I'm still getting the 'object doesn't exist at line...' error and a game crash whenever I try to pick up a weapon in a built game w/water - beta 9

@Crimson Night

I took the water room sample and had the colt 45 as default weapon. Then I put in the room an mp40. I first ran a test level. OK. I then built a stand-along game and ran that. OK. BTW, I did pick up the mp40 and it did not crash.

Now, I had compiled the FPSC-game.exe using all of the beta 10 fixes that are available up to now. This might mean that it is fixed for beta 10 or that I cannot duplicate it. I'm hoping if there was an issue with this it has been fixed.

Here is a silly question, but does the spawn sound in the voices folders only work in multiplayer???

I only ask because I tried to make a custom voice for my player, but the spawn sound never plays in a single player game when I spawn. (getting killed or starting the level)

It has been so long since I played with the voices that I cannot remember if the spawn is only for multiplayer or not.

Thanks in advance

Quote: "This patch is a great boon for FPSC, especially since 64bit OS's are becoming mainstream now, those extra 2+ gigs of headroom are great when building the game. Last time I checked, all new computers sold at retail are now loaded with 64bit Win7."

Awe man, now I need a new computer again.

Oh well, this one flakes out now and then anyway.
I hope they can get the power consumption down for the high end graphics in the future.
I am trying to run on less power, not more.

Thanks for testing, it's weird that no one else has reported this error - where can I download beta 10? I'll see if that works for me...

Beta 10 is not officially released. So you can't download it yet. Sorry. It will probably be released sometime this week; but, don't take my word for it.

What version of FPSC. If v1.18 which beta?
How are your preferences set?
Has it worked before in a previous version? Which version?

What are your computer specs? RAM? Graphics card?

Is there anyway for the setup.ini to stop resetting itself after each time I play a level in FPSC? I change the memory capoff to 1, but once I exit my test game, it reverts back to 0.

Try to quit FPSC, then make and save changes in setup.ini ad then launch FPSC again. Better?

When I run into this, I run the cleaner, restart the computer and then make the changes. Usually this does the trick.

I need help! I patched FPSC-Game.exe and FPSC-MapEditor.exe with the 4GB patch and now I get this problem (see attached screeny.) I tried reinstalling 1.18 but that didn't fix the problem. I even did a system restore to a point before using the patch. Can someone please help!

@Susysyay,
1: do you have a 64 bit system. ie: windows xp, vista, 7 x64?
2: did you turn off the memory cap in the set up .ini?
3: from the error you posted, Im guessing it is a hardware problem.

Yes, I have windows 7 64-Bit Home Premium. I have 4GB DDr3 1333MHz RAM, a GTX275 and a 3.2GHz AMD Phenom Quad Core. This did not occur until the 4GB patch was applied. Do I need to backup my files and reinstall FPSC?

How do I "un-patch" the FPSC-MadEditor.exe? I tried deleting the EXE and reinstalling the 1.18 update but it still had to same problem.

@ Susysyay

Didnt you make a back up exe of the file you edit or add on to?
If so just replace it. Thats what I do before I do anything to my files.

(Also dont know if it can help but also check the properties and see if your running it on service pack 3)

And make sure thats FPSC is in Programs x86

Well the 4GB patching program says it makes a backup of the original EXE (check the website, it says at the bottom of the 1st paragraph.) So I need to figure out how to unpack the backup (because it's in some weird file format.) If worse comes to worse, I'll backup my files folder, and do a fresh install of FPSC, and replace all my files.

Or try to just install the update again. It will replace the .exe and you simply have to re-patch the FPSC-Game.exe...

Ok soooooo All you gots to do is get the back up file and rename it and delete the part that says back up ONLY THE PART THAT SAYS BACK UP.. and you will be fine then ust replace the file and you wil be good. you should do it outside of the folder tho like on your desktop when you rename it and just drag it in and your good man.

Make sure its not the manifest backup files the you use to replace..

The backups should say something around like FPSC-Game.exe.backup

I did try reinstalling 1.18 b7 (cause that one works best for me ATM) and like I said earlier, the problem still occured. When I installed it again though, I removed the bugged EXEs so the install would basically replace them with the new ones, and even so that didn't work. Maybe I'll try it again but I'll reapply to 4GB patch to just FPSC-game.exe. And to SOL, do you mean the weird files in the FPS-Creator folder that are called FPSC-Game.exe.backup? Or something similar? I'll try all the ideas until I get one that works. I'll get back to the forums soon.

Yes I do mean those. I did edit and say that on my last post.... Forgot to say edit tho.. Anyways yes make sure it says something like that. Don't use the files thats say FPSC-Game.exe.manifest.Backup
Thats different.

The files you should be use are the ones that say something like. FPSC-Game.exe.Backup and
FPSC-MapEditor.exe.Backup.

Like i said earlier just delete only the little part that says backup and nothing els and replace the other file with that. Make sure you do it out on the desktop when renaming it

I did exactly what you said SOL, but still, no dice. Same error everytime. Although, I did narrow it down that the MapEditor.EXE is the one causing the problem. I don't know what to do though

Well Then It has to be the HArdware part thats bugging your computer. The Editor isn't your issue then. If the FIle you replace are back to normal. I say check you drivers for error or updates. And Windows Updates stuff like that.

