Sorry bout' that...

@F l a t l a n d e r

Quote: "Using the action command "destroy" will not explode it. The way it is written it is not meant to explode the entity (whatever it is), it is just to delete the entity as an object from the game. So, this really isn't a bug with the "destroy" command. A new action command must either be added by Lee or added within a mod."

Yeah, I know.... I used the word "destroy" as a substitution for something other than "shooting" to kill, I've actually tried a wide range of things (none of which work)... guess I should have worded better.

@CoffeeGrunt
Quote: "You could always set its health to something stupidly high, then use the subhealth command..."

Uhh... Unfortunately, I've tried (right out of the gate, actually). That's one of the problems concerning me. It used to work with v1.14 and below, but seemed to poop out with v1.15... It still doesn't work in v1.16

@Plystire
Quote: "...Firstly, when an entity (I've only tried barrels) are set to explode (I've only tried via trigger zone) the just delete themselves without anything, let alone a bang...."

Quote: "Both of those are source related bugs. They are inherent to the source that Lee gave us. According to him, though, they will be fixed in the new source. Sorry, but there's nothing I can do about it until then."

You get so many messages, you probably just forgot.

....

Yeah, my BETTER WORDED bug is: For some reason, when I try to blow something up by shooting it, it blows up but when I try with a script (subtracting a boat load of health from it, destroying it, even other more interesting ways) the entity seems to just disappear without actually exploding. I've used things I've scripted in the past, that used to work, but now they just won't... No decal, no sound, no damage... just gone.

@Anyone with a thesaurus
Any synonyms for "destroy" I can use that don't technically mean "destroy"?

This is probably a silly question, but I've found that updates tend to set everything back to default. Is the entity set to explodable and the strength something other than 0?

@ Wraith Staff

I really am not sure what you want/need. I have created a command that when you walk into a trigger zone it will set off an explosion of either a non-character or character entity. Download attached video.

So, is this what you are looking for?

EDIT:

As with most bugs in FPSC... I fixed it by running the cleaner like 9001 times out of frustration. My script was good... The engine just needed a bit of scrubbing Sorry to waste everyone's time...

Lee, I have a BAD bug.
On certain levels, when I use the arrow keys to navigate through the map in the editor, not testgame, It will freeze up.
It also does that when switching layers on these levels.

@Wraith Staff

Edit: Just saw your new post regarding it now working for you. Actually you didn't waste my time because I've always want to add this ability/feature. I also added a simple command to hide an entity and then show the entity again. I think this could be useful.

What you are experiencing is not a bug. What I was able to accomplish cannot be accomplished with any scripting in v115 or v116. The only way it can be accomplished is through actually shooting the entity. This triggers an event that will lead to an explosion.

What I had done is create a new command for my RPG mod that will do this. You have to have v115 and my mod in order to accomplish this. When Lee releases the source code for v116, I will then update my mod to that version. I don't know how else to explain this. The following is the code I use (and other modders can use this as well.

I basically gleaned the necessary code from Lee's source code that will create the effect wanted and used the action command: rpg_explodeentity to initiate it rather than a bullet initiating it. Then all I need is a script that is like the following:

A trigger zone is used to activate the entity's script.

Perhaps, hockeykid will add this to his mod.

Beta 11

Now back on topic. I have v116.11 on another computer. The remote door still has the same issue of course. After opening the remote door with the switch, saving the level and then reloading it the door is closed however, collision is off so that player can walk through it.

Another issue. I don't believe this was a problem with beta 9. When you reload the game the switch texture is not the same or complete. Here are the pictures. Download the FPM with the download button.

Before saved level

After saved level

Edit: Forgot fpm. Now attached

I was going to suggest to decrease the rendering of the map. However, it looks like it is always fully rendered. I would guess that this was not a problem with X10 because a newer computer with VISTA would have been used.

However, Lee, with older computers, such as the one I'm testing this on, we need to have ability to decrease the rendering. (I'm not sure what it's called because I'm on a different computer now.)

When I load up the first scifi level, it doesn't hang up as it does with GJ on some levels but it is sure slow and jerky when I go from one area to another using the arrow keys.

No, I don't have that problem. What is your CPU?

I am testing this on an older Compaq computer (before HP bought them). I have 1.43 GB of RAM. My processor speed is 2.2 GHz and has 512KB of cache. A VisionTek Radeon X1300 Series Video card.

Does anyone have any issues with adjusting the ambiance in game. It seems that only the < key works and you have to cycle all the way dark to get back to light. I use the keys a a lot to take screen shots.

I checked the > key in other programs and it works. It's not my keyboard.

@General Jackson

I am back at the computer that has v116 Beta 11. I do not see any tool bar keys or menu items that allows you to adjust the rendering shroud of the map editor. Can you please tell me where they are so I can test it with this computer.

@xplosys

I am about finished porting over enough entity, segment, and etc. files to start testing extensively beta 11. I will check to see if the ambiance keys work or not for me.

Addendum:

I hate to say it but I have no problem with the ambiance keys. I tested them with scifi level 1 both test and build.

Arenas: this current update will add stability and unify some behind-the-scenes code of X9 and X10. It has been stated that no new features will be added yet.

ctrl + scrolling the mouse wheel.

I had noticed that the whole level was now rendered by default, which I much prefer.

So do I. Thanks for letting me know. That was probably in the manual. You know books, books are bad.

Lee, I am not getting the slow down with navigating the map editor with the arrow keys like I did before. I forgot that this older computer that I'm testing on slows down when the video card gets too hot. I don't have an on-board fan and have to let the comp fan do its thing before I continue.

If "ctrl + scrolling the mouse wheel" is how i can make the render shroud smaller in the editor then I am out of luck on my laptop.

This last update gives me a generic error that says FPSC has to close. It happens while I am working on a level or when I open the program. It has not happened when I close the program.

Yet.

EDIT:
V116 Beta11

When I save the game I get the following error and the built game crashes.

"Runtime Error 1002 - Bitmap does not exist at line 30908"

When I try to load the game that was saved I get the following error.

"Runtime Error 105 - File does not exist at line 31065"
-------------------------------
EDIT:
When building a game. I hit the little button next to the "New" button and choose an FPG file and it lets me build the game.

I hit the new button and type the name of a new FPG file and hit enter. The name of the new file does not appear in the box and no other button works after that. I can switch tabs but that is all. I have to Ctl-Alt-Del and end task on both FPSCreator and the Editor to close it. There is no error that pops up at all.

Hi Lee

I'm getting this error message when I'm playing a built game. It appears to happen during combat.

"Runtime Error 118 - Array does not exist or array subscript out of bounds at line 5819"

It does appear to be ramdom and can happen on any level that I play. Also I can play through the game and complete it with no error message.
