly)

What you can do, if this actually publishes and becomes a MMO, is host maybe 10 high speed servers. Then have the program check to see if a server is full and then connect to the next server, and so on.

Grr... says I dont have the 'd3dx9_32.dll'. I'll go download it...

(sorry for double post)

EDIT: Nevermind I got it. Here's a tip: When making games, put the actual game executable in a folder called Plugins or Drivers or whatever. Also put d3dx9_32.dll in there with it. Then make a simple executable that is only 3 lines long.

Hope I helped!

Winsock can support 3000+, Multisync can support (Unlimited perhaps?) , DBP only 256 but who even uses its network commands they are slow and only good for turnbased network games..

( I download the new version and try it )

When I run the autoupdate it always stops downloading just past halfway. It's really annoying.

EDIT: Disregard what I just said. I only had to wait 20 minutes for it to finish.

I have to ask, what plugin did you use for the windows messages, the loading bar, etc?

What multiplayer product are you using? Did you write the autoupdate system or was it part of it? I ask because I need an auto updater for mine

Made your own lego models, well all I can say is WOW! They look as good as the commercial stuff! Well done, what package did you use to make them? I realy want to get into making my own animated models but had no luck so far with the animation part.

GatorHex,

For the autoupdate I would suggest Mnemonix's LiveUpdate plugin.

Look here: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=65711&b=5

I dont know what Xilo uses but the LiveUpdate plugin works great.

Thanx for the info i'll check it out.

I wonder if Mnemonix knows all his web site says is "UR NOT COMEDIEN" (hacked?)

I thought multisysnc was only limited by the number of ports which is 16bit / 65k in reality though it's hard to handle real time game with more than 500-1000 players without getting into grid computing.

You need to try multiple times sometimes, if my Ip changed, i doesn't upload it directly, only all 5 minutes. As client, you don't need to open the ports.

Quote: "Multisync has a client limit of 16384."

I just said 100'000 because my array to store the player data could handle 100000 players. I didn't know how much players Multisync can handle.

Quote: "What multiplayer product are you using? Did you write the autoupdate system or was it part of it? "

Multisync. I wrote the update system fully myself. The main program always checks if it has the newest version, wich it dowloads from a file I can change (EDIT: link). If it hasn't got the newest version, it looks how many versions it needs to dowload and writes them to a temporary file. Then it starts AutoUpdate.exe wich dowloads the needed "Update instruction files" from my website host wich contain commands that tell the program all the things it needs to download, delete or copy. Here is the one of version 1.2:
http://www.freewebs.com/hurricane-eyeentetainment/Legommorpgupdates/update1_2.txt

For download, I use the "urlmon" dll function "URLDownloadToFileA".

EDIT: for the ip upload, i got some free ftp space somwhere and I use the db ftp commands to upload automatically my internet ip wich i get automatically from whatsmyip.

Quote: "Well done, what package did you use to make them?"

I made them with anim8or and Milkshape.

Quote: "I have to ask, what plugin did you use for the windows messages, the loading bar, etc?"

Loading bar: "DarkSideProgressBar.dll"
Windows messages: "MessageBox.dll", "DBProWinDlg.dll", "wingui.dll"

Is the exe that is requesting the update you main program. What do you do if you want to update it? Because it's running you can't delete/replace it. I was thinking about writing my own but wasn't sure how to get around this problem or ensure the user click the right exe if there was 2 exes

Perhaps, but in this way, I made it myself.

the main program starts the AutoUpdate.exe and updates the main program and the other files.

No, it runs right now, try again. I already said the thing about the changing ip and the fact, that it only updates it all 5 minutes.

Others were able to connect.
