I'll take that as a compliment, however its best not to judge that wire-frame shot, im UV mapping it now, hopefully i can have it textured tomorrow

the screenshots are from within 3ds max, using a default DX9 HLSL shader.

Dude... your cow-dude is totally bogus, man...

Your guard is pretty sweet too...

[Disk scratch on the surfer accent]

However, I think the skin on the Tauren is somewhat rough in the wrong way. It looks a tad more like water ripples than hide. Just a thought, though it's eons above what I could possibly do.

The guard, I'm really looking forward to. I have no idea how to model certain medival models that I'm attemping to draw sketches of.

The normal map on the tauren looks...like you added the glass filter to the texture, may be the normal map, maybe the texture, but it still looks amazing

hmm, thanks for the crit people, that rippling (as well as being the skin wrinkles) is also the short fur which cows have, im not sure if that helps, but saying this, such fur doesn't have such specularity.

i might change it but without it it kind of looks...weird

well anyway, i UV mapped the guard, and things are looking promising, i haven't finished much of the texture, but at least this shows better than the wire-frame shot:

more progress tomorrow, cant pull another all nighter

the brown 'base' randomly all over the body fits well, so a lot of the armour, besides vital areas will be leather and chain-mail

edit:

im gonna try and aim for a summer release, things are going well, and with that extra holiday time, things could go great

I glad you are showing your models before you texture them. I find seeing a model without the texture on it makes me have something to shoot for and hope I can do this well.

Omg alright jon, i wont allow you to keep contributing to us indi dev's. you need a big break, by break i mean a real AAA company, its people like you who should be getting these game jobs, not those wannabe's who cant texture model and rig as good as you can, jon, i really want you to go out and make a portfolio, and just get a AAA job, not only so you'll get paid more, but so i can say "i know this guy who made this comericial game" the guard looks amazing, but all your work looks amazing, so its expected . Uhmm other than that, i just have to say, AMAZING! lol

I love your 'metal' textures Jon. You have a great hang of these right from the new shiny ones to dull rusty ones and even the matte chiseled ones.

the normal map can be generated from a high poly mesh or simply painted in photoshop along with the nvidia filter, the head was subdivided and sculpted, the rest of the body is merely painting in photoshop, not sourced from a high poly model

@ bloodeath 666

haha, thanks, given the time to really push out a variety of models for my portfolio (pretty much everything now is fantasy/medieval ) i will eventually try to apply for a job somewhere, my dream job is to work with bungie studios, but thats a long long way away, though when i asked about contract 3d work, their test seemed fairly simple.

Looks great, I love the anonymity of the face, it'll work well when multiple are on screen.

I also like that you didn't give him typical a typical "hero" physique with mammoth shoulders and what not, it fits the "ordinary grunt" style of this character.

I'll be creating variations of the face (and clothes) which will hopefully look really nice with the X10 instancing

one of the things im also going to try with civilians, so people can actually make a convincing town scene

Jon Fletcher, you are amazing. I'm considering asking you in the near future to model for my project a bit. I'm sure you do ask for pay for this kind of quality work, but just to make sure; would you require pay if I asked you to create models for my game?

Keep up the awesome work.

@ Xenocythe - The quality of the work answers your question for you. It would be a gross injustice if someone of his quality wasn't paid for his work

@ John Fletcher - Absolutely spiffing models. You seem to have a very gritty edge to all your models. I like the style. You will be in the industry in a big way I'm sure. Whats your animating skill like?

@ Xenocythe

thanks, we will have to see, although i appreciate paid work, time is very often limited

@ greenlig

i always develop myself further in all skills, including animating, my most recent example is my free Beretta Elite 2 weapon model, but even that is months old. But the animations I'll bee working with are simple enough, and i am confident they can be achieved

It looks amazing! Every model you have made seriously would not look out of place in oblivion or some other rpg thats relativly new and all of its models look really proffessional...
I only hope that when I click on the profile button below your most recent post, that I will be able to find some tutorials of yours in these forums!

I love it!

I'd just love to know how you got such detail in the wrinkled parts of fabrics and chain-mail. I know what normal mapping is, but that looks like the work of Z-Brush.

im actually working on getting these models into oblivion by the construction set, Ive learnt the basics of it, but things don't seem to be functioning right now. hopefully when i get this sorted I'll have some oblivion screens to show with a massive ogre running around a town

the cloth is actually created in photoshop, only the head was sculpted.

thanks, unfortunately there may not be another model for this pack for a while, as i have another vital project to work on TGC have been kind enough to allow me to model a new character for FPSC X10, technically being my first shipped title (if like the current FPSC)

Kwl when you finish getting em in oblivion be sure to upload the mod to planetelderscrolls so i can d/l

BTW if you want those guards as a new race; you have to segment them (Thats what I recall anyway). If the armour is actually part of the mesh; unarmoured will get there deffense up; instead of heavy armour which it should be. You should make them a normal body; and make the armour actual armour ingame. Then add a shop, then a clan, then quests and build from there. Then everyone will give ya a 10. I oblivion and Morrowind mod more than I use FPSC lol.

Good work Jon

well im not really creating a real mod (....yet...) im just trying to see what my models will look like positioned in the game, and see what it would be like to fight them , so i cant really upload it to that site (as the packs contents are going to be sold)

pretty much just for testing purposes, but in good time it would be really cool to create my own town and other aspects of the game.

still learning the damn program though

very very nice work. the texturing is very impressive. i cant do texturing at all and im very sketchy as far as animation goes but im a decent modeller.if you want it i have just finished a very nice looking sword. it is not textuered or animated but as far as the form goes i think it has a lot of potential so if you want it just post a mesage saying so. i will attach an image of it.

If I do buy the pack Jon (which I most probably will) could you send the .NIF files too? I just want to make a mod for personal use and won't release it. If i buy the pack anyway i would already have the models, but, hey it's up to you.

that is a nice model, and i think that with a good texture it could look great. of course, for the genuinity of the pack i should stick with my own work, thanks for the offer though

haha, thanks

i very well might, im not sure how the animations will work but you probably know what to do with the models from within the editor

Hey i think the guard's skin looks like his armour (dull metal).
i dunno, it may look better in game or if light was to shine directly on to his face, but its a bit monochrome-ish in that scene.

The sad fact is that i can read script, but i just cant write it.

this will most likely be fixed when i create the specular maps

I think the term "midget" is actually offensive and that they prefer to be called "little people" (cant remember where from, but meh)

i may make a gnome.

..

Anyway, back to business, i have finished my X10 model with only some minor tasks to finish and hopefully they will take it on, if so (or if not) i will show the finished model soon.

This means i can get back on track with this here thingy.

I am currently making the assassin, i will be going along the lines of the following, a screenshot of my Oblivion character.

but looking a little more like robes.

this sucks, the second female model im making (don't know why i haven't made more, i suppose with male characters and creatures you can slap on all sort of crazy and grotesque ideas) and its pretty much just a remake of the one i made ages ago, i need to start on some modern stuff

I'll have a wire-frame shot soon, half way there.