Ah...I don't know then, AFAIK the error is telling you your video card doesn't support 32bit.

Im gonna try 1.18 V9 to see if that helps. If I can just get the updated version to work, then I'm all set. I can drag in my backed up files and off I go. This is a real pain in the butt.

EDIT-Nope. 1.18 V9 doesnt help either. WHAT SHALL I DO!?! This is terrible.

@Susysyay, Does v1.17 work? The official release? Or, then v1.16? If it doesn't work for v1.17 then try v1.16. If that works then your graphics card doesn't work with the new shaders I would say.

@ Susysyay,
Sometimes when I mess around with the programs exe, ini, etc, a reinstall right over top won't actually fix the problems I caused. What I do in those cases is wipe fps creator completely off my computer (backing upp my files obviously) and running the installer gagain. Then I copy and paste my files back into the folder. Also I think that patch will always try to run that program at bit. Make sure that the patch software is uninstalled as well.

1.18 DID WORK PERFECTLY UNTIL THE PATCH WAS INSTALLED!!! My video card (Nvidia GTX275) is fine! I can play any game on my comp (Bad Company 2, Half Life 2, etc) no problem at all. The 4GB patch probably did something to the map editor exe. I know because when I double click nothing but the FPSC-MapEditor.exe, the error pops up again. But the weird part is that even though I replaced the MapEditor.exe 2-3 times already, the same problem keeps happening. And no, 1.17, 1.16, etc, don't work either

If you have not yet then I suggest, as raymondlee306 has done, a complete clean reinstall. I would take it one step further and carefully remove all instances of FPSC from windows registry. I would not patch the FPSC-game.exe to determine if it works first. Be sure and uninstall FPSC and then delete the FPSC folders. Also, no need to install any other version before you install v1.18 (whichever beta) unless it is v1.17.

If this doesn't work I haven't a clue.

BTW, I have had to do this quite a bit when I was just starting out with v1.03. However, now that I am not testing new versions anymore things have become more stable.

What version of FPSC. If v1.18 which beta?
How are your preferences set?
Has it worked before in a previous version? Which version?

What are your computer specs? RAM? Graphics card?

----------------------------------------------------------

What version of FPSC. If v1.18 which beta? ==> 1.18 beta 9.
How are your preferences set? ==>

Has it worked before in a previous version? Which version? ==> Unable to reproduce on any other version.
What are your computer specs? RAM? Graphics card? ==> 2GB RAM - NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT.

I compiled scifi-1.fpm so you can see the problem : http://e5fiz6.megadl.fr/

Thank you.

Has anyone tried out the nextlevel=. I had tried to creat a script to call it, but I can't find any information about it and I'm not sure even if it is possible in 118. I had read it somewhere in this thread and I can't find it for looking.

I had created a trigger zone and added my script.

;triggers

:state=0:nextlevel=1

I'm not sure what is needed after nextlevel=, but I have tried a couple of things without success.

nextlevel= is an action to set which level comes next once the current level is completed. i.e. nextlevel=3 sets the next level to be level 3 (assuming you had at least three levels within your game).

Looking at the source it is possible - but i have not tried it yet.

There are two conditions relating to this actions:
- "levelequal=X" - true when the current level is equal to X
- "levelnotequal=X" - true when the current level is not equal to X

You can only really test the nextlevel feature on a built game as the FPSC engine needs to navigate between levels.

@Ched80

You are a star!

Fantastic it works really well and I think will change some of my game designs now.

EDIT: I have tried 3 levels and it is not going to the level I had stated, but just going to the next level along. However on the last level it is moving me to the first level even if I had stated level 2 was to be selected. Not sure how to fix this.

Thanks

If you're confident that you've set the nextlevel= action up correctly I'd suggest posting this as an issue on the google code board.

I looked at the source and couldn't see anything obvious. I'm not sure if the nextlevel= action can be used in the general level *.fpi or within a trigger zone. I couldn't see any restriction in the source.

I'm guessing you've placed some trigger zone (or something similar) in L1 that states nextlevel=3?

I had used a trigger zone and placed a winzone beside it so that the player would trip my trigger zone first and then hit the winzone.

If only I could find where it was stated by Lee and see if there was more details. I'll keep searching.

After doing some research. It is a project Blue action from the looks of it. I will look in the script threads and see if there is example I can use to test this and see if it is working.

After building a game, or testing one, FPSC freezes and has to be killed from the task manager.

An update with the nextlevel action it does work and well. I I don't know a great deal about scripting, but I found a thread with the same problem for a fan fallout game.

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=180908&b=21

I just had to add two extra bits from my script:

:state=0,plrwithinzone=1:nextlevel=3,suspend

The only problem with the nextlevel is that is sometimes has problem carrying weapons from one level to another. I guess with the code coming from Project blue Lee and the team may not be interested in fixing it. Unless it is meant to carry weapons from one level to another.
